Chapter thirteen

Gabriel flipped through a phone book, searching for a number. “C’mon...Where is it?!” He skimmed through a few more pages before he found who he needed, “Finally.” He sighed and picked up his phone, dialing the number.

“Hello?” A female’s voice asked on the other line.

“Hey, uh, I have a question…” Gabriel started. How the hell am I supposed to explain why I’m calling?

“You need help, right? A friend of yours?” The woman assumed.

         “Uh, yeah…”

         “Well, I don’t know how much I can help, I’m only a psychic…”

“I think you can. I can’t. I can explain later, will you help me?” Gabriel didn’t want to ask a human for help, but he couldn’t do the spell he found alone. It required some human blood, and a human had to perform the spell. Besides human blood, it used a few other ingredients that Gabriel could easily get. He had also found another one to remove Dantalion’s seal.

“I-I guess…I’ll see you soon then.” The psychic sounded concerned, “Are you sure you’re willing to do this? It could kill her, you know?”

Gabriel sighed, “I know. But I don’t have any other options.”

Alex paced the small hotel room, “What’s taking Dan so long anyway?!” She grumbled. “Yanno what? Screw it. I’m going out.” Alex decided, grabbing her angel blade and hiding it away in one of her boots.

         Hey, where are you going?

Alex stopped dead in her tracks at the sound of Dan’s voice. Dan? Why are you in my head….?

Comes with the seal, sorry kiddo. Don’t go out though, I need you to stay inside. I have the hotel room warded off so no one will find you.

No. I’ll be fine. I have built-in protection from angels and demons anyway. I won’t be long. Alex left the hotel room, and entered the parking lot. She groaned, remembering her car was probably back at the apartment. Oh whatever. Might as well go…

Alex walked down the hall to her apartment, keys in hand. She reached the door, but before she could unlock it, it opened.

“We’ve been waiting for you.” A man stood in the doorway smirking, his eyes pitch black. He grabbed Alex by her arm and pulled her into the apartment, knocking the keys and her purse from her hands.

“Hey, douchebag, let go!” Alex struggled to break free from his grip.

“Sorry sweetie, that’s not gonna happen.” Another demon said, standing up from the couch.

“Hey, why don’t we have a little fun with her?” The demon holding Alex suggested.

A small smile formed on the other demon’s lips for a moment, then faded. “What if the boss finds out? He’d kill us!”

“Eh, we’re gonna kill her anyway. Might as well enjoy it.” The first demon shrugged. Alex struggled more, and he tightened his grip on her arms.

“We weren't ordered to kill her, Joe.”

“You think there’s a cure for Dantalion’s seal?” Joe laughed. “Boss’ Alex is loooong gone. No point in keeping her.”

“Hey! Let me go!” Alex growled. The demon holding her- Joe- smirked and tightened his grip more. Alex growled again, an inhuman noise coming from her mouth and her eyes turned dark red.

“See!” Joe laughed again. “She’s lost it!”

“I’m gonna lose it if you don’t let me go!” Alex snapped.

“Oh we’ll let you go, when we’re done playing with you. But only to make killing you more interesting.” The other demon smiled evilly. He walked over to Alex and cupped her face with one hand. “Shame that such a beautiful meat suit has to go to waste.” He commented, tracing a finger down Alex’s jaw.

Alex tried to nip at his hand, but he moved it away in time. “I’m only going to ask you this one last time. Let. Me. Go.” Her voice was low and menacing, and she glared at the demon, her eyes still completely red.

         “Not gonna happen, hun.”

“Fine. You wanna play? We can play.” Alex stopped struggling and stood still, Joe still holding her arms, but he loosened his grip a bit. The other demon was still close, so Alex took the opportunity to kick him in his sensitive area. Being a demon, this didn’t affect him much, but he did stagger a bit, giving Alex enough time to kick the demon holding her and break free.

She pulled out her angel blade and turned to the two demons who were now standing side by side, “Woah, wait girlie.” Joe raised his hands. “We were only kidding. We just wanted to mess with you before taking you to Crowley.”

“Mess with me?” Alex raised an eyebrow, giving them a death glare. “You chose a baaad time to do that.” She smirked a bit and twirled the angel blade in her hands.

Gabriel walked towards Alex’s apartment. He wasn’t sure she’d be there, but it couldn’t hurt to check.

As he neared the apartment door, he noticed Alex’s keys and purse lying on the ground. Shit. He stepped over the items and pushed open the partly open wooden door. “Alex-” He froze in place, surprised at the scene before him.

“Gabriel…?” Alex’s hands were coated in blood and a bloody angel blade laid beside her on the ground. Two demons were also nearby, both bloody and cut up, much more than necessary. Blood was everywhere, and it took Gabriel a moment to take it all in.

“What the hell happened?!” Gabriel took a few steps into the apartment.

“Back off.” Alex swiftly picked up her angel blade from the floor and held it in front of her.

Gabriel stopped, “I just want to talk.”

“What? Didn’t understand me last time?” Alex taunted.

“I found a way to fix this.” Gabriel ignored her comment, although it did hurt.

“Of course you did.” Alex rolled her eyes. “I don’t care. I’m not going anywhere with you.”

Gabriel took another step towards her. “Alex, please. You have to know what you’re doing is wrong.”

“Stop.” Alex raised the blade more. “I’m doing what’s right. If Lucifer get’s out again….” Alex trailed off.

Gabriel eased forward another small step, “Is that his plan? Killing Lucifer before he can get out? What about Michael?”

“Kill him too.” Alex said simply.

“You really think you two can take on three archangels?” Gabriel asked, taking another step.

         “Three?”

“I’m not going to let you do this.”

“Back off, Gabriel.” Alex warned. “I’m going to end this. You agree, don’t you? Aren’t you sick of your brothers fighting? This is the only way to stop it for good.”

“They’re in the cage! It’s already been dealt with!”

“For now. What about in another thousand years?” Alex pointed out. “Someone’s going to fuck up some time.”

“It’s not worth getting yourself killed over. Look what’s happened to you!” Gabriel gestured to her bloodied hands and clothing, then to the dead demons and bloodied living room.

Alex looked herself and the room over, “So what? If we want this to work I have to be stronger.”

“Is that what Dantalion told you? He’s just using you, can’t you tell?!” Gabriel took one more step closer to Alex.

“No. He loves me! He said so!” Alex exclaimed.

I love you, Alex! And I’m trying to keep you from getting yourself killed!”

He’s lying, Alex. You know you can’t trust him. Dan’s voice echoed in her head. Alex bit her lip. Her mind was racing. Don’t let him get to you. We’re so close, Alex. You need to kill him.

         What?!

You have to Alex. He’ll only get in the way. Kill him. Now.

Alex adjusted her grip on the angel blade, and her thoughts cleared. I...have to…

“Alex?” Gabriel noticed her expression change. She looked completely relaxed, and her pupils were dilated. Is Dantalion controlling her…? He noticed her taking on a fighting stance. “Alex, don’t do this.”

“I have to.” Her voice lacked any emotion.

“Dammit. I’m not going to fight you. Snap out of it, Alex!” Gabriel tried to get through to her. Alex jumped to attack him, and Gabriel managed to knock the blade from her hands. “I’m sorry, Alex…” He reluctantly placed two fingers on her forehead, a method he really didn’t want to use, but it was the only way to sever Dantalion’s connection to Alex.

Alex froze as every memory from hell poured into her thoughts. Every single thing that happened in hell that she had so carefully tucked away in the back of her mind where she would never have to remember them, came to the front of her mind. Vivid images passed by, making her head spin, and she gasped in horror. “N-No!” Her head felt like it was splitting open and she swore she caught a glimpse of Lucifer standing behind Gabriel, smirking in amusement.

She fell to her knees and Gabriel caught her, “I’m sorry.” He apologized again, his voice full of sadness. “I had to…” He picked up her trembling body, bridal style, holding her close to his chest. He sighed, looking down at her, Gabriel hated making her remember everything, but he knew when she woke up she’d be under Dantalion’s control again.
