" Biology is the least of what makes someone a mother."

- Oprah Winfrey

(Rouen, France: 12:30 am)

After her another failure in the City of Lights, Elder Carol Danvers returned to the mansion and brought a crate of wine from the Kree-Lizard warehouse where she had taken them. The residents looked at her with a concern which they noticed her son had disappeared two months from the time they had left. Dr. Jusis Vandark and Bladeus both exchanged glances and sadly sighed for they had not seen their tall hooded friend. The other friends like Tahu and Michelle Hellfire, Allen Stroud, Karena Lesproux, Gladius and Aqune Fernal wanted to ask questions of what had transpired in the trip to Paris. Carol refused to answer which she ignored all of them and headed to the other room on the second floor. She instantly sat down and opened her first bottle of wine after taking a glass to pour it.

Those misfortunes that happened in days to months had made her more frustrated and miserable which she just stared at the wall and drank her glass. Remembering the times when her boy, Amnon and then her new friend, Gourai had abducted, she clenched her left fist and emitted a spark from her light soul which she wanted to fight back. It took hours for her to reflect and drink further, until someone had seen her. Gladius and his wife stood at the doorway when they got concerned in their friend's binge drinking.

" Carol what the heck are you doing?! " the purple haired lady raised her voice in shock. " I thought you have stopped drinking?! "

" Why Aqune? I can't break the habit anymore, " the elderly half-Kree angrily replied while holding her wine glass. " I failed once again! "

" Carol, we understood of your failure, but that doesn't mean, you're giving up and sulking! "

" Why don't you two just leave me alone?! You don't understand I'm a total failure! I let your country into ruins. Then, Amnon got abducted! Now, Gourai! Why are you bothering me?! "

" Because we want to help you, " Gladius sternly replied.

" Help?! Really?! " she raised her voice and stood up from her seat. " You guys have helped me before when we had fought those damned creeps in Remnant! Then, I saw your president dying then one of your people found me! Now, you just asked me to leave along with Methu-Selah after all the trouble had gone! "

" Carol, we have already forgiven you for that, " he answered and sighed " Look, we totally understood how terrible it was to see our child in peril. Tizona almost died at an encounter in Alaska some decades ago, but he ended up crippled. Solaris was taken by the same evil legion. We still do not know where she is now. I know you will find your son, Svet or whatever his name you have given to him. "

" Do you even think I could ever find him? After all what happened?! "

Carol instantly burst into tears as Gladius and Aqune felt sorry in seeing her as they approached and hugged her. They realized how painful to experience that kind of tragedy to a family member. Somehow, it took time for them to pacify the half-Kree woman. Suddenly, the older paranormal scientist entered the room and joined them.

" Ms. Danvers, " Vandark calmly spoke. " I'm sorry for what happened to Amnon. Bladeus and I talked earlier which we were both wondering what went wrong in your trip. "

" He's gone, Jusis, " she said and rubbed her eyes with her red sash. " Those evil men took him away two months ago. It's the same thing had happened to my friend, Gourai. "

" If only we could help you sooner, " he sighed.

" Jusis, sometimes bad things happen, " the long haired mutant added. " Even in the darkest times, we have to find a way to overcome all of these. "

" I see now, Mr. Fernal, but I'm thinking of a search and rescue to find the boy. "

" Yes, that would be better, " Aqune nodded. " Carol has to reunite with her son. He needs her in times like these. "

" Can you do that? " Carol doubtfully asked.

" I have some communications equipment in my room where I could talk to the other members of the Rebel Forces, " Vandark responded. " It will take time for me to report everything to all of you. "

" Thank you, Jusis. "

" You're welcome, ma'am. "

Carol finished drinking her last glass of red wine. Vandark and the Fernal spouses exchanged glances which they wanted her to stop this deadly habit, but she couldn't help it. Then, she headed to her son's room and lied down on the bed. Waiting for her to fall asleep, Carol silently wept and hugged her son's pillow and blanket. She missed those days and nights when she was able to take care of him and learning more about him through his stories. Love and motherhood were the keys which she had to raise a peculiar boy like him, no matter if she had adopted him aside from healing herself. She was anxious if Amnon would not meet his father anywhere else in this problematic planet. The Project Marvel from the MTF was the only way to bring the Kree-Lizard hybrid's second life. Thinking and looking at the window, the elderly half-Kree woman felt helpless and hopeless which she couldn't do anything to save her son. She bitterly wept and remained sleepless in the entire wee hours of the morning.

A week had passed. The members of the Rebel Forces in this mansion had a meeting which they were preparing for the search and rescue for the boy. Carol was somehow interested, but a spark of loneliness had occurred in her mind. She entered the room when the meeting was over. Dr. Vandark and Gladius were the first ones had left as the others followed.

" Got any news from him? " she asked.

" No, " Gladius instantly spoke. " Commander Bav-Tek and his men had done some efforts finding him Russia along with Smolder's faction at Star City. Still, they couldn't find him. "

" Even in searching in every European nation, " Vandark added. " We have no positive results where Amnon is right now. "

" I see, " Carol sadly sighed. " I guess this search and rescue is pointless after all. I'm expecting he could be dead..."

" Carol, are you giving up in finding your son?! " Michelle exclaimed her voice and held her friend's shoulders. " What if he's here with us right now? How would he feel to hear it from you?! "

" Michelle, I had enough of this, " she sternly spoke. " Amnon, the one whom you called Svet is gone! There's no way to find him! "

" No, you're wrong! " the ant woman replied. " You're one of the most powerful women I know! You as a mother must find a way to search and reunite with him. Carol, he needs you, because you're the only one whom he has been looking after you. He loves you so much, even you adopted him or not! "

The elderly half-Kree woman wept as the ant woman hugged her. At this moment, she was very emotional for her. She wanted to fight back and save him. Michelle understood how her friend felt. Her husband, Tahu waited for them to pacify and speak-up and thought of something.

" Ladies..." the wasp man broke his silence and turned to them. " I remembered what I have said to Svet before. "

" What do you mean? " Carol asked.

" There's a slave den in New York City, " he continued. " Most of the abductees are stationed there for tourney and labor camp. "

" I think Svet can't return here alive, " Michelle warned.

" Well, that could be one, but our daughter Mai lives in Brooklyn where she raids the prostitution den in Bronx. "

" Where in New York City? " the half-Kree asked.

" Manhattan, " the couple replied in unison.

Carol's mind caught an attention to the place which she remembered the first day of invasion. Pondering further, she would be in big trouble if she proceeded there. But for the sake of Amnon-Selah's rescue, she had to do it as her maternal instincts began to rise, ignoring the possible danger or misfortune. This time, she was being challenged to start with and how was she able to retrieve him.

" Guys, I'm willing to do it. " she replied. " I just need my son back to me. "
