liveloes hopefully this lives up to your expectations, buds :)

this is going to take place just a little bit before chapter zero of In Too Deep during the winter break, just before they all go out for a hike in the snow when she says  "She talked to Brett a whole lot more often than she ever wanted to admit out loud, which Mason of course knew about, and it made her happier than she'd ever expected it to"  so hopefully that ties in okay

Considering it was the end of the first week of winter break and at one point she was undeniably excited to have nothing to do for 2 weeks, Katherine saying she was bored would be a complete and understatement. The first day she'd finished watching Bones, and had caught the killer within the first few minutes of watching each episode, then had moved onto horror movies.

Those were just as easy to profile.

So she spent the majority of her day catching up on sleep she didn't really need, now that things had been taken care of regarding the Beast and all those shenanigan's. But it did mean that, since Liam was now spending the majority of his time with his new girlfriend and Mason with his new boyfriend, she was left to do her own thing.

Coincidentally, so was Brett.

Since they were the two single ones now, aside from Scott, Lydia and her brother, she spent the majority of her free time talking to him, whether it be over skype, text, or in person. He was actually quite funny, and unbelievably sweet to her even if she accidentally woke him up at 3:30 in the morning to complain about a stupid woman on an episode of an earlier Criminal Minds season. What she truly appreciated, however, was that he hadn't asked her out again.

He just listen to her rant about crappy special effects, how much Mr Anderson pissed her off while prepping for the pre calc final, and just how annoying it was to watch all these couples wandering the halls. Truthfully, Brett was one of the greatest friends she'd ever had.

So when he invited her to go watch a movie -- the local university did daily showings of various movies during every school break so they could make some extra money -- she couldn't help the leap in her chest as she responded with an obviously excited sure.

She'd gotten dressed into something warm, as was necessary due to the increasingly lowering temperature, and filled a travel thermos with coffee as she left the house. He was waiting in his car outside for her when she jogged out of the house, leaving the front door unlocked since Stiles and Scott would be getting back shortly from god-knows-where. "Hey, Sherlock," he called, hands stuffed in the pockets of his jeans.

A wide smile crossing her lips, Katherine met her gaze with his own and pulled him down for a hug. "Does that make you Watson?" She asked him with a tiny grin, feeling her feet briefly rise off the ground before he set her back down.

Brett smiled easily at her, and dropped his right eye in a wink. "For you? Always."

Almost immediately, watching him walk around to the drivers seat while opening her own door, Katherine barked out a laugh. "Dude, does that ever work with girls? Seriously?"

Their doors closed in sync and she was grateful to feel the warm embrace of the heater." You'd seriously be surprised," he snickered.

"Oh my god, dude, literally just drive."

As it turns out, they were the only ones at the theatre for the 10am showing, which she found benefitted them just fine. As much as she hated to admit it, she had a tendency to yell at the screen when a character did something stupid so she was mildly grateful she wouldn't have an audience to witness it.

They got popcorn and some candies, and she smuggled her thermos in using the unfairly large pockets in his jacket, while also ordering two large cokes. As they sat down in the very middle of the theatre with five minutes before the movie started with still no one else there, she glanced over at him. "So, what movie are we seeing?"

"Uhhh, Jaws, I think," he hummed, pulling his phone out of his pocket.

Katherine popped a piece of popcorn into her mouth and raised a brow. "So you've brought me to an unknown movie in an empty theatre early in the morning?"

"...yes?"

"Sounds like an episode of Criminal minds to me, but what do I know? I'm fifteen and can't even tie my own shoes properly."

He seemed surprised. "You're fifteen?"

"Unfortunately I'm still alive after fifteen years, yes," she confirmed, glancing up as the lights dimmed. "I'll be sixteen at the end of august, if that makes you feel any better."

He just nodded and glanced over at her again, looking up as the credits started up. She mimicked them quietly in between popcorn pieces, flushing slightly whenever Brett laughed at her. No one else ever came into the theatre, so when the movie started and it was just them, she couldn't help but feel a little bit nervous.

Even though she was glad there was no audience, the idea of being alone in a theatre with him was a little nerve-wracking. But she didn't have much time to think about it as the credits ended and the movie began with the little mountain picture and the glowing green light which made her frown.

She'd watched Jaws before, and she could've sworn the opening was different. Brett hadn't seemed to notice so she chalked it up to her watching too many movies. She watched, waiting for the opening credits that announced the actors in the movie to show up, but that wasn't what happened.

"I'd never given much thought to how I would die."

"Okay," Katherine hummed, swiveling her head over to Brett. "What the fuck."

He seemed just as confused.

A deer came on the screen, chewing away at emerald green grass next to a stream as the woman's voice continued on with her monologue, though the cinematography quickly took on the perspective of a creature hunting the unsuspecting animal, stalking it from within the bushes.

It chased the deer through the forest before glancing up to a glare of sunlight across the screen and turning to a pale brunette girl standing in the middle of what looked like a desert, a tiny potted cactus in her grasp. It took her a moment to figure out what was happening, and then she gaped at him. "Did you actually bring me to a theatre to watch Twilight dude?"

He stared at the screen for a moment, uncomprehending, before falling back with a groan. "God dammit, Lori," he muttered, rapidly typing something -- probably a hateful text message to his younger sister -- on his phone. "Seriously? She said it was Jaws, and that you'd like it so I am so sorry--"

"--We might as well stay for it, since we paid already," Katherine shrugged, shifting in her seat until she was comfortable. "Plus, I could use a good yelling session."

And she got it.

For the first hour, she was firing out witty remarks and sarcastic snickers, only pausing to make flirty comments at Jasper because damn. Brett snickered beside her each time, only looking up when she scoffed at Bella laying in the hospital bed at the end of the movie, losing her mind over the fact that Edward wasn't sure they could be together. "You've literally been dating for an hour oh my god."

"It isn't even that bad," he rolled his eyes, stealing a skittle from her.

She looked at him, astonished. "Seriously? Brett, are we watching the same movie?"

His face lit up in a grin as he glanced away from the screen again and nudged her arm with his. "I might be sitting beside you, if we are," he grinned.

"Oh my god I don't understand how -- how can you just be that attached to a person after a week? That's such a short time fall in love with a person, oh my god...it doesn't make any sense to me dude, I--"

"Do you want to leave, then?" Brett chuckled, looking at her with raised brows.

"No, I'm good here," she shrugged, looking over at him with a slight shrug as she ate another couple pieces of popcorn and then a trio of yellow skittles.

He stared at her, obviously confused as to why. "All you've done so far is yell at the movie and complain, what are you talking about? Why would you want to stay if you hate it so much?"

Katherine didn't put much thought into her answer, and her mouth was forming the words before she'd even processed them. "Because you're here."

Then she froze.

Brett was obviously surprised, with his eyes wide and lips parted slightly.

But then he smiled. "That simple, huh?"

She tried to pretend he couldn't hear just how rapidly her heart was racing, or see how flushed her cheeks were. "Yeah...yeah, um, it's that simple."

A/N: QUICK NOTE THAT I DON'T HATE TWILIGHT AT ALL, I JUST DON'T THINK KATHERINE WOULD LIKE IT
