Anthony Stark was in no mood to talk to any person in that hospital.

Why would he be? Both of his parents just died in a car accident. If it was just one of his parents, it'd be a different story. But both of them were gone.

The 20-year old stared aimlessly through the window that separated the hallway from the new born babies in the mini-cribs. He watched a nurse carefully put a baby boy into another rolling crib to be taken to his mother, and walk out the door and past him, leaving another nurse by herself to take care of all 9 remaining new born babies.

That was when she noticed him. She smiled at him and waved, then picked up a boy and started to feed him a bottle of formula.

"You a new parent?" Someone asked from behind him, making him jump.

"What? Oh, no. I'm not. I'm just... waiting on my parents..." He said to the nurse.

"Oooh." They went silent.

A male nurse wheeled in another girl, spoke to the the nurse that was already in the room, then left. He whispered something in the nurse's ear, then she frowned. "Really?"

The male nurse nodded, and left to talk to a doctor.

Then she perked up with a smile. "My turn in there's coming up next. You wanna help?"

"What? Me?" Tony asked, his eyes widening. "I don't know the first thing about feeding a kid."

"Don't worry, I'll teach ya. It's really not that hard."

Tony just shrugged. What else did he have to do? Nothing. He didn't even know if he was allowed back inside his parents' house.

The nurse just smiled, grabbed his wrist and led him to the door to the nursery. She opened the door; the first nurse in there was laying the boy back in his crib.

"Who's he?" She asked at the sight of Tony.

"A, uh, intern." The nurse in front of Tony lied. "He was sent over by, uh, Harvard. Training to get his nursing degree. Isn't that right, David?"

I took Tony to figure out what she was doing. The it hit him. "Oh! Right, yeah!"

The first nurse raised an eyebrow, but simply shrugged and clocked out of the nursery.

Then she pulled him into the room and closed the door, and sighed.

"David?" Tony asked.

"Hey. First name that came into my head. You better change. There's some men's scrubs in the bathroom. And you go by David until you leave here, got it?"

Tony raised both his hands, "Yes, ma'am." and he spun around on his heel and speed walked into the bathroom to change.

When he came back out, he was in light blue scrubs and white sneakers.

"Oh, good. They fit." The nurse said, prepping a bottle of formula.

Tony just shrugged. "So, how am I doing this?"

"Well, first you've gotta sit in the rocking chair."

He looked at her in a weird way, but sat down.

The nurse shook the bottle a little, then moved to a crib and gently lifted a baby girl with tan skin (that was almost the same color as Tony's) up and carefully cradled her in her arms. Then she walked up to Tony, and carefully placed her in his arms. He had to cross his right leg to make it more comfortable.

"Keep her head cradled. There ya go." The nurse handed him the bottle and showed him how to hold it for the baby. He had it down right then and there.

"You're a natural at this!" The nurse said with a smile. "And she seems to really like you, too."

"You think so?" Tony asked, shifting his hand a little.

"Yeah. Normally the babies are squirmy when we feed them for the first time. She's not squirming. She feels comfortable with you."

'That's a first.' Tony thought.

The phone rang, and the nurse ran to answer. "Nursery, this is Hailey."

The baby moved her leg, and the blanket she was wrapped in came undone on the bottom. As Tony went to fix it, he noticed the bracelet around her ankle. Out of curiosity, he looked at the tag. There was no name on it, except her gender was written on it.

Hailey hung up the phone and returned her attention to Tony and the infant.

"Why isn't there a name on her tag?" Tony asked, looking up from the baby to the nurse.

Hailey bit her lip. "She doesn't have a name. She's a, uh... She's an unwanted. She's going to be transfered to an orphanage in about a week."

"Her parents didn't want her?"

"You could say that."

Right at that second, a woman with black hair threw herself against the window in tears, making Tony jump and almost drop the bottle. "My baby! Give me back my baby!" The man next to her pried her off with no emotion on his face and dragged the woman away, who was now crying so hard she couldn't breathe.

There was a long stretch of awkward and unsettling silence in the room. Tony didn't take his eyes away from the window, the event that just happened replaying over and over in his big brain.

"Tony? Hello?" Hailey waved her hand in front of his face. "Anybody home?"

He snapped out of his thoughts. "Huh?"

"The bottle's empty, man."

"Oh." He gave her the bottle and returned his attention to the baby girl in his arms.

She grabbed his thumb with her small hand and smiled at him. It made Tony laugh for the first time in 3 hours.

"She trusts you, Tony. That's what it means when a baby does that."

He didn't say anything, but instead he started to rock the chair a little.

Hailey had a small smile. "You think you would adopt her?"

"Adopt her? Are you crazy? I'm only 20!"

"Well would you at least consider it? It seems like you two are a perfect pair."

"I dunno. She sure is cute, though."

Hailey smiled big. "I know that look."

"What?"

"The look on your face. I see it all the time. You wanna adopt her!"

"What? No..."

"Yes you do! Don't lie."

A smile slowly crept across Tony's face. "Okay! I do."

"What're you gonna name her?"

"Name?"

"Yeah. You can't call her girl. That'd be ridiculous."

"I don't know..." Every name he's ever heard in his entire life was scrolling through his head.

"I got it. Tayla. Tayla Louise."

Hailey ran to the phone and dialed at a fast pace.
"Hey, Tom... Yeah... I'm good. You heard about that unwanted that just got up here?... Taken... Yes! Really!... I know it is!... Yeah, see ya in a few."

Then she whirled around to Tony. "Once Tom gets up here, I'm taking you to Baby Boot Camp."

As if on cue, a man who was partially bald came into the room with a stack of papers that Tony filled out top to bottom, front to back.

Then Hailey walked him through feeding, napping, proper dressing during the cold season, baby carriers (Thank God they had one a family left behind when the woman had a miscarriage), cribs, basically Baby 101.

Then it was official. Anthony Edward Stark was officially a crazy man. Out of the blue, he decided to adopt a baby. And he couldn't be any happier.

Then the happiness went away for a moment when he was asked to sign off on his parents' bodies. He did, and they were moved to the morgue until they were going to be picked up for a burial.

To get it off his mind, Hailey took Tony down to the vehicle waiting outside for him to show him how to place a carrier holder in a car seat and which way the carrier is supposed to go.

He got it right, and just as he stood up, the same black haired woman jumped on him, grabbing his shirt with tears streaming down her face. "Please don't take my baby! Please!"

The man pulled her off of Tony, and dragged her to a car, and shoved her inside. "She's not yo kid, Marie!" And he slammed and locked door with that. Then he walked up to Tony, wiping his forehead.

"Sorry bout my wife. She don't understand that we can't keep the kid." He explained.

"How come?" Tony asked.

"She blew all our savings for a kid on shoes, thinkin we'd have enough left over for the actual baby room."

"That's really low."

"Yeah. I told her not to touch the bank. What does she do? She breaks the damn thing and spends every last penny."

"I'm sorry bout that man."

"Saw you in there. Could tell the little tike trusts ya. Figured she was goin' to a good place."

"I'm glad you think of me that way, man." Tony patted his arm.

"What'd you name her?"

"Tayla Louise."

"That's a name for a cutie like her. And my mother's name was Louise."

"Really?"

"Yeah."

They were silent.

"Well, good luck, man. You're a lucky guy."

"Thanks. You too."

And with that the man left, got in the driver seat of the car, and drove out of the parking lot with his wife trying to take control of the wheel, waving at Tony before driving out of sight.

Tony got in the driver seat of the car, turned around to look at the baby Tayla before starting the car.

"Sure hope Walmart's open at 7A.M., Princess." He said, smiling at her.

She just cooed at his voice.

He started the car, and slowly pulled out of the hospital parking lot and for the Walmart 3 blocks down.
