Okay take a deep breath Lachlan... Just open your eyes... And try to get up.

         Ba dum

Ever so slowly, my vision returns, doubled and blurry, but eventually clearing. I groan in pain, harsh sunlight stinging my sensitive eyes. Wincing and bringing up a trembling hand to fend off the light, I smack my dry lips, my body gradually waking up. Glancing blearily around, I find myself surrounded by wall grey cliffs, stranded in the bottom of a ravine. Shifting, I rake my memories to try and remember what happened. All I remember is rubbing from my jerk of a father and his guards, and then a sensation of falling. Guess I ended up in a ravine. But... I don't see any water, and this thing is freaking deep! So how did I survive...? A glance at the pool of blood I'm sitting in, but the lack of wounds on my body, I quickly out the pieces together. Oh. I didn't. I must've fallen to my death. But the blood is still fresh, so I must not have messed up that bad, seeing how fast I respawned. I determine, slowly rising to my feet, groaning with the effort.

"But that means I lost all my stuff..." I sigh, rubbing my temples in despair.

That's the drawback of respawning. Sure you get to live, but everything on you is disposed of, only leaving you with yourself and the clothes on your back. Which means, having died in the bottom of a ravine, there's no way for me to get out without destroying my knuckles. Oh what I wouldn't give it have a power like flight or something. I frown, glancing at my gem. I could be out of here in no time. But something tells me I'm not gonna be that lucky. So I'm going to have to look for another way up. I realize, somewhat angrily. But more than anything, I'm heartbroken. Sure, I wanted adventure, rather than staying at home and singing papers all day. But I didn't want it to happen this way... With my dad literally ordering me to be killed. Tears sting my eyes, and for the first time in my life, I feel truly and utterly alone.

"This has got to be the worst day of my life..." I blubber, wiping the teardrop from my cheeks with the heel of my palm.

And then suddenly, as if destiny has pity on me, a source of hope appears right in front of me. Literally. Before I know what's happening, ribbons of light are shooting from my now glowing gem. Five in total, they all stretch in a general Eastern direction, three of them being near invisible, and two of them glowing softly. Instantly, I know what they are. The lines are serving to connect and lead me to the other five people I'm supposed to save the world with. Something between a laugh and a sob topples out my mouth.

"I guess in not alone after all." I smile, hugging my gem close to my chest.

All my life I've distanced myself from others. I don't have any good friends. I'm not close to my parents. And really I've always been happy about that. All that mean was that I had more chances to sneak out and be left alone. But now, I find myself appreciating the chance at new friendships, and kindling determination grows in my heart. This time, I'll put an effort into resorting my reputation, and actually making friends for once. So readjusting the crown that sits upon my  head, I dust off my pants, and wipe away the last of my tears.

"First things first. I need to get out of here." I state firmly, to no one in particular. "Then I can worry about saving the world."

Looking left, and looking right, I decide left is probably my best option seeing as right leads into a pond of scorching hot lava. And as much as I want to dash over there, and get this show on the road, I know I need to take my time and conserve my energy. Because with no food, and being stranded in the bottom of this ravine, I either need to get out before I starve to death or be lucky enough to find a random chicken or something. Or possibly find a mob spawner. As dangerous as that'd be, there's bound to be some food in one of the two loot crates. I'm fine living without one though. The last thing I need is to be bitten by a zombie, and become infected or something like that.

As I venture further into the cave, which becomes cooler and increasingly damper as I go, my hopes begin to lift slightly. For, lining the walls, are torches. And here and there I can see evidence of ores and such being mined. So seeing these two things I quickly assume we've been mining here before. And by 'we' I mean the people living in my kingdom. Or... My parents I guess. My dad basically disowned me. But anyways, that means there has to be a way up somewhere. I just have to find it. Hey and maybe there'll be some pickaxes or food left behind. Well, I guess there's only one way to find out.

...So as it turns out... maybe venturing into a deep cave system unfamiliar and unarmed isn't the best idea. Because now there's a squad of creepers charging after me. And you know, in hindsight, I really should've seen the warning signs before turning that corner. Like the lack of torches, gaping holes in the walls, cobblestone blocks, and such.

"IM SORRY, ALRIGHT? I DIDN'T MEAN TO DISRUPT YOU." I shriek, shivers running down my spine as the soft tapping of footsteps follow behind me.

As I make a mad dash back towards the exit, I glance angrily at my gem.

"Y'know, I could really use your help right about now!" I yell, poking at it.

But to no avail. All that's changed with my stupid gem is that two of the five ribbons of light have gotten a little brighter. Which, speaking of brighter, the edges of the cave begin to widen, and more and more torchlight is being replaced by natural daylight. I burst out into the open, not daring to look back. If I had missed a way up from here before, now would be a really good time to find it. I think, my heart pounding painfully loud in my head. With a horde of creeper behind me, a lake of lava in front of me, and impossibly steep cliffs on either side, it takes everything in my willpower to keep myself from hyperventilating and fainting. My eyes quickly sweep up and down the sides of the ravine, looking for anything to let me out of this prison. There.

Just to my right, there's a ledge on the edge of the cliff. It's nowhere near far enough to get me to the top of the ravine, but maybe, if I can get a running start, I'll be able to jump up there and get away from these creepers. Then at least I'll be safe for the time being.

"Here goes nothing." I huff through clenched teeth, digging my foot into the stony ground and pushing forward with all my might.

I run, leap, and stretch out my arms to grab the ledge. As I turns out, in normal cases, there's if have a better chance as building a snowman in the Nether than reaching that ledge. But then my gem finally decides to pitch in, and my arms are flying out like pieces of stretchy spaghetti. Acting with a mind of their own, they grip onto the ledge, and in a flash I'm hauling myself up and away from the creepers. And not a second too soon. For when I spin around, the creepers are all at the base of the ledge, hissing and stamping angrily. But I'm to bewildered to care.

"I was not expecting that." I exclaim, staring at my arms like they've suddenly turned purple. "I wonder if I can make them do it again?"

Concentrating, I look to the lip of the ravine, hoping that somehow my arms will stretch like a rubber band again and get me out of here. And though I do end up back up and safe out of the ravine, it's not in the way I was expecting. This time, my legs pretty much quintupled in length, boosting me up at an alarming speed. I let out an uncertain noise of fear, wobbling and tilting dangerously, unaccustomed to the feeling of having giant legs. But thankfully I pull myself over the edge, before I can topple back down to my death.

"It's like I've become a rubber band or something!" I mumble, quivering at the odd feeling of my legs retracting to their normal size.

Hesitantly, I rise to my feet, and peek over the edge of the ravine. The creepers-who I just noticed have unnaturally white eyes-hiss once more together in annoyance, before turning and stalking off to the depths of the cave. Well I'm not complaining. I shrug, stepping back, and glancing at my body with newfound curiosity. I wonder what else I can do with this...

Question of the chapter:

This chapter was a little rushed, because I didn't have any good ideas. I hope it's okay... But anyways.

Did any of you guess Lachlan's power right? Let me know :3
