-Elizabeth-

Pearl had died.

I didn't want to hear it, but my mom told me, "Pear is plucking feathers!"

I brought him over to the scale and watched as the numbers went up from zero to one hundred!

Wait, no. There's no way that's true. Although he usually weighs around low ninety grams, perhaps he began to live a more sedentary lifestyle without Pearl?

"Bluey, can you help bring Pear back to normal? You two sleep in the same cage, so I'm sure you know what has been going on with him these past few months."

As he flew back to the cage, he found Pear climbing on it and just sitting there.

In spite of this, he bit Bluey when he attempted to preen Pear!

"I think it's the right time to get him a new girlfriend as he had been single for a while due to the tragedy," my mom explained.

My brother used to say it wasn't morally right to do so, but that was a long time ago when Pear hadn't changed yet.

We went to Omar's Exotic Birds and saw a delightful coconut-like baby cockatiel, who was two weeks old. As they were young, we didn't know whether it was a female or male without doing a DNA test. It is obvious that we could, but we could put it off. If it was a female, great! If it was a male, also great!

He also brought Pear along in his backpack, so we let him examine it. I actually believed she was a female though and named her Mika.

Suddenly, Pear jumped with his crest held high, confusing her!

Her feathers didn't grow out completely though, and her crest was definitely much more different than Pear's. He then stared at her and started to sing, letting us know that we had made the right choice.

We got her with our names down, though she was still needing the formula and training to eat millet, so they would call us sometime in April.

-Bluey-

"Bluey, can you help bring Pear back to normal? You two sleep in the same cage, so I'm sure you know what has been going on with him these past few months."

I do.

I flew to him and opened my beak slightly to gently grab a feather.

BITE

"Ow, what are you doing?" I asked.

"I know you're trying to help, but it's no use. You are nothing like Pearl. If she comes back, I'll come back, too."

He was correct. I wasn't a cockatiel nor female! If I was, he would accept me.

"I think it's the right time to get him a new girlfriend as he had been single for a while due to the tragedy," my grandma said.

The humans brought him somewhere without me, but it was his birthday after all. Last year, he was so happy, but it could be the complete opposite this year.

I did hope that he would find true love this time around though.

-Pear-

"Bluey, can you help bring Pear back to normal? You two sleep in the same cage, so I'm sure you know what has been going on with him these past few months."

When Bluey opened his beak though, I opened mine and pecked him with it.

"Ow, what are you doing?"

"I know you're trying to help, but it's no use. You are nothing like Pearl. If she comes back, I'll come back, too."

Why oh why couldn't Pearl just live three months longer to be here with me this day? Bluey was cool and all, but it still wasn't the same without her.

"I think it's the right time to get him a new girlfriend as he had been single for a while due to the tragedy."

Well..., maybe this new bird can help take my pain away?

I obediently followed them and went to Omar's Exotic Birds.

I was like a raw egg! I look somewhat tough on the outside but actually have an emotionally soft and malleable heart on the inside. Someone had already broken it in half, so I knew it would never be the exact same as before no matter what I do or what happened next.

They then showed me a white and black striped cockatiel, kind of like a zebra, whose crest looked like a porcupine!

One important detail I wanted to point at was how large her eyes were. To be exact, they were way bigger than mine! They were so shiny that I did not even realize it could have been possible!

Yes, I felt a wave of guilt brushing past me because this was where Pearl came from, but I was certain she wouldn't enjoy watching me suffer. I mean, it wasn't as if I was forgetting about her. That would be impossible from all the wonderful memories we had made!

What else has to change?

A/N:

This was a very tough decision to make...; if you guys don't know who Bluey, Pear, and Pearl are, sections 1, 2, and 4 of "Oh My Bird (ongoing)" will tell you. There's a song at the beginning of the chapter, so go listen to it :) Who else is excited for Mika to come home?

What do you guys think about this chapter!

Thank you for reading! Comment, vote, and share for all three birds to be nice to each other when they meet! Here are three presents:
