EP.156|Lightning Strikes Not Once, Not Twice, but Three Times

Zeref stood at the entrance to the underworld. He felt worried, normally, Pain and Panic would meet him at the entrance, but nothing.

I don't like this… Zeref slowly walked into the entrance and was brought to the doors of Hades’ mansion. A loud roar shook the ground he walked on, he looked up to see his pet Cerberus growling at him.

“Cerby!” Zeref hugged his three headed dog, the dogs licked his face happily, “yes, yes, I miss you too.” Zeref laughed.

“Where’s mom and dad?” Cerberus began whimpering. “Cerby, what happened?” Cerberus pointed to the door, Zeref still had a sinking feeling in his stomach.

He opened the door to see everything had scorch marks on it or was turned to ash. He examined the chairs by the fireplace, it was broken.

He went upstairs to see a long hallway with 3 rooms. His parents room, his room, and one at the end of the hallway. His little sister, Lycia, room.

Lycia...where are you. Zeref frowned, and just like that, memories of his little sister came flooding back to him.

6 year old Zeref looked at Persephone’s stomach suspiciously, he didn't understand the whole “baby” and “pregnant” concept yet.

“So, there’s a baby in there?” Zeref poked her stomach making Persephone laugh. She nodded “she’s gonna be your baby sister.”

“How?” Zeref asked. “Because, when a mommy and dad love each other-” Persephone covered Pain and Panic mouths “I’ll explain when you’re older.” Hades chuckled.

“Since you were born first, you’re the oldest, and the baby in mommy’s stomach is your little sister because she was born 2nd.” Persephone explained.

Zeref then felt the baby kick, he quickly backed up “what was that?” “it’s your sister’s way of talking to you, try talking to her.”

“Um...hi, I’m your brother...I can't wait to meet you. I’m gonna show you all the cool stuff, and teach you magic! Oh, and you can help me prank everyone. And you can meet Cerby, he’s just a baby but he’s cool!”

A few months later, Zeref’s little sister, Lycia, was finally born. “Do you wanna carry her, Zeref?” he nodded, Persephone passed the baby girl to him.

“Hey, Lycia, I’m your big brother,” Lycia raised her little hands, reaching up for Zeref. “Don't worry, Lycia, I’ll keep you safe.”

Years later, Zeref was now 12 and Lycia was 6, Zeref woke up one night to a light shaking. “Zeref, hey wake up.” Lycia whispered. “Not now, Lycia, it’s too early.” Zeref turned away from Lycia.

“Please! You promised me that you would take me to see the mermaids.” Lycia got on top of him, shaking him more. “In the morning Lycia.” Zeref yawned, trying to go back to sleep.

“But they’re leaving in the morning,” Lycia kept shaking him “they won't be back until next fall, this is our last chance to see them!”

Zeref sighed and smiled, his sister was so persistent “alright, let’s go, but we have to be back by sunrise. Okay?” Lycia nodded, filling up with excitement.

Zeref put on his shoes and sneaked down the stairs and into the living room to see Pain and Panic “where are you going?” Panic asked. “Nowhere…” Lycia’s voice went up in octaves.

Pain scoffed “lies,” he folded his arms over his chest “master Hades doesn't want you and Lycia out at night, especially with everything that's ben happening with The Masked Devil.”

“We’re just gonna go see the mermaids before they leave for their migration, we’ll be back by sunrise.” Zeref assured the two small demons.

“B-But wha-what if something happens?” Panic stuttered. “Do you wanna come with us to make sure we don't die?” Lycia rolled her eyes.

They both nodded “only for protection.” Pain and Panic stood at attention like soldiers. Zeref and Lycia laughed, the four left the mansion, walking through the Spring Forest.

“Are we there yet?” Lycia asked, being carried on Zeref’s back. “Yep.” Zeref put down Lycia so she could take in the view.

It was a tropical and nearly hidden rock pool of dark blue water. It contains a little waterfall where the mermaids bathe under and a large rock in the middle of the pool where the mermaids recline and pamper themselves.

“This is amazing!” Lycia’s eyes glistened. “I want you to meet someone,” Zeref waved his hand high in the air “Nerissa!” a beautiful mermaid swam over.

She had dark skin, long silver hair and silver eyes. She wore a pink crop top and has a beautiful green tail.

“Zeref!” she gave him a fist bump “how’s it hanging?” Zeref smiled. “I’m good, this is my little sis Lycia, she wanted to see you before you leave for the migration.” Lycia waved her hand.

“You’re Lycia, the mermaids told me that Persephone and Hades had a new kid. She’s so pretty!” Nerissa gushed. She then took off her seashell necklace and gave it to her “have this.”

Lycia smiled “thank you, um, Miss Nerissa, how long is the migration?” Lycia asked.

“Well, it’s a really long swim, but we have breaks in between.” Nerissa explained. “Why are you migrating?” Lycia questioned.

“Well, us mermaids are like butterflies, we fly away for the winter to warmer place like the Spring Forest, Hotspot Cove, or the Sirens Bay,” Nerissa sighed. “What’s wrong Nessy?” Zeref asked.

“The girl I like is at the Hotspot Cove, I wanted to go but my parents wanted to stay in the Spring Forest for stupid family reasons!” Nerissa groaned, “according to some of the mermaids home she’s back at the main land already so I wanna hurry up and get back to her!”

“Why don't you leave now? I think my dad has a map back at the house! I’ll go get it.” Lycia rushed home. “Lycia wait! You don't know the way home!” Zeref called out. “It’s fine Zerey! I’ll be back, don't worry.” Lycia assured him.

Little did he know, those were the last words he would ever hear from his loving sister.

Soon, Lycia got lost in the woods “Zerey...mommy? Daddy? Where are you?!” Lycia cried. “Are you lost, my dear?” Lycia turned around to see a girl that had spiky black hair and a black leather jacket.

She wore a silver circlet on her head like a princess's tiara, which didn't match her lightning earrings or her Death to Mortals T-shirt showing a little human head with an arrow through its head.

“Thalia...Thalia…” Lycia stuttered. “Hi Lycia, are you lost?” Thalia asked sweetly.

“N-No, my brother says not to talk to you after he-” “he rejected and broke my heart? Yeah, but I’ve changed.” she didn't, but Lycia didn't know that.

“Here,” Thalia opened a portal and Araden stepped out “he’ll show you to your mom and dad.” “and Zerey too right?” Thalia rolled her eyes “yes, Zerey too.”

Araden smiled at her “I’m Araden.” “are you a friend of mommy and daddy?” Lycia asked innocently. “Sure, let’s go with that.” Thalia knew he was lying, this was part of their plan and Thalia was loving every sick minute of it.

“Come on, let’s go.” Araden lead Lycia into the portal not before Thalia took off Lycia’s necklace, placing it on the ground.

You break my heart, I take your sister. Thalia smirked, she would finally get her revenge on Zeref, and man was it sweet.

Zeref snapped out of his thoughts and grabbed the shell necklace off the altar and into his pocket.

Zeref walked back downstairs. Soon he reached the bar, it looked similar to MacLaren's Pub in Zuo Island, with lots of beer and wine bottles to next to each other on a shelf behind the counter with many glasses lined up below the counter.

Zeref jumped over the counter and headed into the back kitchen. He walked around the cupboard and shelves filled with food and utensils, when he suddenly heard a crash.

He quickly sent a bolt of lightning towards the sound, but it hit nothing but shelves, sending food to the ground.

“That’s a waste of food, Zerzey.”

Zeref quickly turned his head at the familiar voice. It’s Lycia, but it wasn’t his Little Lycia. She looked older now, about 18. Lycia is a well-endowed female with long, flowing, wavy white hair with an elegant, loosely tied knot at the back.

Lycia wore a very provocative outfit comprising of a revealing, halter-type armor breastplate top, that leaves much of her cleavage and stomach exposed.

She had light-armored gauntlets and greaves on her forearms and forelegs, respectively, as well as her thighs.

She also wears a dark bikini bottom with a piece of cloth obscuring her hips. She wears a dark scarf around her neck.

“So, how long has it been Zerzey? 12 years since the day I left, you didn't even search for me! You, mom, dad! You all forgot about me!” Lycia yelled, she didn't have the usual happy spark in her eyes. It was almost like someone sucked the happiness from her.

“We didn't! We spent years searching for you!” Zeref tried to hug her but Lycia pushed him away.

“Don't listen to him, my dear Lycia,” Thalia said, appearing from the shadows “he lies, they never searched for you.” it seemed Lycia only listened to Thalia’s words.

“Now, go on Lycia, kill him.” Thalia said, pointed at Zeref. “Yes, Mistress Thalia.” she said with no tone in her voice at all.

“Evil Explosion!” A powerful stream of chaos magi hurdled towards him as Zeref swiftly dodged it. “Lycia, if you can hear me, I don't want to fight you, please.” he begged, dodging another attack she sent towards him.

“She doesn't remember who you are. She only answers to me.” Thalia smirked, sitting on Hades’s throne, filing her nails with a thunderbolt. She’s really getting on my nerves! Zeref growled.

“Now, let’s get this show on the road. Kick his ass, Lyly” when he said that, Zeref’s blood started boiling within him and he could feel his muscles start to grow in size. Soon, there were storm marks up and down his arms.

Zeref sent a storm bolt towards Thalia’s direction but Lycia acted like a lightning rod, blocking the attack from hitting Thalia. She sent another attack towards Zeref, but this time, he let it hit him.

“There’s no point of doing that Lycia. I use Storm Magi, it has no effect on me.” Zeref boasted a bit, Zeref saw her smirk and his stomach dropped.

“Curse 1: Set!” soon, her body started glowing a bright yellow. Zeref was confused at first, but then he started feeling weaker. He soon fell to one knee, still confused.

“She’s stealing your power, one of her ten curses Araden bestowed on her. But the tenth one, you’ll just be a pile of ashes.” Thalia ruffled Lycia’s hair, kissing her cheek.

“White Storm Roar!” one of his own attacks was sent toward him and Zeref didn't have enough energy to move out of the way in time, allowing the attack to hit him.

He grunted as his back hit the wall of the mansion, he squeezed his eyes shut as pain shot up his body. “Curse 2: Lightning Body!” Zeref watched as Lycia’s body turned into lightning and she zoomed towards him.

He used whatever remaining power he hand to maneuver himself around the room, turning into a storm cloud. As the two began to chase each other around the room, Zeref tried to speed up but he just couldn't.

She soon grabbed him by the arm, squeezing her nails into her skin and punching him right in the face. Her eyes gleamed with pure evil. She smiled devilishly and pushed him to the ground.

Zeref felt his power restoring, ever so slowly “curse 3: canon!” Zeref watched as a ball of lightning formed in his little sister’s hand, shooting it at Zeref, immobilizing him.

And there Zeref laid, on the ground, unable to save his little sister from the curse that controlled her. Lycia didn't seem to mind though. He completely lost track of what curse number she was one. She had cast a flower, a spear, a bird, and a troll.

“Final Cruse: Rajin’s Drums!”

Despite them hurting, he opened his eyes. Thalia said that I would be dead by the last spell. I need to move. NOW! Zeref stood up and started walking slowly towards her. He watched as she started summoning lightning bolts in her hand.

Her demonic eyes stalked him as he got closer. Soon, he was close enough to be zapped by the tremendous power of her lightning. Zeref ignored the pain and kept walking, soon, he stood right in front of her.

Zeref stared at her and tried to look for the Lycia he knew, the Lycia that would always wake him up early to watch the sunrise and eat pancakes.

The Lycia that would play games with him. The Lycia that would climb trees and scare Zeref half to death thinking she would fall.

That Lycia, his little Lyly, his little sister. She had to be back there somewhere.

Zeref grabbed onto her shoulder, despite the pain he felt from getting shocked by his own power. “Lycia,” he pleaded, she remained still and stopped summoning the powerful curse but her face was directly in front of his.

“Fight Lycia, fight for me.” Zeref whispered, something flickered in her eyes for a split second, however, it disappeared. She continued the summoning spell, making Zeref take things to the extreme.

Zeref placed the shell necklace on Lycia, she dropped to the ground. Zeref could see the curse lifting off of Lycia. Zeref smiled, holding his little sister in his arms. “Zerzey?” Lycia started crying.

“Hey Lyly.” Zeref started tearing up. “Zerzey!!” Lycia tackled him in a hug “I miss you, and mom, and dad, and pain, and panic!” Lycia cried in his shoulder. “I missed you too Lycia!”

“You imbeciles! Araden said this curse wasn’t gonna wear off!” Thalia yelled. “Well, ya thought wrong.” Lycia struggled to stand up, her legs wobbling as she tried standing up right.

“I had you under my control for 12 years! And now your stupid brother came and ruined everything!” Thalia angrily launched the lightning bolt at Lycia, Zeref quickly shielded her from it, they both closed their eyes tight.

Once they opened them again, Zeref saw Hades and Persephone created a barrier around them. “Mom! Dad!” happy tears streamed down Lycia’s face. “We’d knew you come back Lyly.” Hades smiled.

“Oh great! Now the entire family is here!” Thalia groaned. “Thalia, what a nice surprise, where’s your little jolteon of a dad.” Persephone smirked. “Why do you need to know?!” Thalia scolded.

“Why are you even here, Thalia?” Hades asked, Thalia walked towards him, another lightning bolt forming in her hand.

“I want the Skull Key.” Thalia said, Zeref and Lycia were confused. “What’s the Skull Key?” Zeref questioned.

“You know that door in the basement, the one with the black skull on it with the big lock and chains around it,” Zeref and Lycia nodded, “that’s the vault of bad souls, it contains the world's worst souls, me and your father were in charge of keeping it close.”

“That’s why we have this key.” Hades took out the key, which was on a string around his neck, from underneath his shirt. It was a black key in the form of a skull.

“And that’s what I want.” Thalia said, launching another thunderbolt towards him, but the barrier blocked it. Zeref looked at Lycia, she was pale and shaking, her magi was low.

“Mom, dad, take Lycia to a healer. I’ll deal with Thalia.” Zeref cracked his knuckles. “I’m not leaving you, Zeref.” Lycia stated.

“If you stay here there’s a chance of you getting under a curse again,” Zeref warned her, “Lycia, I already lost you one, I’m not losing you again.” Lycia smiled softly. “Gods and goddesses, you’re so stubborn.”

Hades, Persephone, and Lycia hugged Zeref “kick her ass, Zerzey.” Zeref watched as his family left the underworld, leaving him and Thalia alone.

“The Skull Key isn't the only reason your here,” the storm marks returned on his arms “is it?”

Thalia chuckled “nope, I wanna win you back, Zeref.” Thalia had a weird look in her eye, it scared Zeref a bit.

“Are you kidding me? That’s what this is all about? Thalia, I’m already dating someone.” Zeref reminded her. “So, Tatiana already dealt with her.” little did Thalia know, Freddie was the one who dealt with Tatiana.

“What do you mean Tatiana dealt with her?!” the markings on Zeref’s arms started to glow, storm clouds developing in the sky.

Meanwhile, Freddie looked up at the sky, she gulped. I’ve never seen storm clouds this big, someone must have pissed him off.

“Calm down, Thunder Boy,” Thalia rolled his eyes “you’ll see what I mean soon enough.” Thalia walked closer towards him, her hand on his cheek “once she’s gone, we can be together forever.”

Zeref placed his hand on Thalia’s stomach, sending a powerful shock that made her flew backwards “I will never be with you,” Zeref scrunched up his fist “not after what you did to my sister.”

Thalia got up, dusting the remains of one of the 10 columns that held up the mansion, “you say that now, but soon you’ll realize you love me and not that stupid shadow girl.”

Zeref glared at her, lightning began striking down from the storm clouds, making Thalia jump back a bit “you’re going down, Thalia, once and for all.”

“We’ll see about that.” Thalia shot two bolts of electricity as she moves away. Zeref effortlessly blocked them, then throws a lighting boomerang. Thalia disappeared and Zeref’s weapon came back to its owner.

Thalia then appeared behind Zeref and unleashed a combo, then uppercuts Zeref in the air where she continues her assault.

Thalia then teleported and attacked from multiple angles, managing to stay ahead of her opponent, before throwing Zeref to the ground “Cursed Lightning: Blast!” Thalia lifted her arms up and passed an electric current through Zeref.

Zeref then hits the ground, then stands back up “Storm Release: Mighty Spark!” He fired a blast of lightning at Thalia, but she manipulated it for her own, and rebounds it.

Zeref then stopped it with his boomerang and jumped toward a tree, uprooting it, then punched it.

It flies toward Thalia, who disintegrates it with a blast of electricity. Zeref then slammed the ground, summoning an earthquake, which caused Thalia to stumble.

Afterward, Thalia jumped, then flew away. Zeref accepts it as a challenge, and flew toward her.

They rush at each other, and collided, summoning a massive discharge of electricity, but it turns out that Zeref had kicked Thalia with both of his feet.

Thalia then flew back-first into a wall, but gets back up and started running. Zeref threw the boomerang again, but Thalia teleported away, causing the boomerang to hit the wall before returning.

Thalia resumed running, then, knowing Zeref is coming right towards her, turned around and fired two electric bolts while jumping.

Zeref knocked both aside and then kicked Thalia into the air, followed by a powerful blow with his knee.

Thalia flew downward, first hitting a column with her back, then landed on the ground. But Zeref suddenly landed on the ground, causing Thalia to stumble.

Zeref then grabbed onto Thalia, headbutts her, then slammed her to the ground. He jumps back into a safe distance and summons a tornado.

Thalia disappeared, and reappeared inside the tornado. She fired a barrage of bolts, which caught Zeref off-guard, who is unable to block them all.

Thalia then used a huge discharge of electricity, stunning Zeref. Thalia teleported to Zeref, who is still stunned, but as Zeref recovered and is about to attack, Thalia uppercut him far into the air.

Thalia followed Zeref and the two clash with a flurry of blows, ending with Thalia grabbing Zeref and unleashing and yelling “Cruse Lighting: Sparking Hand!”

Thalia grabbed Zeref and held him in the air while electrocuting him, then punched him to the ground...which has no effect on Zeref.

Zeref slammed Thalia downwards. He summoned a massive electric blast to fire at Thalia. Thalia saw it coming, and in the aftermath, has absorbed all of its electrical power.

Thalia then flies upward, but Zeref grabbed Thalia took her into the massive storm clouds.

Thalia shuddered in shock as a massive dragon made of storm magi appeared behind Zeref, circling around him.

“Wh-What are you?!” Thalia stammered. “I am your worst nightmare, honey. Storm Release: Dragon Circus!” the dragon and Zeref said at the same time.

Multiple dragons made of storm magi appear, they darted for Thalia, ramming through her body like a bulldozer, shocking every part of her body.

Afterwards, both Zeref and Thalia began falling from the sky. Freddie whistled loudly causing the shadows to appear from the ground, making a giant net to catch Thalia and Zeref.

Once landing on the ground, Freddie quickly pushed Thalia out of the way to get to Zeref “hey, wake up. Zeref, wake up.”

Zeref's eyes fluttered open to see Freddie's face, he smiled “Freddie…”

She hugged him tightly “don't scare me like that! What was up with all that lightning?! It looked like you pissed off Zeus or something!”

Zeref chuckled, smoke escaping his lips “I don't know,” he sat up, groaning as he did “but I do know that I kicked Thalia's butt,” he kissed Freddie's lips, soft and slow “and nobodies gonna get between me and you, not even the gods and goddesses.”

Anyways! It's gonna take a while for updates because my computer is broken and I have to write on my phone.
