ACT III

SCENE I

[Setting: CODY and QUINN are sitting at the stars of the abandoned shack. QUINN is on the lower stair, while CODY stays on top. The smaller boy is watching QUINN talk, but he gets distracted as worry fill his thoughts. The sun is setting as the evening gives way for the night.]

QUINN: CODY? Is something wrong?

CODY: (Blinks when he realizes that he's being called.)

CODY: (Looks down at QUINN before sighing.)

CODY: Sorry, I was just thinking... (Runs a hand through his hair.)

QUINN: (Sighs as he looks up at his boyfriend.) About what? (Holds on to CODY's thin leg that was in blue trousers.)

CODY: (Shrugs.) Stuff.

QUINN: What stuff.

CODY: (Sighs.) I don't know, stuff.

QUINN: (Sighs before getting up to join CODY on the top step.) Come on, talk to me, please?

CODY: (Smiles.) I don't know. I'm not sure how to put in in words. I'm worried.

QUINN: About what?

CODY: The future.

QUINN: What about the future?

CODY: About us. What happens after graduation? I'm been thinking about that for a couple of days—

QUINN: We'll still be dating. (Reaches out to hold CODY's hand.) Well, unless you break up with me out of nowhere. (Laughs.)

CODY: I don't think I'll be allowed to still stay at my house after graduation—

QUINN: (Hums.) Then just come stay with my family. They like you. We can share my room—

CODY: (Laughs.) I'm not sure I can just move into your house like that—

QUINN: (Laughs.) You can. (Smiles.)

Pause.

QUINN: And if you're not comfortable with that option I'll look for a place for myself and you can move in with me then.

CODY: (Laughs before covering his mouth with his palm.)

QUINN: What's funny? (Rests his head on CODY's shoulder.)

CODY: Nothing.

Pause.

CODY: How do you stay so optimistic? (Turns a bit before running a hand through QUINN's curly dark hair.)

QUINN: I don't know. I just am?

CODY: (Chuckles.)

[The two stayed like that for a while, and their conversation drifts to comics and QUINN's family. CODY looked down at his boyfriend who was resting on him, and soon QUINN raised his head before smiling at CODY.]

QUINN: Can I kiss you?

CODY: (Face reddens as he nods.)

QUINN: (Laughs.) You're so adorable.

QUINN: (Takes CODY's face in his arms before leaning in to press his lips against CODY's.)

QUINN: (Pulls away from the kiss before smiling at CODY.)

QUINN: I just want to kiss you all day, you know?

CODY: (Laughs awkwardly as he looks down at the bottom stair.)

CODY: I like to kiss you too, like a lot.

QUINN: (Stops laughing to look at CODY with a small smile.)

QUINN: (Taps CODY's shoulder.)

CODY: What. (Blinks in surprise when QUINN takes his face in his hands before pulling him for another kiss.)

CODY: (Sighs into kiss as he reaches out to hold on to QUINN's face.)

[The two kissed and held on to each other and kiss until the sun completely sets.]

[CODY's face still felt warm even when the two boys got up from the stairs and made to walk home together. They shared a kiss at the junction of CODY's street, and QUINN left right after with CODY waving him off.]
