Once upon a time there once was a women named Kazuna. She was one of the workers in Chernobyl's power plant along with her sister Annabell and her best friend Jennifer. These three had worked within the control room of reactor number 4. They all had been working at the plant for some time now and were all trained experts when it came to running the place and keeping everything in order including the nuclear reactors themselves. The three had decided to start working the night shift about 3 weeks ago and quickly rose to the top of the ranks for the night shift workers.

On September 26th, 1985 at about 5 a.m. in the morning when there was to be a scheduled stress test for the fourth reactor the three were immediately put in charge to watch over the stress test and see to it that things went well. When the stress test began the workers had "followed" the plans almost "perfectly" but that was when things started to go wrong. This is where our tale begins.

Reactor number 4 had started to over heat and build up pressure. Kazuna and the others had to do something quickly or else the reactor would have a meltdown due to the over heating of the core. Kazuna rushed to make sure the reactor stayed online and that it's safety systems were fully operational. They were.

If Kazuna didn't do something soon the reactor would go into the nuclear meltdown phase and they would loose all control! Kazuna leapt into action. She ordered the workers to find a way to activate the cooling system and cool down the core and that once the core was cooled enough put in the rest of the control rods to slow the reaction within the core and finnaly to find a way to release the pressure build up within the core.

The workers did as they were told and the reactor began to go back to normal. The radiation levels and the pressure levels had returned to normal with the core. The stress test was put to an end and Kazuna had ordered one of the workers to phone in the boss and tell him to call down to the group of expert workers and to call someone from the International atomic energy agency to come down so they could discuss the design flaws of the reactor. The worker did as told. Within the next hour the team of experts and someone from the "I.A.E.A" (International atomic energy agency) had checked into the control room of reactor number 4. Kazuna Called over to her best friend and elder sister and told them that one of them was to watch over the workers while one was to come with her. Her best friend decided to stay behind. With that the two sisters' entered a meeting room.

"Why have you brought me here to talk about the reactor's design flaws?" "There aren't any within this reactor." The agent tried to persuade.

"Oh yes there is!" "Like the fact that with the reactor's minimalist design we could easily loose control over the water pressure and that there is a much higher chance for a critical meltdown to happen!" Kazuna explained.

"My sister is right." Due to the minamalist design of the reactor we could also loose control of the reactor itself due to the fact that if the power were to drop below 1,000 W."

"The reactor would become very unstable due to the xenon 135."

"Thus due to more reactivity within the core at low power levels and due to the delay of control rods it could cause neutron poisoning." Kazuna's sister explained.

"Also due to the reactors' rather high positive void coefficient we could also loose control."
"And due to the fact that the control rods are manually activated and that the "SCRAM" program takes about 20 seconds to activate and 30 to actually have any effect what so ever this makes the reactor considerably harder to control." "Especially at low power levels." Kazuna explained rather furiously.

"We need to fix these flaws so that it becomes less likely to go into a nuclear meltdown and so that the reactor is easier to control at low power levels!" Kazuna all but screamed.

"Again, hate to break it to you but my sister is completely right." "We cannot continue to work in such unsafe conditions and we cannot put the populace at risk either." "Think of the Children that shall suffer if we have a meltdown." "Besides if there happens to be a nuclear meltdown at one of Ukranie's and Russia's best power stations' think of what kind of press we would be getting!" "Just think about it, everyone around the world, whether you like it or not will know that we failed to stop it from even happening in the first place." Now you wouldn't want that would you?"

Kazuna and her sister grinned at their explainations.

The executive paused for a moment before saying; "(sigh)...This is all true but I don't think there is anything I can do about it except for decommission the reactor."

"WHAT?!!!" The two sisters' screamed.

"You can't do that!" "Most of Russia and Ukraine depend on reactor number 4 to provide power!"

"Yeah!" "If you were to decommission the reactor almost all of Russia and Ukraine would loose most of their power!" "All in all we all depend on the power that's generated by reactor number 4 so that we could all live happily and comfortably!"

"Besides reactor number 4 helps keep the other reactors in check and stable!"

The executive sighed at the two sisters' behavior.

"I know." "I mean you guys have been approved for the needed upgrades that need to be made."

The executive paused for a moment to catch his breath.

" But without approval from your boss we cannot give you the very much needed upgrades for your reactor number 4." Explained the executive.

"Huh?" "Well why didn't you say so sooner?!" "I can call him up now and he can approve!"

"Hmm, ok, do so."

"I will!"

With that Kazuna walked over to the phone and dialed the bosses' number.

About a minute later she heard his voice answer.

"Hello?"

"Hello sir, sorry to bother you but we have the executive from the International atomic energy agency here and he says we have been approved for upgrades that needed to be done to reactor number 4."

"Oh no it's quite alright Kazuna." "Anyways what type of upgrades shall our reactor number 4 be given if you don't mind me asking?"

"Oh no, not at all sir."

"Anyways I'll pass the phone over to him and let him explain the upgrades."

"Ok."

With that Kazuna picked up the phone and set it down on the table and handed the phone over to the executive.

He took the phone gently from Kazuna's hand and started to talk;

"Hello sir, my name is Austin." "I am from the International atomic energy agency." "It seems that you have been approved for the needed upgrades that needed to be done to reactor number 4."
The executive introduced.

"Ah yes,my name is Lucas, nice to meet you." "Now what where we going to talk about?" Lucas questioned.

"We were going to talk about the upgrades for your reactor number 4, sir."

"Ah yes, upgrades."
Lucas cleared his voice before he spoke; "I would like to know what the types of upgrades that are going to be done on reactor number 4." "Care to explain what they are young man?" Lucas asked kindly.

"Ah, yes, the types of upgrades that are going to be done are, lengthening of the control rods, increased speed and reaction time of the the "SCRAM" program..."

"Let's see...What else?..."

"Umm...Oh yes, decrease in the dangerously high positive void coefficient, faster reaction time for the control rods, and a way to make the reactor safer to operate at power levels lower than 1,000W."

"I think that's it for all of the upgrades." Explained the executive carefully.

"Ah, ok, I see..." "Well then, I approve of these upgrades." Said Lucas.

"Alright, thank you."

"Bye Austin, and thank you for the information."

"Your welcome sir." "Good bye."

With that Austin gave the phone back to Kazuna and went to check off a check list he had in front of him.

"Sir?"

"Yes, I approve of the upgrades Kazuna."

"Yes!" "Thank you sir!"

"Your welcome Kazuna." "Ya know if you three weren't my most trusted workers and weren't my right hand, my left hand, and my middle hand workers I never would have trusted you to make such decision's." Said Lucas somewhat seriously.

"Haha, we know that sir." "Anyways let me finish up here and then get back to work with my sister and my best friend."

"Haha, alright Kazuna...Be careful." "Good bye."

"Ha, goodbye sir."

With Kazuna finishing up the conversation she hung up the phone and put it back on the stand in which it first came from.

"Anyways with the upgrades approved they should be installed within the next year or so." "So until then try to keep the reactor stable and try your very damnedest to try and not recreate these conditions or else you guys might not be so lucky next time." Warned Austin.

"Any who, I think it's about time I got back."

"Yeah, it was nice talking to you Austin." "And thank you for everything."

The two girls said as they got up.

"Your very welcome."

With that the two girls and Austin walked out of the room and went back to their respective places.

Once Kazuna and her sister had made it back to control room number 4 they explained the situation to everyone of the workers. They also warned that if they were to recreate the situation again that they might just cause a nuclear meltdown.

The workers all nodded their heads in understanding and now knew if they did something as stupid as that ever again then they would put everyone in danger and that catastrophe would inevitable.

After the sisters were done talking the workers and themselves got back to work. Only Kazuna remained working on something else other than keeping the reactor stable.

She was working on plans to be able to make sure that the group of junior workers knew what they were doing and to be able to keep everything in smooth working order. In the end she came up with this; that at least 3 expert workers or workers whom were more experienced should work the night shift with the junior workers to make sure that everything ran as smoothly as possible.

Once she was satisfied with her plans she brought them upon the safety counselor and Lucas. They both approved of her plans. She was happy with that and quickly made her way back to reactor number 4's control room to explain what was to happen to make sure everything went accordingly.

Kazuna began by clearing her throat and directing all the workers attention towards her. Then she spoke;

"Ehem, I would like to make an announcement." "I have come up with a way to make sure everything goes accordingly and smoothly!" "The boss and the safety concerns have approved of my plans for this!" "At least 3 experienced workers shall be working the night shift with the more junior team of workers to ensure nothing goes wrong!" "This is in effect starting tonight!" Announced Kazuna.

The workers all nodded their heads in understanding and went back to work.

By the time Kazuna was done talking and had finally gone back to work on keeping the reactor stable it was already 6:30 a.m. meaning that her shift was to end in a half an hour.

Kazuna sighed at this.

"(Sigh)...Guess there's nothing I can really do about it." "I might as well just work the remainder of my shift and then go home with Annabell and Jenny and get some rest and maybe do some grocery shopping later on." Kazuna said to herself.

With that Kazuna got back to work for the remainder of her shift and once her sister and her best friend was down with their shift along withe her own shift she drove to herself, Annabell and Jennifer to her house and once they got there they cleaned themselves up and then fell asleep in respective places such as the couch or their own beds.

"Wonder what the next few months will bring?" "Haha better to not worry about that now."

And finally Kazuna closed her eyes and slept along with her sister and best friend.
