Pining for a Man of Land

Sitting upon a moonlit rock, staring across the sea,
I often wonder of my life and if we're meant to be.

For legs and tail, and  land and sea, for water, air and more,
Could it truly work for us or is it a dream at its very core..?

I hope and pray that you someday can swim among my friends
And breathe among the salty waves without fearing for life's end

But who am I to tempt the fates and risk the loss of life
While you, my dear, must live on land and love despite the strife?

Oh destiny, please hear me out, one wish forevermore for me,
To live among the humans far, my life and love to thee.

I'd give up singing, give up swimming, leave my family too
If only I could see you soon and kiss you till the moon is new.

But, perhaps, love's not for me and I'll pine for all my years
So I'll sing, for you and love, and wipe away my tears

But should you have me then forever happy I shall be
Even if I have to live a life away from my darling sea.
