The light was dim inside the dank cave as water dripped from a crack in the ceiling. The only sound was from water dripping onto the floor and destroying the rocks underneath. It was as if the world outside was dead, never existing. The machine glowed a rich blue as water slowly released what it was hiding inside. A face emerged first from the water, his eyes lightly closed from a nap. The rest of his body emerged with scars everywhere a speck of skin was shown. The girl nearby was watching with a dreamy look, having been awaken from her own slumber too.

The boy opened his eyes, slowly, blinking with a slight deadness in his eyes. A tiny ray of light was shining down upon him. The girl across floated over to see or even hear what the light was saying, but nothing.

Nothing. Just like how this cave has been for hundred years. That is the true definition of pure agony.

The boy finally moved but was extremely stiff in movement. He yawned and bent his knees, every bone in his body cracked and popped. He groaned in both pleasure and slight pain. The girl floated towards him, studying his body. He obviously was in his underwear, but his muscle mass impressively was intact for one hundred years.

"Impressive," she said, "you're still alive after all these years. It surpasses the lifespan of a Hylian."

Link jumped, finally focusing on her. She was dressed in long pants but rolled up at the edge of her shoes. Her shirt was tightly wrapped around her figure, showing off every angle. But the strangest part was the tiny blue edge of light coming around her body. She seemed alive but at the same time a ghost.

"W-Who... are... you?" He said, his voice straining with every word.

She giggled and patted his head. "I do not know who I am or what I am. I can only remember the name (y/n). I remember your name is Link."

"L-Link...?" He said, a faint glimmer of hope appearing in his eyes. "How... am I... alive?"

"The Shrine of Resurrection. It seems you and me are in the same problem. We both can't seem to remember who we are." Her eyes grew dark with sadness. "Unlike you, I have remained awake for one hundred years. I seem to be a spirit, however, I am not dead. I was hoping once you were awake I could hear the answer from you... but it seems that chance will never come."

Link grew a slight pity to the girl. His throat burned with every movement he made with his throat. It was like he never talked before in his life. "There has to be... an exit right? If we can see... outside then... we can start looking.. for answers."

"I think we can leave once you take this item. It appeared shortly after your treatment was finished. I've never seen it before, but it appears to be high tech equipment."

Link turned around and saw the equipment. He slowly walked towards it, his strength returning in sluggish intervals. It was a strange device as it glowed a faint blue, the design engraved with a huge eye and a teardrop dripping down from the eye. (y/n) floated towards Link with precaution. She didn't know how the device worked since it recently appeared. The shrine itself suddenly starting working on its own, like everything in this shrine was set on a timer.

He took the slate and hummed with a faint buzzing noise. A robotic voice started talking through the slate as Link became startled and almost dropped the device. (y/n) gripped the edge to help him, and Link looked at her fully, encountering the first face he saw since waking up.

Her face was beautiful, glowing even, in the darkness of the cave. Her (e/c) stood out the most from her features as she backed away too quickly for Link to register she was uncomfortable. Link cleared his throat and looked away, looking ahead at the tiny speck of light the cave barely showed.

"Let's get going..." He said, his throat sounding better by the second.

Link found treasure chests inside the shrine and put on a linen shirt that was just a tad bit short at the end, along with tight pants as well as they didn't roll down all the way. The shoes along with the clothes were worn away with time.

(y/n) helped move the block and Link climbed it, becoming more and more eager to escape the cold the cave offered and let the brisk warmth of the old sun seep into his skin. Once the light became brighter, Link sprinted towards it and started running; the muscles in his legs awakening after hundred years as the wind zipped through his ears.

Link panted as he finally came outside, seeing the world whole and bright and full of life brought a whole different sense of wonder inside him. (y/n) floated ahead of him, looking out over the cliff at the horror awaiting at the castle. Link saw the castle as a pang of deep guilt overcame inside him.

"Hyrule Castle," (y/n) said, the sun's rays making her seem alive rather than a ghost. "H-How do I know that name? What has happened...? Where are all the people?"

A monster appeared in a form over the castle, binding it down with its powers. It roared as a bright light appeared over the monster. It disappeared as the light died down with it. (y/n) turned around and saw a look of seriousness appear in his eyes, knowing he has a duty to do but has no way of knowing how and what way to finish the task.

"We need to hurry." Link scrambled off the rock and started sprinting down the path.

(y/n) grew shocked and chased after him, figuring out she didn't need to float like a ghost all the time and touched the ground. It felt strange to her to feel the ground again since she didn't bother touching the ground in the cave. Even though she felt like a spirit, she could feel and touch things any live person could.

She caught up with Link and stopped him in his tracks, "Wait!" she cried out. "We don't know what to do or where to go!"

Link looked over his shoulder and jumped to see her on the ground, looking like a real person. There was still the blue aura around her, but it was so faint you had to squint your eyes to see it there. "I know," he said, urging down the path slowly for her to walk along, "but something deep inside me tells me that I need to hurry and save something... someone... I can't remember... everything is too hasty to recall any details."

"I know what you mean, but advancing towards that castle is only going to be suicide."

Link stopped in his paths, feeling hopelessly lost. He was barely awake and felt utterly alone. How long was he awake? Was there anybody, any living soul, still alive after days, months, or years he was asleep? Link felt he was turning pale from the breakdown he was having inside until a voice called towards them.

"What are you two doing out here?" Called out an old man.

(y/n) and Link felt a glimmer of hope awaken inside them both. They raced towards the old man as the shrine grew distant between each step. Neither one knowing that this was the start of their destiny.
