Chapter Ten

he can't be dead

3rd person pov

kamari sat in her room as she stared at the wall yet again. after everything that had happened, she didn't feel numb but tired. she had lost Donna, Donna was her mentor, not her idol but someone who she could go to when things got hard. when the world got too dark, and when everything hurt more than it should.

she had tried calling jason at least 20 times and every time he ignored her, he acted like she didn't exist, she was a phantom to him and she understood why but that didn't hurt her any less. it didn't hurt her any less knowing that he wanted to forget her and act like she didn't exist.

"Kam, you might want to see this" she heard and she walked out of her room and to the living room. she hadn't gone on the mission with the others, she wasn't ready to yet. she wasn't ready to be out in public as a moonflower. she walked into the living room and looked at the tv.

she couldn't believe what she was hearing or seeing. she didn't want to believe it,

"Mari" she turned and she saw dick standing there in the doorway. he still had his Nightwing gear on and she shook her head

"it's not true, it can't be true," she said and he walked forward as she fell to her knees and he hugged her tightly

"he can't be dead" she cried and he ran his hand up and down her back

"he's gone kid, Jason's dead," he said and she sobbed into his chest as she felt a burning in her and it wasn't sadness. it was anger, she knew that jason had done this to himself. she knew that he left himself to get hurt because all he ever wanted to do was prove himself. to her, to dick, to Bruce, to the Titans. all jason ever wanted was approval but now he couldn't because he was gone and he wasn't going to come back.

"I'm going home, do you want to come with me?" he asked and she shook her head as she looked around the house. everything reminded her of jason and it all hurt too much. she should've been there, she could've saved him and she knew that.

"call me if you need me," he said and he let her go. he went and got himself some clothes before he left the apartment and she watched. she didn't want to stay there. the next morning, when she woke up, she walked out to see Gar sitting with Conner as kory told them the news

"so the Joker just killed him?" gar asked

"mhm. sounds like jason went after him the same way he went after Deathstroke. he was alone and unprepared. I'm so angry" Kory said and at first, kamari agreed until Kory continued to speak

"at the joker?" gar asked

"no, at jason. he never learned, when he left the Titans to go to Gotham, he was alone and angry and I get that. dick was hoping that he would clear things up with Bruce but he didn't. he clearly just kept making the same mistakes over and over again and it finally got him killed. jason never evolved, he never got grew past his own worst instincts. don't let that happen to you" Kory said and kamari stepped forward

"didn't that happen to you? you let yourself never learn and you want to stand here all high and mighty and talk shit about a dead person" kamari said and Kory stared

"how much of that did you hear?" Kory asked and kamari scoffed

"Does that matter? god, Kory, you act like you're the only one who gets to be hurt. I lost my fucking boyfriend, when he went after Deathstroke it wasn't alone and he wasn't unprepared, he had me and Gar. we didn't know Deathstroke was there because we didn't go after Deathstroke, we went after Dr.light but you must be forgetting that" she said and Kory stared. she had never seen kamari so angry. I guess she could now see her mother in her

"jason wanted to prove himself to people because you all looked down on him. you all made him feel useless and shitty and like he didn't exist. you made him feel like that, ya know that day when you all blamed him, he went up to the roof to kill himself and when he came back, none of you apologized, fucking no one. jason didn't make mistakes, he did the things that you wouldn't do because you were too fucking afraid so don't you dare stand there and give them some sort of advice when you have none to give" she stated. the vines had begun to spread around her and up her arms. she didn't seem to care, no she ignored them and acted like this wasn't happening.

"mars," gar said and she brought her vines in as she walked away from them. gar stared at her, he knew that kamari would never let her anger take over but at that moment she didn't care. she walked back to her room and looked around again. she didn't want to go home, she didn't want to go back to gotham but she needed too. she needed to get out of there

"take me home vines" she told them and they led her out of the tower and back to gotham. she let them bring her back to ivys and when she walked in, there ivy stood

"come here baby" ivy said and she wrapped her arms around her daughter as she hugged her and let kamari cry as hard as she needed to

"howd you know?" she asked and ivy sighed

"I'm your mother kam, i always know" she said and kamari hugged her with a sad smile on her face. she had missed her mother more then anything but she would miss the titans just as much.

as least she was home now.

right?
