Why Goku is my Favorite Character

Son Goku. The man who has basically done it all. Became the greatest martial artists in the world, took down evil organizations, fought demons, accepted his heritage, and become a literal "God". Yet, the man is considered to be the most static character in quite possibly manga and anime history. He is the same person he was in chapter 1 that he is in chapter 519. However, he is not a character without development.

Goku starts out his life as more innocent, naive, and boastful child who didn't know anything about the world. However, as the years went on, he grew. He became more mature, understanding, and merciful. Yes, he may be the same overall from day one, but is that really a bad thing?

What makes Goku an interesting character, to me is his "lack of character development". Him starting out and consistently being the "perfect person" in terms of attitude and behavior is the catalyst for the character development of quite literally every character in the series. Think about it. Every character who has been deemed as a "well-developed character" throughout Dragon Ball wouldn't have gone through that change if they hadn't encountered Goku. Vegeta would still be evil along with Tien, Piccolo, and Yamcha. Krillin would be too naive and arrogant. Gohan and even Trunks could quite literally never have existed. Take out Goku and Beerus would be an average God of Destruction, Majin Buu would still be out there, destroying worlds, and so much more. What a lot of people in and outside of the fandom don't understand is that Dragon Ball isn't the story of a bunch of guys fighting, but rather the story of a man and how his actions shape the very world he lives in.

That's why I love Goku as a character.
