Again, do I know anything about science? no and I still do not care

This is the last chapter of Defying their Demons and there will be an author's note after this chapter!

Y/n shifted in the hospital bed to try and find a comfortable spot to sleep in. As soon as she was about to close her eyes she was interrupted.

"Are you sure you're not in pain? The new implant is on its way and then you'll get your pain receptors back so then you'll be in a lot of pain, like a lot of pain, I mean who wouldn't? You got stabbed through the leg, not just in the leg but actually through your leg. And do you want your bandages changed? Or are they too tight? We can call the nurse to-"

"Felicity," Y/n stopped her. "The bandages are fine, I'm fine and I don't need anymore pain medicine."

Felicity nodded, before she could go on another speech Oliver cut her off by holding her hand.

"If she says she's fine, she's fine."

Y/n laughed at her parents and shook her head. Someone knocked and the door opened, the new doctor assigned to Y/n's case, and trusted with their secret identities, entered the room and shut the door behind them.

The solemn look on their face made Y/n's smile drop.

Finally, the day she was going to be discharged was the day that Damian was able to see Y/n. He was given absolutely no details about her surgery or her recovery or how she was even doing. What a horrible hospital. With stupid rules like that, he was basically family but no. Ridiculous.

The limo parked across the street from the hospital and Damian looked at the tall building. Hospitals were gross.

"Do tell Ms. Queen I say hello," Alfred looked back at Damian who was making sure the flowers he got were not smashed.

Damian rolled his eyes as Alfred chuckled. He waved goodbye to his butler and went to see his girlfriend.

He adjusted the visitor's pass on his shirt and made sure his turtle neck was on properly, the last time he met with Oliver and Felicity Queen, the former pointed out how his collar was slightly crooked and Damian was not going to let that happen again.

He knocked on Y/n's door and entered the room once he heard her say come in.

She looked drained and it made his heart hurt. She had dark circles under her eyes and slightly puffy eyelids.

"My parents are out getting lunch, they'll be back before I'm officially discharged."

Damian nodded and kissed her forehead before kissing her. Her smile didn't quite reach her eyes but when she saw the bouquet in his hand it grew. He handed them to her and she thanked him.

"Did you get the implant?"

"No, I will in a few months."

"Then what was this surgery for?"

She kept silent and fiddled with the twine wrapping of the flowers. When Y/n lifted them to smell she whimpered and teared up.

"What happened?" Damian sat down beside her on the bed.

Y/n huffed and looked at the ceiling. "Slade poisoned me. Again. It must have been while we were unconscious." Damian raised an eyebrow. "It was a mutated form of a pesticide. It caused my... it killed my internal reproductive organs." Damian frowned and held her.

"Did you want children?"

"I wanted the option."

"We still have other options."

Y/n pulled back to look at him through tears, "'We'?" She felt Damian tense and smiled.

"I said you have options."

She laughed and kissed his cheek. "Sure you did."

Damian hid a smile and rubbed her head. He still had the vial of Lazarus water at home but he knew better than to bring it up. After the last mission, Y/n had made him promise to never let anyone use it on her. He knew it was a risk to give the vial to her but what other choice did they have? She needed to be able to move. At least now she was able to live a somewhat normal life.

"How is being retired?"

She moved over so he could lay down next to her. She rested her head on his chest while he rubbed her shoulder. When did he become so domesticated?

"Boring. Though, I still need to finish high school so I guess that is going to keep me busy." Y/n looked up at him. "You know I'm leaving the team, not you." He nodded his head, the past insecurities resurfacing. "Here," Y/n twisted off some pieces of the twine from the flowers and tied them into little circles.

"What are you doing?"

She slid one of the circles onto Damian's left ring finger. He held her hand and took the twine ring from her, placing it onto her ring finger.

"You really want to do this with me one day?"

They technically had done it before. Though it was awful and Y/n hated every second of it until the very end. This time it would be different. There would be a proper ceremony. Their friends and family would be behind them, filling the air with rice or flowers or whichever cheesy tradition they decide on. She could hear the bells chiming and the music playing in the background. Oliver would be there with her down that long path and tell Damian what he would do if anything bad happened. Y/n thought of the little girl who started all of this and how happy she would have been if she were able to see it.

And Y/n thought of Damian. The Damian who she loved more than herself. The Damian who pissed her off and made her laugh. Who she wanted to hold until she couldn't and tease until he turned red. She wanted to fight so they could make up and comfort when the other was sad. This long dance was over, though it could be argued that it will never end, and the two were finally ready to just be.

Y/n smiled at Damian and gently kissed him.

"I do."
