-Matthew has actually attempted suicide before.

-He began to have suicidal thoughts at 18.

-He always visited Monty at prison every day, after every soccer game.

-He started cutting following Monty's death, blaming himself for making Monty taking care of him while robbing himself of a normal life.

-He thinks it was his fault that Monty died, because Monty gave up his social life for him throughout his childhoodz spending more time protecting him and taking care of him rather than use his time to take care of himself.

-He used to look up to Monty as a kid, which made things even worse once he died.

-His original plan was that once Monty got out of prison, He was gonna introduce to him to his soccer teammates and go out for lunch and catch up on old times, but that never got to happen because he's dead.

-Matthew started to blame himself for being weak, thinking that because he was weak, Monty had to protect him all the time and thus died for it.

-He never told any of his teammates or his coach about his depression or his self harm attempts because he didn't want to make them a burden.

-One of his teammates, Angus found him self harming in the bathroom one day and found him cutting himself with a razorblade. He was shocked at what Matthew was trying to do and stopped him before he could go further. (Angus was there because he accidentally left something while hanging out with the rest and found Mathew with those cuts.)

-Angus told him that he has to tell the coach and the other teammates about this, At first, Matthew didn't want to because he doesn't want any of them to worry and make himself a burden but after some time, He realized he couldn't hide it any longer and decided to tell them.

-After he told them, they were all heartbroken to see their fellow teammate so broken in his already state and they all agree to help him get therapy. (Including the coach, who told Matthew to take a break from the game to take care of his mental health. He accepted it and decided to leave the team for a while to take care of his mental health for a while.)

-He never told Roy, Tyler, River or any of his friends about his self-harm attempts. But he plans on doing so one day.

-He's worried about telling River about his self-harming problem because he knows that River looks up to him like an older brother figure and is afraid of his reaction.
