Couple Chapters IV: Reed and Dax

~timeline: alternate universe~

~Dax: age 18~

       I hated road trips.

       I liked them now that I was finally able to sit in the passenger seat of the car without feeling like having a panic attack, but other drivers were completely horrible and stupid, so I hated being on the road with them.

       Especially when I had road rage, and I wasn't even the one driving.

       After flipping off some jackass who cut us off, Reed sighed. "Do you have to do that with everyone?" he asked.

       "Yes," I said. "He cut you off."

       "What are you talking about?" Reed asked. "I let him cut in front of me. You're the one assuming everyone is a horrible driver. You're the one swearing at everyone."

       "Can you blame me?" I asked. "Everyone is a fucking idiot."

       "You know, you didn't have to come," Reed said.

       "And what kind of boyfriend would I be if I didn't come to your horse show?" I asked.

       "A good one," Reed said. "That way I wouldn't have to listen to you swear at every single driver."

       "I wouldn't have to if they just learned how to drive."

       "I give up," Reed said. "I'm not talking to you for the rest of the drive."

       I shrugged. I knew it wouldn't be long before Reed talked to me again. He loved me too much to ignore me for a long time.

       After a few minutes of driving in silence, there was suddenly a loud pop, and following was the car bumping a bit, closer to my side. Reed pulled over to the side of the road and turned off the car before getting out to see what happened.

       I took off my seat belt so I could move in my seat to look out the window and at my boyfriend. "Please don't tell me one of the tires is flat," I said.

       Reed sighed. "That's exactly what happened, and I don't even have a spare tire."

       "Who doesn't keep a spare tire in their car?" I asked.

       "People who don't have enough room in their trunk because of all the horseback riding gear stored in there," Reed said, pulling his cell phone out of his pocket. "I'm going to call my brother so don't bother him."

       "How could I?" I asked. "You're the one that's going to be on the phone with him."

       "Yes, but I'm going to be putting him on speaker," Reed said as he waited for his brother to pick up the call since he already put it on speaker.

       Reed totally wanted me to bug his brother.

       "Hello?" Jonah answered.

       "Hey," Reed said. He was about to talk to his brother, but I not-so rudely interrupted him.

       "Hi, Jonah!" I called so he could hear me.

       "I told you not to bother him," Reed said to me.

       "Uh, rude, I'm just saying hi to my boyfriend's brother," I said. "Is that a crime?"

       Jonah chuckled. "Hi, Dax."

       "See? He laughed," I said. "He likes me, so stop being mean or I'm going to break up with you."

       Reed glared at me before turning his attention back to his phone. "So, we have a problem. I know you're not planning on leaving for another two hours or so, but is there any way you can leave a bit earlier? Like within the next few minutes?"

       "Why?" Jonah asked. 'Is everything okay?"

       "Yeah," Reed said. "I mean, kind of. One of the tires is flat and I don't have a spare. I was hoping you can bring one for me. I had to leave it in the garage because I didn't have enough room during the trip."

       "You do realize you can call the roadside assistance number, right?" Jonah asked.

       "And talk to a complete stranger on the phone?" Reed asked. "Even worse, let a complete stranger help me out? Besides, who knows how long it will take for them to arrive? If anything, it will be better waiting for you to show up."

       Jonah sighed. "Alright, fine. I'll leave as soon as I can. You better hope Linnea is ready to leave, though, otherwise you're going to have to wait longer."

       "Uh, Mom and Dad are leaving later too," Reed said. "Just tell Linnea that if she doesn't hurry up to go with you, she can catch a ride with them."

       "Bye, Reed," Jonah said before hanging up.

       "Well, that was rude," I said. "He didn't even say goodbye to me."

       "You think everything is rude," Reed said, putting his phone in his pocket before walking over, resting his arms across the window of the car, which was all the way opened. "So knowing Jonah, he isn't going to leave without Linnea. If she is ready right now, we'e got about half an hour before he shows up. What should we do while we wait?"

       "Well, there is something I would suggest but there aren't any showers here, so that's a no-go."

       "You know, I really hate you at times. If not all the time."

       "If you hate me so much, why don't you break up with me?"

       "Because there's this thing called sarcasm."

       "Then your sarcasm needs work."

       Reed just rolled his eyes before leaning down and pressing his lips on mine. When he pulled away, he gave me a small smile. "I love you. There, is that better?"

       "Much," I said. "And I love you too. And you are going to kick some serious ass at the horse show today. And afterwards to celebrate you winning, which we all know is going to happen, we can head back to the hotel an--"

      "Okay, I am going to stop you there," Reed said. "Thank you for being confident that I can win but if I do, we are going to celebrate with my family."

       "What about afterwards?"

       "Afterwards, I am going to take a long bath to relax after feeling stressed from being stuck with you all day," Reed said.

       "Still so rude to me," I said.

       "Thanks," Reed said. "I try."

idk why but i ship this so much??????? like i love daxadora so much but there's something so pure about reed and dax?????

so thank you to Lunagust for suggesting this and blessing me with one of the most beautiful ships ever. like there's something about reed and dax that just fit together so well i can't.

this is the last update for the day, but i will be continuing the couple chapters tomorrow (after a long nap after church because i like naps on sundays)
