Intro
I think we all have one. Sometimes, it's nice to step away from the canon clans and make our own clan, with their own territory, culture, hunting methods and everything in between! While this is fun, there are a couple things to keep in mind.

What to do and not to do:
Goodness, where do I start? As always, the beginning! Your first instinct is to create the name, and figure the rest out later. I'm going to do this in separate parts because if I don't, I'll get off topic:

Deciding a Name: When deciding on a clan name, you want to make it sound cool, but do you really want FrostClan on a tropical island? While tropical islands are an AWESOME places for cats to live, and FrostClan sounds cool, they don't really match. When deciding your clan name, don't look at what sounds cool. The history of your clan is very important! If you know, the clan founders were Wind Runner, Thunder, Tall Shadow, River Ripple and Clear Sky. Can't you match up which clan they founded pretty quickly? Exactly. You must make history of founders. So remember:
Look at:
• Territory
• Clan founder
• maybe prey that lives there

Deciding Cultures: "Cultures? The warrior code?" NO. Every clan in the books has a unique culture. WindClan, for example, lives on the open, uses speed instead of stealth, and don't have dens. Warriors of WindClan sleep in the open. Why? Because, they know it means that they are closer to StarClan. RiverClan also has their swimming and their habit of weaving pretty things, like shells, into their dens. Make sure your clan isn't just 'a clan' and has something especially unique.

Clan Territory: This falls around your territory. You know where logic applies? A harsh, snowy tundra. A mile to the east, you'll find a scorching desert! *sarcasm. Gotta love it* Deciding your clans territory is probably the first thing you should do.
Once you decide territory, that will determine prey, which determines hunting technique, which determines something that I'll get into later. Make sure that if you have neighboring clans, that both your territories can coexist. Also, make sure your territory is a place where cats can live. A desert isn't really the best place, unless they live at a huge oasis or something. I feel like I didn't clear up this section very much, so feel free to ask about anything!

Cat looks: Maybe you weren't expecting this. Your cats' descriptions will partially rely on where your clan lives! RiverClan cats, for example, have large, almost webbed paws, and usually sleek blue, gray, black, or silver coats. WindClan usually has smaller builds and blacks, Browns, or grays as a pelt color. ShadowClan typically has darker pelts. All of this has to do with how they live. RiverClan blends in with the water, large paws help them swim, and their sleek coats let them swim swiftly. WindClan blends in with the rocks, grass, and rough terrain of the moor and their lighter builds give them remarkable speed. ShadowClan's dark pelts help them blend with the shadows. So, if your clan lives in a swamp, most of them will have wide paws, so they don't sink in the mud, and brown pelts to camouflage. See what I mean? I hope so!

This section will focus on choosing a good name, and keeping it original.
A few FanClan names that are used too often:
• StormClan
• MistClan
• MoonClan
• FireClan
• LightningClan
• FoxClan
• AirClan
• OceanClan (this one irks me at infinite levels for obvious reasons)
"So what do I do, CatScratch?"
Well, young apprentice, revisit the other tips AND try a simple tip: When creating your clan, think original and outside that box that Kittypets make dirt in! For example, I'll use one of the ones above, FireClan. SOOO, FireClan. Original. So take that word you were thinking(in this case, Fire) and expand upon it. Do a brainstorming session. To do this, take a piece of paper and then draw an oval and write 'Fire' in it. Draw lines connecting to the circle, and write what the word "fire" makes you think of! Make sure you include everything you think of, no matter how random or off topic! It helps! After a little brainstorming, I have:

• EmberClan
• SparkClan
• BurnClan
• SmokeClan
• ScorchClan
And many more! See? It is much more original than "FireClan"!
