father spoke to his son of makeup
said all females had to wear it
that it was like shoes in that you can't go out without it gone

i suppose that means i currently
am i am inadequately dressed, thought son.

son protested to father
father ignored him
said he never listens to his parents
that he should trust them
son says makeup makes him uncomfortable
they tell him to get out of his comfort zone
they just don't get it

I'M NOT THEIR LITTLE GIRL
I'M THEIR SON AND THEY FILL MY HEART WITH RESENTMENT
WITH THEIR WORDS AS CHILLING AS ICE

parents fail to see
what's right in front of them
they can be quite oblivious
to the child who needs the most help
they fawn and drool over the other son
the one who does just fine on his own, as his elder does
neither of them need much parental help
the help needed for the elder brother is beyond what a parent could do
a parent could not change their entire mindset
just to make their son happy with who he is, for once
they would rather he suffer, he's sure

makeup is not like shoes
it doesn't leave you at a deep
disadvantage to not wear makeup
makeup is not a required garment to enter public spaces, as shoes are
no shoes, no shirt, no service.
it isn't no makeup, no shirt, no service.
they insist i change myself to earn not only their favor,
but that of the other humans around me
they're not worth it

what care i of their petty concerns of appearance
they can kiss my apparently ugly posterior
for i should not have to become someone else
to gain approval or emotional connections to humans, or whatever
i'd rather be alone
i'd rather they leave me alone
i'd rather they stop degrading me
comparing makeup to shoes is quite an awful simile
but i'm not surprised considering
he uses me as his human spellcheck
