"Were you just staring at me?"

Her question caught him off guard. Feeling like a deer caught in headlights, he turned his face towards her slowly. He saw her pointing at herself, both eyebrows raised.

If she creates a scene, I'll be in trouble and no one will believe me. He thought.

He felt tensed. And scared. And she? She could see it and was enjoying it.

Stifling a smile, she asked him again acting her heart out, "Were you?"

He gulped and said, "I...No! of course not! I was just looking around," his hand gestured towards the whole metro.

"Really?" she asked him again.

"Yes!" he nodded his head profusely.

"Were you not-" and he saw a smile slowly making way to her lips as she continued,"-checking me out?"

The sudden change of events caught him off guard. He blinked twice. And a few more times, unable to comprehend what just happened. She raised her eyebrows comically about four times with a teasing smile. But all he could do was just stare at her.

"Tell me. Tell me. Tell me," she said. Leaning forward, she placed a hand beside her mouth and fake whispered, "I won't tell anyone."

Is she nuts? He furrowed his eyebrows.

"You think I'm cute?" she asked again with a teasing smile.

"No!" his sudden response surprised her.

She pouted a little bit as she asked him again, "You don't think I'm cute?"

She is cute. He thought.

But there in so way in hell I am going to tell her that.

She watched him sit and think. But that's all he did. He was not responding.

She merely stated," but you will find me cute later."

Receiving silence from him for further ten seconds she started talking again, "You don't talk much, do you?"

He turned his head to her and stared with a raised eyebrow.

"But you can nod your head! So, tell me," she continued, "do you not think I'm cute?"

What is wrong with this girl? He thought.

He furrowed his brows and ignored her. Turning his face towards the tracks, he pretended not to hear. She scoffed at his action and said, "Silence and attitude? How rude..."

She crossed her legs and folded her arms, looking away.

The two of them sat at the two ends of the single bench on a lonely platform, with folded arms, crossed legs and a stubborn soul.

Then he heard a noise. He turned towards her and saw something he didn't want to see.

He saw her unwrapping the covers of a subway sandwich. Slowly the bread and its various layers came into view, decorated with sesame seeds and various sauces in red, yellow, white. And his stomach growled.

Damn it. He thought.

"Did you say something?"

He was brought back to reality at her sudden question. He raised his eyes to meet hers, staring at him intently. That's when he realized that he was drooling at the sandwich.

"No." he shook his head and looked away.

"Oh. Right."

Suddenly with a raised volume she said to no one in particular, "Let the stomach speak for the mouth," she made fun of his hunger and shook the sandwich teasingly.

Rolling his eyes, he crossed his arms, put one leg over the other and faced the other way. She, on the other hand, was all ready to eat her hot meaty sandwich when suddenly another cry from his stomach caught her attention. While he still faced the other side, ignoring her, she felt a little bad.

"Hey," she called out to him, "would you like a bite?"

He turned towards her, annoyance evident on his face, and said," no thanks."

She nodded her head quietly. But then he said," For all I know there could be something mixed in it. And when I'd be drugged, you could rob or even kill me."

"Ugh!" her jaw dropped.

"Fine. Whatever," she said as she turned towards the other side, "this is what I get for being nice."

They sat in silence for about five seconds. And then, he suddenly stood up.

Eyes wide, she watched him as he threw his heavy bag over his shoulders and walked away dragging his trolley behind.

"Whatever," she shrugged her shoulders.
