Spirit's POV

"Quick, run," Griffin said, already pushing her up. She didn't need to be told twice as she took off running, Griffin right beside her.

Spirit could hear the thundering footsteps of the herd of bison even though they were on snow. She didn't know where to go as they started running towards the mountain.

"Quick, up the mountain," Griffin yelled to her and she nodded. Once they reached the base, they started climbing up the mountain.

She knew that if they went right to where her thinking place was, they would get trapped once they reached the top. She looked to the left path which led up to more taller mountains. The path up there will certainly stop the herd from following them but it was a hard climb up. Not to mention that only a few wolves come back alive. She glanced at Griffin and their eyes met. He seemed to have followed her thoughts as well.

As they neared the path where they were about to divide, a voice whispered in her mind, Go left. She had no choice but to listen as she veered to the left, with Griffin following behind. They scrambled to climb up the mountain, the path getting harder and rockier until they finally reached a flat ledge. They sat there panting as they catch their breaths. Below, the bison were still running and she knew that it would be a while before all the bison had passed.

"That...was...awesome!" Griffin exclaimed, "Best fun I had in my entire life!"

Spirit looked at him with wide, shocked eyes, "You call that fun when we almost got trampled by a herd of bison? We wouldn't have escaped with just a sprained ankle!"

"If you haven't been chased by a bison, then you don't know what fun and adventure is," Griffin replied, "The life of a rogue, so free and dangerous. No rules to follow, just do what you want to do."

"You rogues are crazy," Spirit muttered.

"That's what Pack Wolves always say," Griffin said, "And i'm pretty sure they also call Marked Wolves crazy."

Spirit growled at him.

"If you live your life as a rogue, then you've actually lived," Griffin went on, "That's why rogues always stay rogues. No need to watch out or care for others. No need to follow stupid rules or bossy Alphas and Deltas. You only have yourself and adventure, going where the wind takes you. Exploring mountains, crossing rivers, being chased by Mountain Wolves or Wild Wolves. That is what you call life."

"And being heartless," Spirit growled, "A life of a Pack Wolf is an honor. You serve your Alphas and Deltas and earn the respect and honor of others. I would never swap it with a life as a heartless rogue who cares about no one but himself."

"So you call me heartless when I saved you from that black tiger," Griffin shot back, "I wonder why i'm still visiting my siblings then."

Spirit was silent. He had a good point there.

"And honor and respect?" Griffin went on, "That's no adventure. If you haven't climbed a mountain and I mean a real, tall, dangerous mountain, then you haven't lived yet."

Spirit thought back to the stampede. To be honest, she actually liked the feeling of slicing through the wind as she ran. She was taught that rogues always run because they're cowards. They climb mountains or leave the territory to hide. Now, she actually wanted to have a taste of a life as a rogue.

"Okay, how about this," Spirit said abd hoped that she wasn't going to regret this, "You show me all about your life as a rogue and I join you while I show you a life of a pack."

"I already know what goes on in a pack," Griffin replied flatly, "Hunting, eating, talking, sleeping, listening to Alphas and then the same thing everyday."

"I'll show you how I see a pack," Spirit insisted.

"And how are you going to do that?" Griffin asked, raising an eyebrow.

"I have my ways," Spirit replied, "So is it a deal or not?"

Griffin seemed to consider then he asked another question, "What about your pack?"

"I'll find a way to escape," Spirit shrugged, "I always do. So is it a deal?"

Griffin looked at her then nodded, "You got yourself a deal. Starting tomorrow night."

Conor's POV

"What do you mean she's not with you?" Jackson demanded

"She was with us," Star quickly replied, "But when we were going back, she said that she needed to check on something and she'll be back in a few minutes."

"So you left her?" Jackson growled.

The wolves were gathering around them, looking at them anxiously as they kept on fighting.

"Spirit can make her own choices," Conor defended, "Don't you trust her?"

"Have you forgotten who you're talking to?" Jackson yelled, "I am the Beta!"

"Jackson, enough," everyone quieted down as Desmon snapped, "Spirit is no pup. She is a grown wolf who can make her own choices. There is no reason for you to start worrying the pack about nonsense. This is not how Betas behave!"

"What's going on here?" Jackson whirled around and spotted Spirit enter the camp. Jackson quickly rushed to her side but Dex made it before him.

"Where have you been?" Dex demanded, "We've been worried sick."

"Like I said, she was only checking on something for a few minutes," Conor growled.

"Yes, that's right," Spirit quickly added. Jackson looked at her closely and sensed that she was hiding something. He shrugged it off for he knew Spirit would never lie.

"Sorry if i've worried the pack," Spirit went on, more quietly.

"No you haven't worried the pack," Desmond replied gently, "Jackson had just made the pack worry because of his own worries. Everyone get some rest. Jackson, I need to talk to you."

Wolves quickly went back to their caves as Jackson cast a worried look at Spirit before following Desmond. Spirit quickly padded towards Conor and Star.

"Thanks for covering up for me," Spirit whispered.

"Where have you been?" Star whispered back, fiercely.

Spirit looked down as if she was hiding something, "I promise i'll tell you guys tomorrow. If wolves catch us, they'll get suspicious."

They both nodded and walked towards the den. By the look of her, it seemed that she had just met another wolf.

Spirit, what have you gotten yourself into? Please vote, comment, and maybe a follow? Stay tuned for the next chapter!
