Dipper laid on his stomach on his bed. He used his arm to keep his head up as he flicked through the journal's pages. He let time pass by. Everything was quiet, except for the old, wrinkly pages being flipped.

Back in the kitchen, Stan talked with the other kids. He knew that Dipper wouldn't be on board with the plan to immediately try again. But he figured one more shot would be satisfying enough. He needed to know if his brother was still out there...somewhere. And once he did come back, Dipper would be there to witness it. He would be able to see what his great uncle was fighting for.

Star and Marco needed to go home soon. Marco's parents could easily get worried if they can't find Star or Marco. On top of it, they both had school the next day. To not be back from a dimensional trip would cause Marco's parents to freak.

"Maybe we can use my wand!" Star suggested. "I'm pretty sure I know a good spell to fix the portal."

Stan lowered her chin to look down at Mabel. She looked at him at the same time. With a smile, she nodded. Mabel was ready to try again. But it was her twin that she was really concerned about. As Star tried to master a spell for the portal, Mabel went to get Dipper.

When she reached the doorway of their attic bedroom, she stopped. Her eyes fell on her brother. He was fast asleep on his stomach. He wasn't tucked in, his hat was left on the ground, and he was laying his exhausted head on the open pages of the journal 3. Mabel watched his stomach rise and fall slowly. He seemed so peaceful and calm. Mabel would hate to wake him up just to see something he didn't want to see happen. So, she left him where he was. But once that portal activated, everything would change. For the better or worse, Mabel wasn't positive.

Meeting the others back downstairs, Star had just finished a spell on the portal.

"Fixerous, changeous, newtica!" She chanted.

Her magic wand gathered every last drop of its magic. Star could feel the wand overheating from how much power she was using. She was worried that she wouldn't have enough magic to bring her and Marco home.

After Stan's brother would make his grand entrance, that's when Star and Marco would leave through the same portal. The wand in the blonde's hands was getting more unbearably hotter every second. It gave off its brightest, most blinding light that Star had to close her eyes tight and turn away, as did Marco. It was like staring at the sun.

Stan and Mabel were at work back in the control room. Stan was using the last of his stolen and illegal nuclear waste to get the machine working. He asked Mabel to set the timer to twenty four hours. Mabel obeyed Stan's command. It was a bit strange for Mabel to see this side of her Grunkle Stan. He was serious. He was focused and determined. She could see it in his facial expressions.

Not only was she startled by his appearance, they way he acted was also unsettling. He went about the control room, pushing buttons, checking radars, and flicking up tiny levers. As if he had done this more than once, Stan knew exactly what to do, when to do it.

Mabel decided that she'd ignore him and watch Star in action. Mabel peered through the shattered glass window that gave a view of the portal in the other room above Stan's desk. But when she tried to, Mabel was blinded by a white light. It reminded her of the first time the timer reached zero on the portal. This light, however, didn't last as long. It faded quickly and left a brand new portal in front of everyone. It was like the machine wasn't even touched. It was spotless. Star let out a moment of excitement and accomplishment.

"It worked! It worked! I can't believe it worked! That was the biggest spell I ever did!" She shouted doing a complete twirl on her feet. The skirt of her dress flew and waved with her.

"Nice work!" Marco complimented Star. Stan went to check on the kids.

"Is everything al - woah!" He couldn't believe his eyes. The triangular machine was sitting high and proud. "Let's do this." Stan announced at last, after being caught speechless at the sight of the portal's condition.

"Mabel," Stan called behind his back. "Ya' wanna do the honors?" Mabel was easily seen with her head popping out through the broken control room window. She smiled with a gasp. Then, the girl cheerfully skipped over to her Grunkle's side. Stood before them, was the lever that activated and deactivated the portal. "Just be careful." Stan warned his niece.

Mabel grabbed hold of the lever. The cold metal in her hands reminded her of the first time she held onto it, when she was trying to decide to trust or distrust Stan. Now it felt like she was experiencing it all over again. Like she was reliving it. Her smile disappeared from her face and she hesitated.

"Grunkle Stan?" She asked, turning her head to look at him. "Are you sure this is...right?" Mabel was now questioning this plan of Stan's.

Stan got down on one knee to get down to the girl's height.

"Look, kid. I know this came unexpected. But we're making the right choice here, I promise you that." Mabel observed the lever in her hands.

At last, she used all her might to push it forward. When she did, the portal gave off its first electric strikes of what looked like lightening bolts that lit up the room. Stan grabbed Mabel by her shoulders, urging her to back away from the portal. He didn't want her to get hit by any strikes of blue bolts coming from the machine.
