Grace's POV:

It's been a week since our gig and I've been on cloud nine. The band has been practicing everyday when we get home from school and we're doing amazing. I'm so excited for our next gig. Right now I'm in my room.

I woke up early so I got dressed and started working on a new song for us. "Whoa, what is that? I haven't heard that one before." Luke says. "Ah! Seriously? I thought we talked about you doing that weeks ago." I say, smiling. "We did, but it's still fun. Now, song, explain." He says.

"It's nothing. I do still write songs for myself you know." "Really? Why?" "It calms me." "Oh? What are you so nervous about?" "I have to do a dance today. I don't usually dance in front of people. Well, that kind of dancing." I say. "Really, why? I bet you're great." He says.

"Thanks, but you've never seen me dance." "Oh yeah? Well maybe I'll pop in today and watch." "Don't you dare. I'm nervous enough as if." "Nah, you'll be fine." "GRACIE! COME ON! WE HAVE TO GO!" Julie yells. I sigh and put my guitar to the side. "Gotta go, see you later."

He smiles at me and poofs out. Sighing I grab my backpack and head downstairs. "Ready?" I ask. She nods and we take off. On the way Julie tells me about the party dad's letting us throw. When we get to school I can't focus on anything but the dance. I'm so nervous I'm gonna mess up.

Right now I'm changing into my black dress and heels when I realize I left the music I borrowed from the teacher in my locker. "I'll be right back guys. I have to go get something." I tell Julie and Flynn. They nod and I head towards my locker.

When I get there I rummage around till I find the disk. Once I have it I close my locker door only to find Luke on the other side. "Normal people don't do that and ghosts defiantly shouldn't." I say, getting over the scare. He doesn't say anything, just looks at me.

I realize I'm not in what I wold normally wear. "Oh, yeah, I'm about to do the dance." I say. That snaps him out of it. "You look good. Anyways, we need to talk about what song we're gonna play tonight. I'm thinking, Great?" He asks. Some people pass me in the hallways and I wave.

"One second." I say. I reach back into my locker and pull out my phone. "Your just gonna take a phone call while we're talking? You know how rude that is?" He asks. "Hey, thanks for calling or else people might think I'm talking to myself." I say, grinning. Realization dawns on him.

"Right. Nice." "No, but yeah, I think Great is a...great choice." I say, smiling. "Sweet. Well, that's what I pretty much wanted to talk to you about so..." He trails. "Oh, ok." "No wait, there is one more thing I wanted to talk to you about.

I know I'm not the easiest person to work with, but I think you make me a better writer." He says. I blush and stare into his eyes. "I think we make each other better." He grins at this. "You know what? Why don't you just skip school today, grab Julie and let's go rehearse." He says.

"What. No. Julie and I promised our dad school first." I remind him. "Right, you're at school first, now you're leaving to go rehearse. Come on, I can't do this without you. And Julie." He says. I roll my eyes. "I can't. I told Nick I'd be his dance partner." I say.

His face falls for a second before going back to it's normal grin. "Hey, Grace." "And here he is now, gotta go, bye." I say, 'hanging up' my phone. "Hey." He says, grinning. "Well don't you look sharp." Luke teases. It takes all my willpower to not roll my eyes.

"You ready for our big performance?" Nick asks. "Yeah, I am. We're gonna do great." I say, grinning, trying not to look at Luke. "I'm glad you're confident. Even after three classes, I still think I got worse. It's a good thing I got my secret weapon." He says. Luke's eyes widen.

"Uh-oh. Looks like someone has a crush on Grace." He teases. "Shut up." I say. Nick gives me a confused look. "Oh, I mean, shut up." I say in a 'you'll be fine' tone. Luke is just grinning now. He's having way too much fun with this.

"No, seriously Molina, I'm nothing without you. You're the best dancer in the class and I'm probably the worst." He says. Luke is now mimicking him. "You'll be fine. See you in there." I say, shoving him playfully through Luke.

"Yeah, uh, I'll be the one in there trying to make us not look stupid." He say, walking off, Luke mimicking him the whole time. Luke walks back towards me. "Well he is just too cute." He says. "Seriously? You know what, never mind. I'll see you after school." I say, walking away.

"I guess we'll just have to carry you tonight, just like we always do." He says. I smile, but don't turn around or say anything. "I know you're smiling. Kill it on the dance floor! Might just have to come watch." He calls. I roll my eyes and make my way back into the gym.

Nick is waiting for me as I hand the disk to the teacher. I really hope Luke doesn't show up. Dang it. "Boys, whatever happens, leave it all out on the field." The coach says. We all mumble, confused.

"Breath in. Shake out your nerves. Surrender to the music and to your partner. Here we go." "I don't remember anything about surrendering." Nick says. "Don't worry, you'll be fine Luke." "Actually I'm Nick." My eyes widen.

"Right, sorry, I was thinking about something else, but now I'm focused and ready." I say. He grins and nods as we take our positions. Then the music goes on. It's awkward at first, but during the first turn something happens.

When I look in front of me, it's not Nick that's my partner, it's Luke. He's dressed in slacks, dress shoes, and a white button up. His hair is slicked back. I prefer it how it usually is. He then begins to sing.

Luke

Step into my world
Bittersweet love story bout a girl
Shook me to the core
Voice line an Angel
Never heard before

With that we make contact and everything falls into place.

Grace

Here in front of me
They're shining so much brighter
Than I have ever seen

Life can be so mean
But when he goes I know he doesn't leave

Both

The truth is finally breaking through
Two worlds collide when I'm with you

A voice is rising so so high
We come to life when we're

In perfect harmony

Whoa-oa-oa, whoa-oa-oa

Perfect harmony

Whoa-oa-oa, whoa-oa-oa

Grace

We say we're friends

Luke

We play pretend

Grace

You're more to me

Luke

We create

Grace

The perfect harmony

With that the music ends and I'm no longer in Luke's arms, I'm in Nicks. My eyes widen. "Wow, we nailed that. Thanks partner." He says. Then the bell rings. "I gotta go." I say before sprinting out of the gym towards the music room.

I sit at the piano and start playing the melody to On Purpose. I wrote that for Luke so long ago and I'm just now coming to terms with my feelings. "There you are, we've been looking all over for you. Why'd you run out of dance class so fast?" Flynn asks.

"I just needed a breather. It was pretty intense in there." I say. "Oh, we noticed." Julie says, grinning. "Dancing with the guy you've been crushing on for forever will do that to a girl." Flynn says. "Yeah, but the entire time we danced I imagined it was Luke." I say.

"First of all, called it. Second, I know you always want what you can't have, but Luke is next-level." Flynn says. "I know, and now I think Nick likes me. Nick!" I say, frustrated. "He totally does." Julie confirms. "But me and Luke just clicked, and he's so-"

"Not real. You can make all the music you want with Luke, but he'll always be a Phantom. So...here's what we're gonna do." Flynn says, grabbing my phone. Julie and I exchange nervous looks. What is she gonna do?

"Send Nick a nice little friendly text asking him to come to your party tonight." She says, showing me the text. "Are you sure?" I ask. I don't how I feel about this. It was bad enough having Luke in the halls while I was talking to him this morning.

"Of course. I'm not gonna let you get your heart broken. And trust me, tonight, you're performing with Luke, so the key is avoiding those big, beautiful, dead eyes." She tells me. "Someone's pushy today." Julie says. "Your welcome." Is all she says. We all laugh.

I can do this I can perform with Luke without looking into his eyes. I just have to avoid going over to him. Oh boy, this should be interesting.
