Chapter nineteen

Gabriel teleported the three of them to Jamie’s house, scaring the psychic with their sudden appearance. “I’m never going to get used to that.” Jamie sighed, then noticed the collar floating a bit higher than Alex’s waist. “What’s that…?”

Leo growled at her. “Hey, Leo stop.” Alex grabbed his collar and pulled him back. “This is Leo. My hellhound.”

“Hellhound?!” Jamie echoed. “They’re real?! Why can’t I see him?”

“You can only see them if you sold your soul and the contracts up. Or if you’re a demon.” Alex explained.

“Oh…” Jamie wasn’t even going to ask about the whole selling your soul thing. “Wait...are you ok now?” She looked at Alex’s bloodstained clothing, and Gabriel’s wounded shoulder.

“Turns out Dan’s a douche.” Alex crossed her arms.

“No surprise there.” Gabriel commented sarcastically.

Alex rolled her eyes, “Are we doing this or not?”

“Yeah, sure. Not like you didn’t just nearly die or anything.”

“What’s your problem? You said we have to do the spell. You healed me, I’m fine.” Alex raised an eyebrow at Gabriel.

“Uhm, guys? Can you please not fight. Let’s just get this over with. It’s not going to be an easy task.” Jamie interrupted them.

“Yeah. C’mon, we might as well do it while I still agree.” Alex agreed with the psychic.

Gabriel sighed, “Ok. Sorry, I was still mad at Dantalion.”

“Whatever. He’s dead now.” Alex assured him.

“How’d you almost die by the way?” Jamie asked Alex.

“We’ll explain later.” Gabriel waved it off.

“Why do I have to be tied up?” Alex pulled against the ropes holding her arms down. Another set of ropes held her legs in place.

“Just in case something happens.” Gabriel teleported in, placing one of the last ingredients they needed on a coffee table they were using.

         “Is that everything?” Jamie asked.

“Almost, all that’s left is your blood.”

“Right…” Jamie trailed off. “How much?”

“Wait, why is human blood involved?” Alex butted in.

“Makes the spell stronger.” Gabriel explained.

“Don’t worry, you should be fine.” Jamie smiled.

“Yeah, sure.” Alex rolled her eyes.

“Oooh, this’ll be fun.” Lucifer commented, appearing beside Leo who stood at the back of the living room.

Alex held in a groan at the sound of the older archangels voice, of course he has to show up.

“Ok, let’s do this.” Jamie grabbed a kitchen knife and ran it along her left palm, hovering her hand over a spare wineglass she had. She winced but continued, squeezing her hand into a fist to collect more blood. She placed the knife down on the table and grabbed a towel to stop the bleeding, “Is that enough?”

“Yeah, that’s plenty.” Gabriel nodded. He couldn’t do much to help, a human had to perform the entire spell.

“Ok…” Jamie repeated, I’ve got this… She picked up an old book that had the latin spell in it and began to recite it, placing the other ingredients into a bowl as she did so.

Alex squirmed a bit, she felt uncomfortable but nothing else really happened, “Is this even working?”

“Give it a minute.” Gabriel told her.

“Are you bored? I can add some scenery if you’d like.” Lucifer offered. “How’s this?” He snapped and chains broke through the ceiling with a large cracking noise. “Hmm… Needs something more…” He thought for a few moments then a noose appeared around Alex’s neck.

Alex closed her eyes and forced herself to ignore the tightening rope around her neck that was cutting off her air supply. He’s not real. You’ve gone through worse, so just ignore it…

“Aw, you’re no fun.” Lucifer pouted, making the noose disappear.

I thought you were waiting until we finished this to fuck with me? Alex spoke to him in her mind, not wanted to sound insane to Gabriel and Jamie, who were continuing the spell like nothing was happening.

“Eh, this is more fun.” Lucifer shrugged. “You feeling anything yet?”

“I don’t think this is working.” Alex growled as Lucifer set her and the floor around her on fire. Her entire body felt like it was burning and she was scared for a moment that she really was on fire.

“Ooooh! Looks like it is working!” Lucifer sounded pleased.

“No, it’s working. I can tell.” Gabriel was watching her closely in case anything happened and they needed to stop.

“Are you sure we can continue?” Jamie paused reading to ask. She looked at Alex who was glaring at an empty space beside Leo. Also, Alex’s hands were firmly gripping the arms of the chair, and were trembling violently.

Alex looked away from Lucifer to Jamie, “Y-Yeah...Keep going...I’m fine.” But Alex was starting to feel the affects of the spell, and Lucifer wasn’t helping. She hadn’t noticed the painful burning sensation throughout her entire body was getting worse until now.

Jamie glanced between Alex and Gabriel then looked back down at the old latin book, continuing to recite the spell.

Gabriel continued to watch Alex, he could sense that she was becoming less demonic, but the spell seemed to be eating away at the part of her that had always been there. I think she’s becoming completely human…..He couldn’t decide if that was a bad thing or not, but he knew Alex wouldn’t be happy. That’s if she survives of course.

Gabriel shook his head, trying to clear his doubtful thoughts. But it was true, the likeliness of her being able to survive becoming human was almost nothing. He could heal her as much as possible, but that wouldn’t make her chances any better really.

Alex began to squirm more, she really felt like she was on fire now. On the outside she looked mostly fine besides her shallow breathing and shaky body, but on the inside, she was sure her organs were literally burning. Her energy was quickly fading as Jamie neared the end of the spell, “Hurry up.”

Gabriel paused Jamie and walked over to Alex, placing two fingers on her forehead. He began to heal her, but pulled away in confusion after a few moments. “What the hell?”

“What’s wrong?” Jamie walked over, book still in hand.

“It’s like the inside of her body's on fire….” Gabriel trailed off, trying to think of a reason why this was happening. “We have to finish the spell, quickly.”

“But what if it kills her?!”

“I’ll heal her at the same time. I should be able to do something to help.” Gabriel decided, placing his entire hand on Alex’s forehead this time.

“O-Ok…” Jamie fumbled with the book a bit before regaining her composure and beginning the spell again.

Alex gasped at the amount of things happening to her body at once. She tightly closed her eyes and tried to pull away from Gabriel’s hand, but she couldn’t move. She could hear Lucifer laughing in the background as he continued to torment her, even though her eyes were closed.”S-St-Stop!” She squirmed more, trying to break free from the ropes holding her to the chair. “P-Please…”

Jamie quickly finished the spell and Gabriel removed his hand from Alex. They both backed up a bit, waiting to see what would happen. Alex was panting and gasping for air before her body gave up and she fell unconscious.

“I-Is she….?” Jamie’s eyes were wide with fear. Gabriel rushed to Alex’s side and looked for a pulse.

“No...She’s ok….Sort of…” Gabriel tried to heal her again, but couldn’t do much.

         “Sort of?”

“She has a pulse, but it’s weak. She just needs to rest…” Gabriel assured, turning to the psychic.

Jamie nodded, she felt horrible for having to put Alex through all of that. “Should we move her?”

“Yeah…” Gabriel easily snapped the ropes holding Alex and lifted her from the wooden chair.

“Ok. Let’s bring her to the spare room then.”

~

Alex blinked her eyes open and stared at the ceiling above her. Where am I? She inhaled deeply, but was cut short as a sharp pain pierced her lungs. She cleared her mind for a moment, trying to figure out how badly she had been wounded. Every inch of her body hurt, and her limbs felt like they weighed a million pounds as she tried to lift them. She managed to sit up, her head beginning to spin.

"Oh look, you survived.” Alex looked over to Lucifer who was leaning against a bookshelf.

Alex frowned in confusion, only just beginning to remember everything that happened. Once everything came back to her, she stood up, ignoring the pain.

“Where do you think you’re going?” Lucifer stood up straight and watched her.

“L-Leave me alone…” Alex didn’t turn to look at the archangel.

“Why? We’ve been having so much fun!” Lucifer’s mood seemed to change from bored and annoyed to mischievous and evil.

“Just get away from me.” Alex made her way to the door, leaning against the doorway to regain her strength once she got there.

“Don’t you wanna know how long you’ve been out?”

“You’re not real. If I don’t know the answer, you don’t either.” Alex refused to listen to him, but couldn’t stop the graphic memories of hell flashing through her mind.

“Almost a week.” Lucifer grinned. “Gabriel was just about to give up on you.”

Alex cringed at the younger archangel’s name. She felt excessively guilty about everything she had done, she didn’t even want to face him. “I’m such an idiot…” Alex muttered. She stopped leaning against the doorframe and made her way down the hall, not sure how to get out without running into Gabriel or Jamie.

“Why don’t you just jump out the window? Or teleport? Oh wait, you’re human now! I forgot!” Lucifer teased.

“H-Human…?” Alex’s eyes widened, and she stopped walking.

“Mhm. It explains why you’re so much easier to mess with now.”

         “What do you mean?”

“You think you woke up? In your state?!” Lucifer laughed.

Alex swallowed hard and looked around. What’s happening….?! Now panicking, Alex hurried down the stairs, making sure to be quiet. She could hear Gabriel and Jamie’s voices in the living room, and she cautiously passed the room and headed to the back door.

Alex ran out the door, then suddenly tripped on something, and fell to the ground. She looked around for what tripped her and saw a severed head on the ground- her head. She gasped and stood up, ignoring the fresh cuts on her hands from landing on them and Lucifer’s evil laughter following her closely.

She found a car, it wasn’t in great condition, but it would have to do. Alex hardwired the car with shaky hands, then quickly drove away from the psychic’s house.

“What are you trying to run from?” Lucifer appeared in the backseat. “You can’t escape me, I’m inside you. So what is it?”

“Shut up.” Alex tried to ignore him.

“Are you afraid Gabriel won’t forgive you? You know, he might of, but here you are running away again. Don’t you think he’ll get sick of saving you?” Lucifer continued to taunt Alex.

“S-Shut up!” Alex screamed. She didn’t know what was happening, but she just wanted him to stop. Alex noticed a bar, and pulled into the parking lot, somehow hoping drinking would help. Please….Just stop already….
