Shinjiro's POV

I'm back in Aki's hospital room, thinking about Miki's last words. "He'll understand it no matter what."  I knew she was right. He risked his life to safe his sister, like she did for him.

I hear coughing and look at Aki to see the his breathing mask was turning black. I call the doctor, and he tells me to take off Aki's breathing mask. I do as he says and Aki continues coughing. Instead of just the noise though, he's coughing black smoke. "I was afraid of this." the doctor says.

"What do you mean?" I ask

"He must have been like this in the fire for too long." The doctor answers, "There's too much carbon dioxide, and not enough oxygen in him. That's why the breathing mask was turning black."

"Is there anything you can do?" I ask.

"There is one way, but, it might hurt him more than it helps him." The doctor says, " Even though his sister wanted to do everything we could to save him..."

"If Miki wanted this, than do it." I say, "Miki sacrificed herself so that Aki could live."

"You're right," The doctor says, "The sacrifice would have meant nothing if he dies." The doctor starts taking off the bandages on Aki's head and takes a sample of the blood. He than quickly rewraps the bandages and tells me to make sure he stays stable.

Aki keeps coughing the smoke, so I check the drawers for a mask the doctors wear and put it on. "Come on Aki." I say, "You can get through this." Even as I say that, I get worried  because he doesn't stop.

The doctor comes rushing in with some sort of vaccine, and injects it into Aki. Aki's cough slowly gets better, until it's unsteady breathing. "Put his breathing mask back on." the doctor says. I do so and his breathing gets easier.

"What type of vaccine is that?" I ask astonished at how one dose saved Aki.

"Sometimes," The doctor says, "If a patient starts showing those symptoms after being in a fire, we can see how much carbon dioxide is in their blood and use and oxygen vaccine to counteract it. Thankfully, he didn't have a fatal amount of it in his system, then we wouldn't be able to help."

"Thank you." I say. He turns around and looks at me questionably. "If both of them died, I don't know what I'd do."

"I'm just doing my job." He replies modestly. "Truth be told, at first, I didn't want to be a doctor. I was playing with my friend while we were in middle school. He fainted, and I freaked out, but by the time he got to the hospital, he was already dead."

"When Aki was a baby, his parents died in a fire protecting him and his sister. Miki never told him how or why they died, but, she made a letter for him explaining everything about it  in case something happened to her before she could tell him the truth."
