I love you.

Je t'aime.

Ich liebe dich.

Ti amo.

Te quiero Te amo.

It's just three simple words.

I

Love

You.

But those words...

Are the strongest thing in the world.

Those three words start wars.

Start life.

Starts death.

But weirdly...

It's the best thing in the world.

She always dreaded hearing his key turning in the lock. She'd sit and stare at the door until it swung open and revealed what she's be doing the rest of the night. On his good days, he'd leave her alone and mind his own business. On his bad days, he'd take all of his anger out on her. On his drunken nights, she'd fear for her life.

Her comfort was work. Sometimes, she'd fall asleep on one of the stretchers or have late surgery and just decide to sleep there. She wouldn't have to deal with him. Then...Then everything flipped. She was fired and appointed to a new hospital, somewhere to start her fellowship year for OB/YN. This was actually a good thing. The hospital was far from her home, so she'd have to move out. Away from him. Before she did though, she made sure to end things. Then, she was off to Los Angles, where she bought her own house next to the hospital.

Amelia stood in front of the hospital doors. It was huge. She heard there would be other fellows there too, but from different hospitals. She took a shaky breath and walked in. The main lobby had patients waiting, and of course, the front desk. Amelia got a nurse's attention.

"You're one of the new fellows, correct?" The nurse opened a file on her computer.

"Yes. Amelia, Amelia Montgomery," She bit her lip.

"Go onto the locker room and get changed," The nurse stopped, "It's the room to your right as soon as you go through those doors," She pointed and two large doors next to the desk.

Amelia waved and quickly said, "Thank you!" then rushed into the locker room.

Inside, there were small lockers in rows, then benches in front of them. The person who had sent the letter telling her she got accepted had also noted you could pick any locker, as long as no other fellow was using it.

Amelia looked at a woman who had sorta ombre looking hair. It started as red and faded down into black. She also had a lip piercing. She honestly looked like she'd be, like, a rock star or artist or some other thing. Amelia approached her.

"You're a cardiothoracic surgeon," Amelia pointed, "Right?"

The woman looked over, "How'd you know?"

"Oh crap, I was just guessing," Amelia chuckled.

The woman laughed, "I'm Molly,"

"Hello Molly, I'm Amelia," Amelia holds out her hand.

"Get changed," Molly smirked, "Mousey."

"Wow," Amelia laughed while changing into her scrubs, "Haven't been called that before."

Molly pinned her hair into a messy bun and sat on a bench. After, changing and pulling up her own hair, Amelia joined her.

"So, what's your specialty?" Molly looked at her, "Mousey."

"Quit calling me that," Amelia rolled her eyes playfully, "OB/YN."

"Hah! You have to wear pink scrubs,"

Molly and Amelia turned and saw a girl poking her head around the locker. She was in her scrubs too, with her wavy raven hair into a ponytail. From the looks, her hair down would be a little past her shoulders. She sat down next to them.

"I'm sorry," The girl was laughing, "That came out rude. I'm Giana, but only my parents and boyfriends call me that. Call me Gia,"

"Nice to meet you, Gia," Amelia smiled.

"So, what exactly is your specialty?" Molly eyed her, but it wasn't rude or..anything.

"PEDS," Gia lifted her head up, "I guess most professionals call it pediatrics...Screw it, I'm not a professional yet."

Molly and Amelia laughed.

"Sorry to interrupt your bonding session over here," A voice came from the area, "But what are we supposed to do once we're done getting ready? We could be missing out right now."

It was a tall girl who had her brown hair pinned back neatly. Preps.

"We wait here for someone to instruct us. It'll happen that way for a week since we're new, Ivy," Molly glared.

"You know her?" Amelia looked at Molly then at Ivy.

"Yeah, she went my old hospital," Molly rolled her eyes, "She's a stuck up."

"I'm not, I just actually care about my work. Unlike you." Ivy turned on her heel and walked back to her locker.

"Stuck up," Molly whispered to Amelia.

Amelia and Gia laughed.

"Am I really the only guy?"

Gia looked at the man, "Looks like it,"

He had black hair and grey eyes. He didn't look mean, but he had a cold stare. His name was Connor.

Molly patted a spot next to her, motioning him to come sit. He sat next to her and sighed, "This place is way too big,"

Amelia nodded, "I feel like I'm going to get lost trying to find the bathroom."

Gia agreed, "You probably will."

"Why did we have to leave anyways? Couldn't we just start our fellowship there?" Molly brought up a good point.

"Because they felt like torturing us," Connor groaned.

"I'm actually glad I got to move..." Amelia stopped and looked down. She forgot they didn't know the situation she was in.

"I guess your other hospital sucked?" Molly said.

"Mhm," Amelia sighed.

At that moment 5 attendings came into the room.

"Ortho?" One called out. Ivy walked up and left with the person.

"Pediatrics?" Another said.

"Welp, that's my cue," Gia got up and went with the attending.

"Nuero?"

Connor waved and left, too.

"Cardio?"

"I'll catch ya later, okay?" Molly told Amelia, "In the meantime, try not to kill anyone, mousey," She winked and walked off with the person.

"OB?" A tall ginger woman looked up from her chart.

"That's me," Amelia stood and walked down the with the woman.

"I'm Dr. Steins. You are Dr. Montgomery, right?"

"Yes," Amelia nodded. Dr. Steins was intimidating.

"Don't worry, I only bite a little," Dr. Steins smirked. She walked in a woman's room, "Mary Kay, going into labor, we need to get her up to an OR, her baby is face down. It should not be face down."

Dr. Steins prepped Mary and headed to the OR with Amelia following.

*BABY BIRTH, WEEEEE*

Amelia sat down at a table with Molly, Gia and Connor.

"I got in surgery my first day here, how lucky is that?" Amelia smiled, "And the patient and her baby lived!"

"Lucky," Connor laid his head down on the table, "My patients brain started to swell, Dr. Mustache blamed it on me even though I hadn't even touched the patient,"

"Wow, looks like you got the mean one," Molly grinned, "Good luck this year, buddy."

Gia yawned, "This kid projectile vomited everywhere. I had to change my scrubs. It was cool."

"Ew," Molly, Amelia and Connor stared at Gia.

"What?"

*48 HOUR SHIFT DONE LATER*

Amelia walked out in her normal clothes. She survived the first day. Molly ran up to her.

"Gay people are cute," Molly giggled.

"Where the hell did that come from?" Amelia and Molly started laughing.

Love.

I Love you.

Love is a precious thing.

When you have it, keep it. Don't try to stretch or push it. Keep it safe in a little locket.

Until that locket cracks.
