Scarlett Jensen.

We entered the venue which was full of people who had put on a facade of fake smiles and fake compliments just to look good or get some new business partners. I had my hand intertwined with Trevor's who took me from between the crowd to his parents. I could still feel the jitters I got when he took my hand in his.

Honestly, as much as I thought it would be awkward holding Trevor's hand, they had a calming effect on me. I didn't hang out with this kind of crowd and everyone's judgmental eyes made me very uncomfortable. This place was oozing of richness.

His parents were both tall and good looking people. I could see that Trevor had his father's looks and his mother's eyes. His mother's smile increased as she saw her son approach her but as soon as she her eyes laid on me her smile disappeared.

"Who is she, honey?" his mother asked him.

"This is Scarlett Jensen, my date." He replied. It was the first time I heard him call me by my full name.

"I thought you were bring...."

"Well you thought and I don't work according to your thought process so why don't you say something to my date and it better be nice." He snapped cutting his mother off in midsentence.

His mother's face had an expression of betrayal. She cleared her throat and opened her mouth to speak to me, "I have heard about your mother working at the Maystore. You should feel lucky girl that my son chose you to be his date because clearly, you don't match our class."

Ouch! Her words stung, making my blood boil. Trevor squeezed my hand as if he was giving me a sign to say what I wanted to and taking the sign, I replied back firmly, "First of all this GIRL has a name, it's Scarlett and second of all I couldn't agree more about not matching your class because my class is way more classier and better than YOURS. I mean I would never stoop to such a low level to insult somebody even though I think highly of myself. I'm pretty sure whoever you wanted Trevor to bring just be your puppet, you must have her wrapped around your finger. But you see, I have my own identity, so I'm sorry to let you down. You know it would be nice if you would just mind your own business and leave Trevor alone."

Trevor smirked with my reply, his father and mother stood there dumbstruck and I cherished that moment. Suddenly I realized something, I understood why Trevor wanted me to be his date. Usually, all the other girls would have acted all mushy and stayed classy, but he wanted someone who would reflect the actual reality.

I mean, it wouldn't take long for a person with brain to figure it out. He literally gave me permission to insult his parents. I mean, I would never allow someone to speak ill or rude of my mother. Well, I did meet Trevor when he insulted her, but that's not the point. He just wanted to bring someone who wouldn't care about his parent's validation.

"I...uhhh...please excuse us." His father spoke up.

After Trevor's parents left, Trevor turned around and faced me. I looked at him apologetically but then he started laughing. He left my hand to clutch his stomach and if we were at home, he would definitely roll on the floor.

I looked at him with wide eyes and an amused look.

"Good work Jensen." He said with a genuine tone. "I'll go get our drinks."

"Thanks, Lockhart. Please don't get me anything with alchohol in it." I smiled.

"You know a lovely lady like you should not be left alone in a room full of strangers." A voice spoke from behind me.

I turned and saw a man who looked deadly similar to Trevor. They had the same hair color and the same eye color. But, whoever this guy was, was slightly taller than Trevor. He also had a more manly voice. The guy was wearing a blue tuxedo and the same royal blue coloured pants. He had a smirk on his face just like Trevor. Pervert.

"It's none of you business, Pervert." I smugly replied.

"Ouch!" He said, dramatically touching his heart.

"Leave my date alone, Vince!" Trevor scowled as he handed me my drink.

"You two know each other?" I ask, confusion written all over my face.

"I am Trevor's older brother, Vincent. Please to meet you!" Vincent spoke, extending his hand for me to shake.

I politely accepted it and extended mine, instead of shaking hands, he brought my hand near his lips and kissed my knuckles which resulted in my cheeks turning red.

"Beautiful!" He said letting go my hand.

"I am Scarlett, Trevor's date." I replied, smiling from ear to ear.

He just gave me a polite smile before he looked at Trevor who was for some reason was not looking happy right now.

"I'll leave you two alone, now." He replied before leaving us.

I didn't bother asking Trevor the reason for him being so pissed thinking that it was not my place to do so. We chugged our drinks and went on the dance floor.

They were playing some rock music, so we danced as if no one was watching us. After a while, they slowed down the music. I stopped and looked around everybody getting a partner and slow dancing. I cleared my throat and looked at the crowd and saw a lot of men ogling me, but I didn't actually care.

Trevor pulled me close to him, aggressively. Rude. I gave him an uncomfortable smile as he placed his hands on the small of my back, closing the space between us.

I could feel my heartbeat increasing crazily and my breath hitched. I placed my tiny hands on his broad shoulders. His eyes were darker filled with possessiveness and lust. I wanted to speak but I couldn't since all of my vocabulary decided to go on a vacation.

We just stood there moving our body in rhythm. I felt his breath on my neck as he snuggled his face. I was shaking and he knew that too. We danced in the same position for ten minutes before the music stopped altogether.

The mayor of Greenville came on the stage and took the mic in his hand. Trevor held my hand and got me out of the party. He walked to his car and held the door open for me.

Taking the gesture I crawled into the passenger seat and he closed the door. I removed my heels and folded my legs up on the seat. He smiled and then shook his head as he saw that.

"Aren't we supposed to stay?" I questioned.

"Nah. It's going to be all business now and I'm not really interested." He replied.

Starting up the engine, he started driving out of the party. We were silent for a very long time. I decided to speak up.

"I thought that you would have a revenge planned up for me when you asked me to be your date."

He looked down at me and spoke, "You figured it out, huh!"

"Yup, your smile told me everything when I told your mother off." I whispered back.

We were still talking softly because honestly, both of us needed sometime to take what happened at the dance floor in.

"Sorry about my brother, it's just he pops up at some random time and leaves whenever he pleases to." He said, breaking the silence.

"It's okay. It was fun meeting your slightly dysfunctional family. " I said, looking outside, but when I realised what I had just said, I looked back at him, "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that. I have no right to be judgmental."

"He is a really nice person, I adore him. But, sometimes he can be really annoying. My parents are out of my league. I'm tired screaming at them the same thing again and again, so now I just do whatever displeased them. It hits a nerve."

"Yeah, I figured the last part out. By the way, thanks for taking me, I had a great time." I enthusiastically said.

"Me too." He laughed while saying that.

He drove me home and decided to escort me till the door.

"Goodnight Lockhart and thanks for the ride." I smiled and awkwardly looked at him. What do I know how? Do I open the door and go or do I wait for him to leave and then enter my house? Why wasn't this informed to me before? Shit.

"Goodnight Jensen." He smiled back.

I don't know what came over me, but I tiptoed and gave him a small peck on the cheeks. He just stood there with his hands in his pockets and looking at me with adoration.

I opened my door and was about to go in when Trevor commented, "You were the most beautiful girl at the party tonight."
