Chapter 16

“Hey, where are you?” Gabriel asked on the other end of the phone call.

“Madison, Wisconsin.” Alex answered, holding the phone with one hand and driving with the other. “I found a case, I’m going to kill the djinn now.”

         “Okay. Want me to come?”

“Nah, it’s fine. It shouldn’t take long.” Alex shook her head even though he couldn’t see her. “I’ll call you when I’m done, ok?”

“Yeah, alright.” Gabriel agreed and they both hung up.

Alex drove up to an abandoned building, a djinn’s favorite place to hide out. “Not very original…” Alex muttered, getting out of her camaro. She reached back into the car and pulled out her silver knife and a jar of lambs blood. She opened the jar and dunked the blade in half way. She wrinkled her nose at the smell, “Alright. Let’s go gank a djinn.” Alex chuckled at herself, the Winchesters are rubbing off on me, huh?

She cautiously walked into the building, holding the blade out in front of her. She was a little on edge, but didn’t know why. Alex walked around almost the entire building, before she stumbled upon a girl being held up by her arms with rope, an iv in her neck that seemed to be draining her blood. The girl was unconscious, and looked filthy.

Alex crept around old boxes and pallets, making sure the djinn wouldn’t see her. She watched as a woman covered in tattoos walked over to the hanging girl. The girl woke up slightly and started whimpering, and the tattooed woman, who Alex assumed was the djinn, quieted her. The female djinn’s hand began to glow blue, and she stroked the still whimpering girls face.

Alex heard footsteps near her and turned around to see another djinn right behind her. He was covered in tattoos as well. Alex quickly stood and tried to attack the djinn, who dodged her attack and pinned her to a nearby wall. Alex tried to pull away, surprised at the djinn’s strength. The male djinn’s free hand began to glow and he touched Alex’s forehead.

Alex expected pain, or a weird feeling, but none came. “I guess I’m stronger than you thought.” Alex chuckled, and used the djinn’s surprise to push him away. Alex moved to attack the djinn again, but suddenly felt extremely tired. Her vision began to blur and she heard the knife clatter to the ground. “Oh, what the hell.” Alex used the wall to support her. The male djinn came over and touched her face with his glowing hand again, poisoning her more. Dammit…

Alex woke up and looked around. “What the…..” This looks like a dorm room….

“Alex! Are you ready? We’re going to be late!” A redheaded girl walked out of the dorm’s bathroom. She wore black jeans and a band tee shirt. “Seriously? You’re not even dressed yet?” The girl rolled her eyes and went over to her side of the room.

“S-Sky?!” Alex stared at her childhood friend in shock. Her friend had died when they were just kids, a drunk driver hit her.

“What?” Sky turned around to look at Alex and laughed, “You look like you’ve seen a ghost!”

“I-I…” Alex stood up from the bed she had been sitting on. She was at a complete loss of words.

“Come on! We’re already late, just wear that, you know the professor doesn’t care.” Sky grabbed Alex’s hand and pulled her out the door.

“Where are we going?” Alex asked as she followed her friend down a large hallway.

“What do you mean where are we going?” Sky laughed. “If you want to be an author, you have to do writing classes!”

“Writing…?” Alex remembered how she always wanted to be an author when she was younger.

“Yeah! Remember? And, Brandon’s in this class!”

         "Brandon…?”

Sky stopped at a door, “Brandon, your boyfriend….”

“O-Oh?” Alex had no idea what was going on. She followed Sky into the lecture hall. She stayed nearby Sky, who sat near a boy with brown hair and deep brown eyes.

“Hey Alex,” The boy smiled warmly and Alex assumed it was Brandon.

“H-Hi….” Alex sat down beside Brandon and looked around at the other students, looking for something she knew.

 ~

After sitting in lecture after lecture, which Alex didn’t pay attention to, she finally had time to herself. She left the college campus, although Sky and Brandon had tried to get her to stay. She still had her camaro, and everything inside looked the same.

Alex sat in front of her old house. She couldn’t believe it was there. “Holy….” Alex got out of her car and walked up to the doorstep. She rang the doorbell and knocked, not knowing what she expected. Inside, she could hear a dog barking. Leo…?

A woman opened the door, she had black hair tied into a bun and pale blue eyes like Alex’s. Alex froze, staring at the woman before her. “Mom….?”

“Alex? Shouldn’t you be at college?” Alex’s eyes began to water. “Alex, honey? Are you alright?” Her mother looked worried.

“Yeah,” Alex stepped forward and hugged her mom. “I’m okay…”

“What’s gotten into you all of a sudden? Did that Brandon kid hurt you!?”

“What? No, no...I just…” Alex noticed her mother wasn’t wearing the necklace Crowley got her. “Where’s your necklace?”

“What necklace?” Her mother stepped inside and Alex followed.

“The one dad gave you…” Alex looked around the house in wonder. A black labrador retriever ran up to Alex, his paws thumping on the wood floors. “Leo?” Alex looked at the dog. He looked a lot friendlier than he usually was, and didn’t look violent at all.

“Alex, I haven’t talked to your father since you were born….Remember? He wanted nothing to do with you.” Her mom still looked worried.

“Seriously…?” Honestly, that sounds more like him then how he actually acts…. “Is this him…?” Alex picked up a picture of her mom and another man, who wasn’t Crowley.

         “Yes….Honey have you been drinking?”

“What? No. I don’t drink…” Alex put the picture down and looked at the others. Wait a minute...If Crowley’s not my dad then…. Alex looked at a picture that sat above a fireplace, trying to make it fall with her mind. Nothing happened no matter how hard she concentrated on it. Alex looked back to Leo, “Can you see him?”

         “Of course I can...Why wouldn’t I be able to?”

“Uh...I don’t know...Just checking…” Alex looked around the house some more. Everything was the same, but different. “Was there ever a fire here?” Alex turned back to her mother.

“No….Why do you ask? Wouldn’t you remember something horrible like that?”

“Y-Yeah...I would….” Alex walked over to the staircase. “Can I check out my room?”

“Well of course, it’s your room after all.” Her mother laughed.

Alex smiled and walked up the stairs and down a hall to her old bedroom. “Oh wow.” Alex laughed at the room. It looked exactly like it did when she was a kid. She looked at the ground where she had accidently killed that angel. There were no wings burnt into the carpet. “I guess everything really is normal, huh. No angels, no demons, no monsters….” Alex looked over the room once more before leaving.

Gabriel sighed. He had been waiting for a few hours now and hadn't gotten a call from Alex. “Why is she so good at getting herself in trouble…” I guess it’s time to save her ass again…

He knew she was in Madison, he just didn’t know where. He decided to read more about djinn before he tried to find her. “Ugh. Reading.”

Gabriel spent a few hours reading about djinn before he got bored and decided he knew enough. He teleported to Madison, Wisconsin and tried to find an abandoned building. It didn’t take long, and He went inside, not worried about the djinn.

 ~

Alex sat with Sky and Brandon at a small cafe nearby the college campus. They were laughing and having a good time, and Alex had forgotten about the djinn for the time being.

“So where did you go when you left earlier?” Sky asked.

“I went to my mom’s.” Alex explained.

“Really? How is she?” Brandon asked.

         “She seemed well…” Alex smiled.

“That’s good.” Sky said and Brandon nodded.

“How are you though, Alex?” Brandon turned to her. “You seemed a little off earlier.”

“Oh, I guess I just had a rough night.” Alex shrugged. “But I’m fine now.”

“I’m glad.” Brandon smiled and leaned over and kissed her.

Alex expected it to be amazing, like everything else in this normal world. But it wasn’t. Alex pulled away, it felt wrong. She looked at Brandon and something was off. Everything was off actually. She didn’t have Gabriel, or Sam and Dean here, and it was a little boring without them. And here, she didn’t have a father. She also didn’t feel anything towards Brandon like she did Gabriel.

“I...I’ll be right back...Okay?” Alex got up and walked away from the others before they could question her. She wanted to stay there badly, but she remembered it wasn’t real. That djinn could be killing me as I waste my time here pretending! Sure, she loved having Sky and her mother back, but it wasn’t real. I need to get out of here….

“Alex wait!” She heard Sky call for her and she cringed. She’s going to make this hard, isn’t she… “Where are you going?” Sky asked, now standing beside her.

“I’m sorry. But you’re not real.” Alex managed to keep herself from giving in. “You died a long time ago.”

“What? What are you talking about Alex? I’m right here!” Sky placed her hands on Alex’s shoulders. “I’m real!”

“No. You’re not.” Alex held her ground. She pushed past Sky, but she didn’t know where she was going. Maybe I could go to Wisconsin...Where the djinn is.

“Please don’t leave.” Sky pleaded. “You’re happy here.”

Alex sighed and turned back towards the redhead, “It’s not real though.”

“So you’d rather be back there, in that horrible world where you know everyone’s going to die?”

Alex stayed silent for a while. “I’m not gonna let them die.”

 ~

Gabriel found Alex and another girl hanging by their arms with rope from the ceiling. They both had iv’s in their neck. He could hear two more people in the building, which he figured were the djinns. So there’s two of them…

The female djinn walked over to Alex and placed a glowing hand on her face. Gabriel teleported behind the djinn and easily smited her when she turned around. He then moved to Alex, “Hey, Alex!” He tried to shake her awake but it didn’t work. “Alex!” Gabriel pulled the iv from her neck and continued to try and wake her up.

“G-Gabriel…?” Alex opened her eyes slightly.

“Yeah, hey.” Gabriel easily snapped the rope holding her up, catching her as she fell. He placed two fingers on her forehead with his free hand and healed her, getting rid of the djinn poison.

“Look out!” Alex yelled, seeing the male djinn coming up behind them.

Gabriel placed Alex on her feet and turned around to the djinn in one movement. He placed a hand on the djinn like the last one and killed it.

Alex went over to the other girl and pulled the iv from her neck, cutting her down as well. “Hey, can you heal her too?”

“Yeah.” Gabriel came over and did the same thing he did to Alex to the girl.

The girl opened her eyes and looked around her, confused. “Where am I?”

“It’s okay. You’re fine now.” Alex tried to calm the girl, placing her on her feet.

Author's Note-

I made myself sad when I realized without trying to I made it that Alex decided to never drink when Sky died from a drunk driver..... *totally not crying*

I liked and disliked this chapter.... It was like "What Is And What Should Never Be" in season two of Supernatural...It was what inspired me to do this....

From here on out is serious chapters, as we near the end. *sobbing* You may not get why now, but you will eventually.
