Claudius has always been interested in the arts, most of them just to view and listen, but he does take interest in joining painters and such. He's been interested in leading the life of an artist instead, but he's a prince. He knows he can't, and doesn't argue with that fact. He simply uses painting and drawing as a hobby, he fits well in the court life anyway. He knows the types of things others will do to gain or keep their power, and is willing and able to do some of those things himself if needed. He won't go out of his way for it though.
Claude is a caring man though, and can be rather charming when he needs or wants. There is only one who really has his eye, but he understands how nobles work, and he can't suddenly stop the way he acts to the public when in a secret relationship.
He's a sly and intricate man, who knows how to keep a secret well hidden.
