5:31PM SATURDAY                                       7 DAYS TILL THE WORLD ENDS

Dry, arid, suffocating, miserable Virginia. It was suppose to be mid-winter. School had been cancelled for the past two weeks. It was impossible to think with the heat waves beating down on your head like a million tiny hammers. I personally don't think I've seen an ice cube in like ten years.

My name's Chloe Ester Dooley. A silly name i get that a lot. And when the life changing announcement came on i was outside on our roof counting the number of house that had spontaneously caught fire. so far zero. But with my best friend Jazzy's complaining it might have well been the entire block.

"It's SOOO HOT!" How can you stand it?!" Jazzy whined. "i've gotten sunburned just taking out the trash! And you haven't even burned yet!"

That's the funny thing. I'm possibly the palest softball player out there and even after spending the last ten minutes out here i wasn't even sweating. I don't reply to Jazzy

"Chloe! Please lets go in!" She begged "Boys will like you just because your the only girl not red as a tomato!" I looked at her thoughtfully. Before the average tempurature became 100, Jazzy was a swaggering dirty-blonde model with a perfect tan, amazing fashion sense and a surfeit of friends hanging off her every word. I'm kinda lucky to be her best friend. Yeah the Perfect and her nervous, friendless, softball star friend.

"All right." I sighed. I was getting bored anyway. How do people spend hours baking in the sun do absolutely nothing?

Just then my mom stuck her head out my rooms window. "Chloe Ester Dooley!" She cried "The heat must have given you two delusions if you guys are up on the rickety old roof!" You see, my mom had this idea that I'm going to collapse the roof or something that's going to kill all of us. I'm pretty sure if she had it her way I'd be going to school wrapped completely in bubble wrap.

"sorry Mom!" I called down to her. "We're coming in anyway." Jazzy made a point to cheer.

"Well hurry up! Dinner's ready. Get your brother, too, if you can." Then she was gone. I let Jazzy go down first. She grabbed hold of the the edge shingles and lowered herself till her feet hit the window sill. Then she shakily slid one foot into my room at a time, then her torso, then rest of her body. she took the longest time to do, too. It took me less than a third of the time to do it than it had taken her. Jazzy shook her head at me.

"I can't help wondering if you were an ape in another life."

"your just jealous!" I teased. "we better go. Mom's dinners aren't very good room temperature."  Jazzy laughed. I lead the way out of my unclean-but-not-messy room. Jazzy followed in her flouncy graceful walk. I don't know how but she has a total crush on my brother. It's totally disgusting.

"James." I said to his door. Sounds of his X-box game leaked through the door. "James!"

His door almost immediately slammed open. "What do you want?" He asked irritated. I guess maybe in some other world-no universe-he might be a little attractive. We share the light fluffy brown hair and unique fashion sense, but his eyes are aquamarine and he wears thick green glasses where as I just have brown eyes. I'm nothing special. Everyone says he acts more like a college professor than a nerdy no-life gamer, but I wouldn't know because he spends more time in his room than with his spactacular family.

"Hi James!" Jazzy giggled.

"Hi," He tried to come up with a name, "Jazzy." She squealed.

"Time for dinner." I said overlooking Jazzy's embarressment to herself. James looked surprised and checked his watch.

"So it is..." He took one glance at Jazzy. "You know i'm not all that hungry." He closed the door before I could say anything. James not hungry? Thats a joke. When he's not X-boxing he's eating EVERYTHING!!

Jazzy though was oblivous to this. "Did you hear? He knew my name! We are totally perfect for each other!" I just nodded. You keep dreaming Jazzy.

"Lets go get dinner." I said heading to the stairs.
