I woke to the sun in my eyes and Birdeye prodding my side, I yawned and got up.
"Your on hunting patrol now!" She hissed, I knew she was following orders as deputy. I got up, cleaned my fur and padded out to Thislestar flicking her tail angrily.
"you lazy Tom," she hissed, I put my head down apologetically. We padded out of camp and into the forest, I saw a crow to my right so I stalked it. I hid in a bush, I pounced and killed the crow instantly before it could call a warning. I buried it when I saw something slithering towards Thislestar stalking not far away, I quickly pounced on the snake and ripped it in half. Thislestar killed the mouse and saw the snake in my jaws, she nodded her hazel eyes burning my soul.
"Good Shatteredfang now why are you so close to my stalking spot?" She asked.
"This snake was coming towards you Thislestar and your my leader, I protect you with my life," I said.
"I am grateful, I should have made you deputy instead of Birdeye, the old cat can't even catch a Vole right," Thislestar said, as she said it we heard a vole screech not far off and padded to see it was Birdeyes catch that made all the noise.
"Good going Birdeye you scared off all the prey!" I hissed, she flicked her tail angrily but got a scratch on her muzzle from Thislestar in return.
"He is right Birdeye your lucky I haven't killed you yet, that's the tenth time this week we go hungry," Thislestar said her voice almost a hiss, Birdeye ran back to camp with her prey. I grabbed my prey and padded back, Thislestar did the same. The clan didn't look surprised, I put my fresh kill on the pile.
"Let me guess Birdeye scared off all the prey again?" Scarletclaw said.
"Yup, for real I can't wait until she looses her teeth," I said annoyed there was only a vole, a mouse, a crow and a pigeon on the fresh kill pile.
"Yeah and leaf bare is only a moon away," Scarletclaw said flicking her tail, Birdeye padded up to the prey pile to grab the pigeon when Thislestar hissed stopping her on the spot.
"No prey for you, Shatteredfang you and Scarletclaw can share the pigeon, Birdeye what you can eat is that rotten mouse if your hungry," Thislestar said, Birdeye hissed at me and stormed off. I picked up the pigeon and me and Scarletclaw sat down and shared it, we were the best hunters in the clan apart from Hollywing who seemed to fill the fresh kill pile when she was on hunting patrols. But like every cat she needed sleep, Thislestar regretted making Birdeye deputy because ever since she did Birdeye kept Messing up. Thislestar padded over to us once we finished, I cleaned my muzzle.
"You two come with me and bring Birdeye," she said her voice suddenly happy, I knew she was going to do something that involved hurting. I flicked Birdeyes ear and she followed, we got to a clearing surrounded by trees beside the lake.
"What are we doing?" I asked.
"Hold Birdeye in place," Thislestar said.
"But....." I was cut off.
"NOW!" She spat, I grabbed Birdeyes shoulder while Scarletclaw grabbed the other.
"What's going on, why am I being held!?" Birdeye said her voice almost panicked.
"Bring her out into the water," Thislestar said, we dragged Birdeye further into the water keeping her standing.
"Shut up!" I hissed through a mouth full of her shoulder, Thislestar stood in front of us water dripping from her pelt.
"Birdeye since your old and weak, I have decided to choose a new deputy, old deputy's die, now since you scare off all the prey, you leave us hungry and leaf bare is a moon away, do you think my clan will be strong if it is hungry!" Thislestar spat.
"N-no," Birdeye said, Thislestars paw slashed over Birdeyes neck slitting her throat.
"Exactly now drop her and let her drown and run out of air she can barely move since she is loosing blood," Thislestar said, me and Scarletclaw dropped Birdeye in the water. We padded out of the water cleaning our fur and padding back to camp, Thislestar jumped onto high rock and called a meeting.
"All cats old enough to kill prey gather around to hear my words," she called, the clan gathered.
"What do you think she is gunna do?" Scarletclaw whispered.
"Probably pick a new deputy," I said before looking back at Thislestar.
"I must pick a new deputy, this deputy will be Shatteredfang, he has proven himself over and over again ever since his mother died and he became an apprentice, even though I hated his mother, he is a true warrior," Thislestar said, I nodded and the clan cheered, they soon went to their dens while I went to mine and curled up next to Scarletclaw and fell asleep.
