Its second mod, finally. Home Room was slow after the new kid basically said he was mute. It just made things awkward and it seemed to make the new kid feel really closed in. But guess my luck. He followed me to Science. His nickname makes sense though, although I doubt very much that thats his real name. But wanna know the worst part? He actually sits beside me. I guess it makes sense though, since he was already out of his comfort zone. Might as well sit with someone he has at least seen before. Either that or it was because I chose to sit in the back lab table. I'll admit that this kid was interesting. He had a small sloppy stack of drawings on his desk, along with a really tiny notebook. His drawings were definitely better than his crude handwriting. He probably shouldn't have college ruled paper but I'm not gonna be an ass to him and tell him that. I choose to ignore him though, not really wanting to get too attached to anybody this year. But after awhile of the teachers ramblings about the school rules, he opens the tiny notebook, writing in it and sliding the notebook to me. It simply says hi at the top of the page. With Hoodie written in front of it. I guess he uses this notebook to communicate. But honestly, I was just really surprised he chose to talk to me. I thought he would but it would have to be forced, like for a science project in the future or something. But I shrugged, writing my name and saying hi back. I slide it back to him, putting my binder on top of the science table to hide that we were talking to each other with notes. Although it was probably unnecessary since we were in the back. He slides it back over, and it says that his name is Hoodie, and that he was new in the school. I already knew about both, but whatever. I told him I knew that, and that my name was Cole. Along with a small warning about this being kind of a bad middle school. He sends the notebook back to me, simply shrugging off my bad school statement and instead asking if I wanted him to leave me alone. I mean, he kind of read my mind but this kid seems to be different from others for obvious and not-so obvious reasons. But I still tell him that no, this is cool. I then notice that he hasn't mentioned that he can't talk yet. I guess its something he prefers not to talk about. But I could understand that. I wouldn't want to be treated special either. I slide the notebook back to him, looking over to see what he writes. He smiles though, which seemed kind of weird but also natural. You rarely get to see those kinds of smiles in this school. It kind of reminds me of Alisa. He slides it back, finished writing. And I kinda feel a pang of guilt as I read a paragraph worth of text. He asked if I wanted to be friends. Which alone is like wow, really? I barely know you. But then he also goes on about how he doesn't really have many friends, and that he has trouble talking to people. Heh, hell yeah he has trouble talking to people. I sigh, knowing that this poor kid is gonna need the help. I reluctantly slide it back, and his smile only grows, teeth showing as he reads that I said sure, we can be friends. He sends it back, nodding. This time it says that he hopes that I don't mind him not really liking to talk. I tell him its okay, a little saddened that he really doesn't want me to know he's mute. But I guess it can be my secret that I already know.
