Alone in her apartment, Gidget flopped down on her bad. She was exhausted. Tonight was definitely a shower night. It might help with her tired muscles. Plus, she wanted to get her paws a little bit more clean. Even though the construction workers had gotten a hose, it didn't get all of the cement off. Heading into the bathroom, she attempted to turn on the water.

Nothing happened.

"Water is going to be off until next week!" the next door neighbor Buddy called. A moment later, his roommate Mel added, "And they're turning the electricity off tomorrow!"

"Great..." Gidget muttered, recalling that the walls in this apartment building were very thin. A neighbor could easily hear someone trying to turn on their water, even if they were on the other end of the hall. If anyone asked her, there wasn't much privacy in this building. Sitting back down on her bed, she prayed that Max would soon come down so they could find a better place.

Speaking of Max, her phone rang.

Grabbing her phone and walking over to her desk, Gidget put a smile on her face before she pressed answer. Max's face appeared on her screen. Delighted to see him, the fluffy white Pomeranian wagged her tail as she stated, "Hi Maxie! How was your day today?"

"Okay Gidget, what happened?" Max asked, raising one eyebrow. Gidget sighed. Her boyfriend always seemed to know when something was upsetting her. Resting her chin on one paw while holding her phone with the other, she muttered, "Today's just been... exhausting. Everything I thought was gonna happen didn't happen."

"You got parking duty, didn't ya?"

"Of course I did."

"Don't worry beautiful, tomorrow is gonna be better. Before you know it, you'll be doing great things for the city. I know you will," Max pointed out. Gidget smiled softly when she heard that. "I love you Maxie," she spoke quietly. The Jack Russell terrier grinned as he replied, "I love you too Gidget." With that, their phone call ended. Leaning back in her chair, Gidget hoped that what her boyfriend said was correct and tomorrow was better.

"You know," Mel piped up from next door, "I wish I could find someone who cared about me like that!"
