Once Danny had calmed down dinner past with few mishaps besides a few stray ecto rays back and forth and the occasional jab. He had apologized for his bizarre reaction to the gauntlets and claimed it was because he had seen something similar in a movie, which didn't have a happy ending. It was fun to see the millionaire squirm. The teen had been up through the night kept up, not by ghosts, but by fear. He wasn't sure exactly what he was afraid of yet. The invention, recent developments that had him looking closer to his evil self, or Vlad. What was he up to? Danny didn't know when he had fallen asleep, but it certainly wasn't at any reasonable time. It wasn't until he felt the rays of the sun warm his cheek that he woke up. "Ughh! No ghosts and I still don't get a good night's sleep." Danny grumbled. He grabbed his purple backpack and changed as he glanced at the clock. "No! I'm gonna be late!" Danny needed to get to school on time. He had so many tardys and unexcused absences he could right a book. Of course he couldn't tell them he wanted to be there, but had to save the city from rampaging ghosts. Not exactly a school friendly excuse.

Danny suddenly something weird happen to his body. He felt as if he became nothing. He was everywhere and nowhere at the same time. 'What's going on?' Just as unexpectedly as the sensation began, it ended. Danny took a minute to compose himself and figure out what had just happened. It was then he noticed his surroundings. He saw an empty hallway full of green rusted lockers. "I'm at school?"  He was dumbstruck as to how he got there. It was then realization hit him. "Teleportation, sweet!" As far as new powers went this one was a nice and pretty awesome surprise. Just as he shouted the tardy bell rang. "And not so sweet." Danny deadpanned.

As Danny entered Lancer's class he saw Sam and Tucker. The pair were in there usual seats, with an empty desk in the middle for Danny. "Mr.Fenton," Lancer began. "I hope you have an explanation for being tardy, once again to my class." The black haired boy hung his head. "I overslept Mr.Lancer. I'm sorry, but I really do want to be here on time." The teacher took a breath through his nose. "There is a difference between wanting and doing Mr.Fenton, though I do appreciate you do not intentionally skip my class. Now go take your seat." As Danny passed the jocks to get to his desk a paper football hit him on the head. Danny unwrinkled the paper and read the sloppy handwriting.                                                                                                                 Fenturd, meet me after school on the football field today, Or ELSE!                -DASH                                                                                                    As he took his seat he glanced at Sam and Tucker. They looked anxious for some reason unknown to Danny. He took out a piece of paper.                                                                                                                                 Why do you two look so worried? -D                                                                                      Danny passed the note to Sam. As she read the goth shook her head and gave Danny an incredulous look. She then passed the paper to Tucker. After writing something himself, the techno-geek passed the paper to Danny.                                                      We were worried about you, clueless idiot! Also you never did explain why you called last night.                -S                                      Yeah man. With all that's going on, we know it's tough on you. Was it ghosts that made you late? And what was up with that phone call with Sam?             -TF                                                     Danny glanced at the messages and scribbled a quick one.                I'll explain everything later.  -D

As Lancer droned on about The Great Gatsby and color symbolism Danny had trouble keeping his eyes open. 'Don't fall asleep!' the teen commanded himself. He really did like the class. He would probably read the books if he had time. 'If only...' The halfa thought wistfully. The desire to sleep quickly became too much for Danny. 'Maybe just a minute of closing my eyes.'

"Mr. Fenton, there is no nap time in 10th grade!" Danny heard the usually quiet voice of Mr. Lancer shout. Danny abruptly sat up and opened his bleary eyes. "I'm so sorry Mr.Lancer. It was an accident." The English teacher spoke softly. "Mr.Fenton, come and see me after class." Danny nodded in reponse. The class dragged on like the ghost zone. The halfa was happy to see it come to an end. "Are you coming Danny?" Sam and Tucker started walking to the door.  "Go on guys. I have to talk to Lancer." The pair nodded and walked off. For some reason Danny felt fear at the thought of talking to the teacher. 'You fight ghosts on a daily basis and your scared of your teacher? He's not going to try to kill you. At least in the physical sense. Psychologically, that may be another story.'

Danny walked up to Lancer, who was at his desk grading papers. "Mr.Fenton, sit down." The teen complied and fiddled with his hands. "Now Danny, there's something I've noticed about you." Danny looked up surprised at hearing Lancer call him by his first name. " I've looked back at your grades from the beginning of ninth grade." He pulled out a grade book from the desk. "Look here." Lancer pointed to Danny's grade at the very beginning of that year. The year which had changed everything. Every grade was either an A ,or B. Danny couldn't remember the last time he had gotten an A on something. "Now look here." The teacher pointed to Danny's later grades. C's at best, F at the worst. All of them, of course after the accident. "Something happened that year Danny. You showed such promise in the beginning. I believe you still have so much potential. A teacher can only do so much for a student without knowing the situation though." Danny smiled bitterly. He appreciated it. He really did, but there was no way he could tell Lancer the truth.

"There's nothing to tell." Danny replied, telling Lancer the same thing he had told his parents. He was sure Lancer knew he was lying, but what could he say. "My sister's the smart one. My parent's are the ghost hunters. There's nothing special about me." Danny looked downcast. 'It is true sort of. Without these powers I'd be nothing.' "Mr.Fenton, do not underestimate yourself. We each have a gift and a calling. Mine was to teach and help give kids like you an extra push. You will find yours soon enough. You may go now Mr.Fenton." As the door closed Mr.Lancer whispered, "Oh Danny. There's something going on and I will find it out."

         Time Skip

"So your telling me you can be at a place in the blink of an eye?" Tucker asked in awe, after Danny had explained his newest power up. "How far can you travel man? We could be in Paris, with Parisian girls, no airfare, no passports necessary!" Danny laughed while Sam was fuming. "Slow down Tucker! First of all you are being very stereotypical and demeaning to all women, not just Parisian girls. Second of all we don't know anything about this power. Danny's had it for what? 2 hours and only used it once! And you expect him to bring you to Paris?" Tucker shrugged. "Not right now, of course. I'm just stating the wonderful uses for this particular ability once he gains control." In the middle of the pair's usual bickering Danny's ghost sense went off. "Guys?" The halfa interrupted. "WHAT?!" Sam and Tucker shouted still in heated debate. "There's a ghost outside. You can do debate club later." The trio, aka Team Phantom as they now called themselves ran through the double doors leading to the front of the school. "I'm goin' ghost!" Danny shouted his signature battle cry as he got into a fighting stance.

The now white haired teen with  neon green eyes searched for the ghost who had set off his ghost sense. Danny heard a voice from behind him. "Hey Dipstick." The ghost boy turned around to face the flaming haired rock star. He smirked as he pushed himself to the air. "Hey! Long time no see. What's your name again? I must have forgotten. Is it Ember McLame?" Ember growled at the jab. "Your not very original. Your little girlfriend's used that before." "She's not my girlfriend!" Danny protested. He searched the ground for Tucker and Sam. 'Where'd they go?' The ghostly teen wondered.

Ember than began to fly off. "Oh no Ms.One hit wonder." Danny shouted. He caught her boot. "What are you up to?" Now it was Ember's turn to smirk. "There are big thing's coming babypop. Things bigger than you or me, but in the meantime, I'm gonna make sure no one stops them." "Yeah, well as long as I'm here nothings going to happen."Danny wondered what these plans could be. "Then we'll just have to get you out of the picture." She played a riff on her guitar setting it to the skull mode. Danny then shot a strong ectoblast and the two energies were at a standstill neither giving in.

The two continued to struggle. Ember kept playing as Danny, with his teeth clenched, strained to keep up the ecto-blasts. The ghost boy abruptly felt some strength return. "The song to powerful for ya yet?" The rocker taunted. "No actually I have one of my own." Danny retorted as he began to form a sphere with the energy. "I came in like a wrecking ball!!!" He flung the ecto-energy sphere at Ember, which knocked her to the ground. "She's gonna be really mad now.' Ember rose burning with rage, hair aflame. "I gotta admit dipstick. You've gotten stronger, but even you've gotta face the music sometime." As she said this she turned the knob of her guitar on a setting unfamiliar to Danny. "What are you..." Danny was cut off as Ember's music blasted toward him.

Danny was still in the air, although a bit dazed. "Where'd she go?" He searched for Ember with no luck. He found a CD on the ground instead, with a note. Take the time to actually listen to the whole song dipstick and you'll understand. -Ember                               "What's with her being all mysterious, and what was it she did to me?" Danny knew firsthand what Ember's attacks could do. He checked to see if he looked any different. He didn't feel like anything was out of place. His mind felt clear as ever."Everything seems fine." Perplexed the ghostly teen held the CD and was about to take off until he saw Sam and Tucker. "Guys where were you?" Danny then noticed the boy beside them. "We were making sure no one got hurt. We have someone here who wants to meet you." A tiny light haired figure popped out from behind the two shyly. Sam and Tucker left the boy and ghost. "Hi Mr. Phantom. My moma and me wanted to thank you for saving us from the ghost. " Danny smiled at the timid boy. "Hi. What's your name?" "Samuel, but I prefer Sam." At this The halfa couldn't help, but laugh. "My friend who brought you over here is named Sam too." The little boy looked puzzled. "A girl can't be named Sam!" "Actually they can. It's short for Samantha. She prefers Sam like you do." Danny then noticed a rocket ship on the boy's shirt. "Do you like space Sam?" The boy shook his head exuberantly.   "Yes! I want to be an astronaut." The boy said it with so much joy. Sam reminded him of himself when he was little. "You wanna know a secret?" Danny whispered to the boy. "I wanted to be an astronaut when I was your age too." Sam's eye's widened. "Really?" Danny nodded. "What happened?" Danny didn't know what to say. "I guess I found something more important. Protecting kids like you from some of the bad ghosts." The boy looked down. "Mr. Phantom, do you think I could be a hero like you someday? I don't have any powers like you" Danny's gaze softened and he went down to eye level with the boy. "You don't need them Sam. Anyone can be a hero. It's not about powers. It's about doing what's right, and you don't have to call me Mr. Phantom. I go by Danny." Sam hugged the ghost boy tight. Danny was taken aback by the boy's affection. "Thanks Danny." The boy murmered as the halfa ruffled his hair. "Your welcome Sam." He then pretended to be stern. "Alright you better get back to your parents now." As Sam sighed and waved goodbye Danny couldn't help but miss the time when he had been so innocent. 'I hope things go better for you Sam.'

Back at school, Danny sat with Sam and Tucker in the computer lab. "So she gave you a CD with her song?" Sam asked confused. "And she said you'd understand after you listened to it?" Tucker continued. "Yeah. I'm just as confused about as you two." Danny sighed. The CD was in the hardrive. "Let's just get this over with!" Tucker whined. "I missed my 1:00 feeding. If I don't get food soon I may starve! Owwww! Sam why must you always be so violent?" The boy shouted from the goth's pinch.  "Why must you be such a drama queen?" "I believe it's drama king." The techno geek argued. "Nope Queen." "It's playing guys. Here listen." Danny turned the volume up to the familiar tune. "There better not be any tricks." He muttered as he clicked play.

The full song told more of a story than just the chorus. It haunted Danny and his friends. "Wow, I never knew." Tucker said solemnly. "Yeah. She had a pretty hard love life." Sam conceded, feeling a little sympathetic toward Ember. Danny contemplated the song. "Somehow I don't think that's it. Ember wouldn't give us that just so we would feel pity for her. There has to be something else." Tucker glanced at the computer. "That's all there is of the video dude." The door to the lab opened and Danny closed the tab and took out the CD. "Come on guys. It's almost time to go anyway." "We'll figure it out Danny." Sam encouraged. "I hope so Sam. I sure hope so." As the trio stood up a sticky note fell from the cover.
