Patton wasn't feeling that great today. He had fallen ill a few days before, and as much as he'd tried to be optimistic, Logan could tell that his patience was wearing thin. He was on his third straight day of bedrest, and Patton could hardly sit still for thirty seconds, never mind thirty-six hours. So, it was easy to tell that Patton's smile was faltering ever so slightly.

Logan had done everything that he could think of to help with his boyfriend's physical wellbeing, like make him soup, pump him up on Advil and Tylenol, provide him with lots of pillows and blankets, set up the humidifier, and everything else under the sun. (That Logan could think of, anyway.) But, he was now brainstorming a way to make Patton feel better emotionally, too. Obviously, he knew just how much Patton loved those corny pun, and because he was always trying to get Logan to make one, without much avail, it seemed like the most obvious plan of action.

Logan would come up with a dad joke.

Then he would share it with his boyfriend, Patton would giggle in that adorable way that he always did, and it would be great.

That was the plan, anyway.

But, after hours and hours of thinking, Logan just didn't think he could do it. Every play on words that he could think of was either too nerdy, didn't fit quite right, didn't make sense, or just... not funny. He was quickly gaining more and more respect for how good Patton was at this joke thing. How did he come up with these on the fly?

But, he refused to give up.

He worked tirelessly at it, jotting ideas down in a notebook, or looking online for inspiration. After many hours of soul searching, and migraine inducing thought, he finally found it. A good joke. Or, hopefully, a good enough joke.

Thank god, too, because one more minute and Logan might have fallen out of his chair.

"Hello, Patton." He said, when he entered the bedroom. The room was darkly lit, and Patton was squinting at a book in the low lighting. "You shouldn't read in the dark. It's bad for your eyes."

Patton looked up, and his expression warmed immediately. "Hi, and I know that, Logan. But, I also know that the sun is bad for my headache."

"I really am sorry you're not feeling well."

"For the last time, it's not your fault! I'm just a little under the weather, that's all. It happens to everyone. I'm sure it'll blow over in a few days."

"I think I have something to make you feel better, though." Logan offered. "Would you like to hear a joke about chemistry?"

Patton didn't respond. Not verbally, or even physically. In fact, he didn't respond at all. He sat there, and just stared at Logan blankly.

"...Patton?"

"I'm sorry!" Patton said, cracking a smile. "Did you want a reaction out of me?"

Logan just looked at his boyfriend for a moment, and then promptly burst into tears.

Patton's eyes went wide with alarm. "Oh goodness! Logan, are you okay? I'm sorry!" He reached out instinctively, but put his arms back down when he remembered that Logan refused to touch him while he was ill.

"That was better than mine!" Logan sobbed, breaking. "I've been working on mine all day and you came up with yours on the spot! I don't understand!"

Patton looked relieved, and a little amused. "Oh, Loga--"

"It isn't fair!"

Then, Patton started to giggle. "Aw, baby. I'm sorry. I'm sure your joke was hilarious."

"Why are you laughing?"

"Because you're adorable!"

Well, to be fair, Logan had wanted to make Patton laugh, and he had. Just... not in the way he intended. So...

Mission accomplished?
