I remember it was a Friday, I was getting ready for my date with Eleanor, and Mandy had decided to come over. I told her that I was about to leave to see Eleanor and she asked me if I wanted help getting ready, I kindly refused her and she sat down to watch TV.

She didn't utter another word until it was time for me to go. I told her she could stay until I got back, 'If I get back' I had joked but she didn't laugh, she didn't even look at me. Instead, she stared straight ahead at the TV and asked if I 'like-liked' Eleanor; she sounded really serious. I told her I didn't know and she didn't say anything in return. I bid her farewell and left.

When I got back she was still there, asleep on the coach. I got a spare blanket and covered her with it and then retreated to my room for the night. When I came down in the morning she was gone.

One day, Eleanor was at my house and Mandy decided to come over unannounced. It was incredibly awkward and I could tell she was upset when she left.

I barely saw her for the rest of the week after that, I tried to speak to her at school but she'd always find an excuse to hurry off somewhere.

At first, I thought it would be healthy for our friendship if we spent a little time apart and maybe she could get over whatever it was she felt for me.

But, instead, I started feeling restless without her presence.

I broke things off with Eleanor Peters and told her about it but it made no difference. She just asked me why and I told her I'd lost interest, to which she nodded thoughtfully and then said something about an assignment before rushing away again.

I missed her.
