I crept along the boat's deck, Nighstar, my Night Fury, following close behind me. I sorted through the keys on the keyring that I had, looking for the Stormcutter one.
Nightstar nudged me, his blue eyes glowing in the darkness.
"I know." I whispered.
All of a sudden a Light Fury with violet eyes appeared beside me, Joel, my friend, on her.
"The guards are coming." He said.
"One minute..." I said.
I found the key and unlocked the cage. The Stormcutter launched itself into the air without a second glance. I then heard footsteps.
Someone was coming.
"Thought that you could get away from me, did you?" Said voice.
"Free all of my dragons?"
Grimel stepped into the dim orange light of a torch.
"You can't." He said.
All of a sudden three Deathgrippers launched themselves at us. I leapt to one side and rolled to a crouching position, my sword drawn.
Nightstar shot a plasma blast at one of the Deathgrippers, wounding it. Starlight, Joel's Light Fury, took one of the red-and-black dragons in her talons and flung it into the ocean. One of Grimel's Deathgripper venom darts embedded itself in the wood inches from my head.
"I will have your Night Fury." He said. Nightstar shot another plasma blast at the final Deathgripper, buying me enough time to mount him and take off. Electricity crackled over his body as he harnessed the power of lightning and shot a plasma blast into air. He dived through it and we appeared in a clear blue sky on the other side.  Starlight and Joel appeared next to me.
"That was a close one." Said Joel.
"Yeah, it was." I said, my heart still pounding and the adrenaline still coursing through me.
"We made it, though." I said.
Nightstar roared and the dragons gathered behind us followed us. Nightstar was their king, Starlight their queen.
Every dragon we rescued we led to the Hidden World, a safe haven for dragons that Grimel would never find.
Or so we hoped.
We dived down into the cave. I squinted my eyes against the spray as dived ever deeper into waterfall. We then emerged into a cave and flew in between glowing columns of rock lined with dragon eggs. All different kinds of dragons flew through the cave, from tiny Fireworm babies to fully grown adult Timberjacks.
Nighstar turned and roared at the dragons following is, telling them that they could go.
They obliged and split off to explore the caves.
We went to the "Throne Room" as we liked to call it, a giant crystal in the middle of a huge room. We landed just out of sight of the millions if dragons gathered in the throne room. We dismounted and took the saddles off of them. Nighstar nuzzled my hand before turning spreading his wings. With one last look at me he turned and flew into the throne room, Starlight close behind him. We watched Starlight and Nighstar land on the crystal and look out over the assembled dragons, who were roaring. As the King and Queen of Dragons settled down the dragons bowed as one. Nighstar roared and the dragons roared back in response.
"We should go." Said Joel.
I nodded and followed him out into the winding cave systems below the main chambers of the Hidden World. The caves were lit only by the bioluminescent mushrooms and fungus that covered the cave walls. We wound our way through stoney corridor after stoney corridor until we found our cave, a large cave with glowing fungus lighting up the interior. There were wooden desks and beds that we had made ourselves deeper into the cave. We hung the saddles on hooks by the entrance. I then went to my desk by my bed and began to write in my journal about the Crimson Goregutter. My journal was where I kept records of all the dragons that we had found in detailed paragraphs. I drew their likenesses above each paragraph. In the front I had the Dragon Classes and in the back I had a map that I could fold out and look at of all the islands that we had found.
Once I was done with that I lay on my bed, thinking about our close call with Grimel earlier today.
I will have your Night Fury. He had said.
The words haunted me.
I would never let them hurt Nightstar or Starlight.
I stood and went over to the entrance of our cave. I waited for Nighstar and Starlight to return. I thought about the other islands we had yet to discover.
The other species of dragons we could find.
What all is waiting for us? I thought.
The prospect of finding new dragons excited me.
But what more could their be? We've found and logged hundreds of dragon species, found a ton of islands.
I lifted my head as Nightstar came into view. He bounded over to me and knocked me to the ground.
"High, nice to see you to, bud." I said, laughing. I then stood. He nuzzled my hand and I scratched him behind the ears. Starlight was with Joel, laying beside his bed and cleaning her claws. I smiled. We had a pretty good life down here. All the dragons here respected us because we had either rescued them or had gained the trust of the King and Queen.
I say down on the atone and Nightstar laid down and put his head in my lap. I scratched him behind the ears and looked at the millions of glowing fungi.
"What else is there?" I asked Nighstar.
He raised his head and looked at me.
"We have you... but what other dragons are out there? And has Grimel found them yet?"
He hummed and nuzzled me.
"I know. I shouldn't be worried, but I am." I told him.
He put his head back in my lap and I stroked his head between his ears.
"Amaya, we need to check some more islands tomorrow, maybe do a bit more exploring, see what we can find." He said.
"You're right." I said, getting up and going over to the map on the wall, Nighstar following close behind.
I looked at all the islands. The Screaming Isles, where we found both Screaming Deaths and Whispering Deaths, the Night Isles, where I found Nighstar all those years ago. It was also where the Night Terrors and Shadow Wings lived.
There was a lava island where Erupadons, Fireworms, Monstrous Nightmares, Singe Tails and other Stoke Class dragons lived.
Icefang Island held Snow Wraiths, Shivertooths, Groncicles, Wooly Howls and Flightmares.
Several smaller islands held Sand Wraiths and Sndbusters. Larger forested islands like Waterfall Isle had dragons like Slither Wings, Deathsongs, Dramillions and Silver Phantoms.
There were Thunderdrums, Sculdrons, Sea Shockers and other Tidal Class dragons in the open ocean in between the islands.
That was only the start. There were hundreds of other islands with hundreds of other dragons on them. We checked each over a week's time, checking to make sure Grimel hadn't found them. We fought him when he came to close, gathering dragon allies from the islands.
We rescued the dragons on his ships and brought either here to the Hidden World or to one of the islands. There were thousands upon thousands of dragons here, and their were more to discover still.
"I think we should check Waterfall Isle." I said, looking the map.
Joel appeared beside me and said "Waterfall Island, Night Isles and... Stoker Island." He said.
"We didn't check those this week." He said.
"I don't think we did..." I said, trailing off.
That night we prepared to leave like we always did, packing food, checking the saddles over and making any repairs. We also looked over out dragon scale armor, planning to wear it tomorrow.
Joel's armor was made of Starlight's shed scales and mine was made of Nighstar's shed scales.
They were fireproof and could take multiple blows before giving out. We needed the armor if we could potentially be fighting Grimel.
We then went to bed, expecting tomorrow to be an action-packed day.
