Janet's P. O. V

"Good morning everyone. I'm not going to waste more time, let's get to the results," Our principal speaks while Kiara's hand found mine and mine found Delna's, who is standing beside me.

"Del, where is Andrew?" I ask her and she shrugs.

"He said he has some work. Janet, what if Selena doesn't get it, but you don't get it either?" Delna asks me, catching Kiara's attention as well. I just shrug.

"As long as it's not her, I won't mind that much," I tell her and she along with Kiara grin at me.

"Well, if you guys have finished your personal discussion there, I'll announce the results," our principal taunts us and every pair of eyes turns our way.

All three of us stand there frozen, trying to maintain a serious expression. Well yes, trying to maintain our serious expression, because our funny bones tickle all the more in the such serious situations.

Kiara starts looking at her feet in an attempt to control her laughter. Delna squeezes my hand and sets her lips in a straight line in order to control herself. I am simply standing, with my eyes wide open, blinking slowly.

"Alright. We start of with the president of the student council. The president is..."

I and Selena exchang an incomprehensible look. My heart is beating fast and my hands are becoming sweaty. All the years, all the hard work, all the competition, coming down to this one moment...

"Kiara Adams," our principal announces and all eyes turn our way.

I won't lie, my heart did sink. I wanted to be president, at least once and this was my last chance, but that feeling lasts for just for a few seconds.

I turn and attack Kiara in a hug, who is standing still in shock. Delna hugs us from behind. I steal a glance at Selena. She has a stoic expression. Everyone is clapping and we release a still-shocked Kiara so she can go up and take her badge. We were clapping all the way, till Kiara comes back with her badge.

"Alright, now the head of the academic club this year is Selena, sports club is Delna and the Drama club head is Janet," our principal announces and everyone starts clapping but I freeze.

Not the Drama club. This can't be happening.

Why, you may ask. Well because the drama teacher is Selena's aunt and she hates my guts. I glance at Selena again and she is now smirking at me.

I finally notice Delna looking at me sympathetically. I give her a tight smile before we walk towards the stage.

I can see Mrs McCartney smiling down at me evilly. She just despises me, like her niece. Now, she is just going to make sure I have a really hard time.

Kiara is standing off stage and she is trying really hard to control her laughter. I roll my eyes at her.

Yeah, she finds my misery funny.

"Congratulations Selena. I hope you and Kiara work together well," our principal says to Selena and they both look at each other. Kiara gives her a wide and mischievous smile and Selena gives her a forced smile before walking off stage. Delna collects her badge and stands down beside Kiara. I go up to collect my badge.

"Congratulations Janet. The drama club needed someone really good since it's been on the low for quite some years now. Hence we have given you this responsibility. I hope you do justice to it," my principal tells me while handing over the badge to me.

Just then Selena's aunt, Mrs McCartney comes ahead.

"Janet darling, don't feel bad that you didn't become the president. It's completely fine. I hope you get over it and I hope you don't let it affect your work for the drama club," she says and I grind my teeth before forcing a smile. I'm about to say something but Kiara beats me to it.

"Don't worry about it. Wherever Janet goes, she changes everything, for good. I think you should be careful ma'am, you never know, she might just change the staff that's in charge of the Drama department, if she feels it's necessary," Kiara says and even the principal bursts out laughing, covering his mouth instantly.

I give her a victorious smile and Kiara is smirking at her.

She laughs at my misery but, according to her, only she is allowed to do that.

I go down and make my way to my friends. Both of them smile at me and I smile back at them, knowing exactly what they are trying to imply.

"It's celebration time!" all the three of us scream together but we are not allowed to enjoy the moment for a little longer.

"Not for you Janet. We, unfortunately, have work to do. We have an interschool Drama face off in the coming month and we need to start preparing for it. I need you to go to the Drama room and arrange all the mess systematically. There are a few scripts, given in by students. You need to read them and decide which one we will be doing. You also need to get the auditorium ready for rehearsals. All this, by day after tomorrow. You will not be allowed to work during class hours because I don't want you to bunk. So you come early and leave late to get the work done," Mrs McCartney lists all the work I have to do. I knew she is doing it purposely. I could have easily started tomorrow. She is trying to get on my nerve from the very first day.

She thinks she can get to me? Well, she needs to think again.

"Okay Ma'am. Consider it done," I say and she smirks at me before leaving.

I turn to look at my friends to see their funny expressions. Kiara is eying Mrs McCartney and I'm sure she already has one hundred and one ways of killing her. Delna us pouting and has crossed her arms like a five year old.

"Guys, chill. We can do this tomorrow," I tell them and they nod in understanding.

Our principal then walks towards us and everyone else is mostly out.

"There's this one thing I need to tell you girls. It's confidential, but since I can trust you girls, I'm telling you guys," he says and motions for us to come over. We give him puzzling looks but listen to what he has to say anyway.

"Kiara, you won because of student votes. When we announced yesterday that we were accepting suggestions, we got 15 of them. Out of those 15, ten of them had your name. We don't know who gave them to us though. We just found a bag full of chits on my desk today morning. I think you have alot of fans," he says and left us, amused.

I just wiggle my eyebrows at Kiara and Delna gives her a shoulder bump. Kiara just blushes and shrugs.

"Alright, I will see you guys later," I say and make my way to the drama room. I know I can't bunk, but then, who cares? I'm going to bunk and do the work anyway.

"All the best," Kiara and Delna scream. I turn and smile at them before carrying on.

I guess I'm going to need that.

****************************

One hour.

It's been one hour since school ended and I still have to go through the scripts. This room hadn't been cleant in ages. In fact, I think no one has come here since ages.

I know I didn't have to do this. It's just Mrs McCartney's way of getting on my nerves. I bet she never uses this room.

I arrange all the props in place, clear and arrange all the cds and sort all the scripts. Now, I have all the scripts arranged, according to their genre. I still have to go through them to decide which one I'm going to pick.

I'll come early tomorrow morning and finish the work in the auditorium and then I can go through these scripts. Yes, I'll do that.

With that thought, I grab my bag and walk out of the drama room before locking the door.

Finally, after hours of tedious work, I can go home. Kiara texted me that she will be leaving and I will have to manage going home on my own.

The entire school is empty already and there is pin drop silence around me. I can hear myself breathing as well. I guess that's exactly why I hear the whispers pretty clearly.

I stopped in my tracks, my ears perking up. Nothing came.

I must be hallucinating.

"Seriously? He knows we're in this town?" I hear a voice again, this time louder and clearer.

"Yes, he does. He will come for you, soon. So you need to make sure you are more careful from now on," another voice speaks and I move towards the voice. It's coming from a classroom and from a distance, I see two people. I move closer to see Steven talking to someone.

I should have known. This guy is the synonym of shady.

The other guy is wearing a black leather jacket with a tiger's face printed on the back.

I am just about to get close when my clumsy self decides to show up.

My bag starts falling of my shoulder and I swing it back up. When I do that, the bag hits the locker and makes a sound loud enough to wake the dead.

I see Steven pushing the other guy in and starts moving towards the door.

I do the first thing that comes to my mind, I run.

I'm not a coward, but he can kill me and bury me somewhere in school and know one would know. I run and I hear footsteps following me. In times like this, I wish I would have worked on my running skills because I'm huffing and puffing right now.

I get in an abandoned classroom, right next to the auditorium and hide behind a table. From the little gap, I see Steven pass by and he looks inside my class. He is about to come in but he looks the other way before going in that direction.

I breathe a sign of relief. Thank God he didn't catch me. I just wonder what he would do.

There is something really fishy about him and I'm very curious.
