5.45 pm, Mumbai,

A girl in her early 20's sits by her balcony, tapping her feet to the rhythm of the music. Closing her eyes, she feels the tears of the clouds by stretching her hands out the balcony. The cold drops touch her doe shaped eyes and trickle down her calming face. Picking up her coffee mug, she starts sipping it. She looks at the sky, drowning in a sea of thoughts.

Nandini Murthy is a scattered piece.

A girl who tries to love herself, despite the fact that she is all the pieces of what she used to be.

People are only very broken by their lover. That's a myth.

People can be very broken by their parents, too. And Nandini is broken by her father.
The one she used to call "her hero", like every other daughters.

It all changed the day he cheated on her mother. It all changed the day he left his daughter's hand. It all changed the day he didn't care enough to hear the pleads of his daughter.

And it all changed Nandini, too.

As if that wasn't enough, Nandini's mom departed her in an accident, when she was thirteen, a year exactly after her father's betrayal.

Those moments in her life was pitch-dark. The moments are gone now though. But the pain is so fresh she always feels it deep inside.

Amms takes care of Nandini since then, trying to comfort her in all ways that she has known. Though her father didn't love her enough, her grandmother surely did.

After completing Fashion Designing, she kick started her own company. But then, Mr Vedant whose company is one of the top most Fashion Houses, opponenting Mr.Malhotra's, offered her to merge their companies.

Nandini was delighted to say in fact. Throughout time, Mr Vendant helped her alot and has secured the place of a good friend in her life.

Yet, there have been days when Nandini almost quit, and just wished to be a singer.

But she does not want to become like her mother. And songs always make her feel everything so deeply it traumatizes her.

She doesn't want to feel too much. She just... wants to go with the flow, as she has been doing all her life.

She finishes her coffee and goes downstairs. Amms is searching for an instrument, even if she wasn't, she'd still be in the place where her instruments are. After all, she loves music.

What amazes Nandini is that she is not only one of the best teachers of classical music but also fusion.

"What excuse do you have now to roam around here, Amms?" Nandini asks cheekily.

"Searching for the veena?"

"Oh Amms, you were searching for it day after yesterday only." Nandini raises her brows.

Amms smiles being caught, and says, "Maybe I haven't found it out yet?"

"Yeah, it's right before you and you've been searching for days? Right, Amms!" Nandini giggles, touching the Veena that's in front of them.

"Oh, I didn't notice." Nandini rolls her eyes and back-hugs Amms.

When she comes into her room, her mobile pings with a message. It's from Jeff. Nandini immediately smiles, and it only grows wider when she reads the message that says she has returned to the city. It has been a week since Nandini met Jeff, her best friend.

There's this one friend people have, trying to reach out to us whenever we are down, wiping our tears when their own heart is broken to shreds, backing us up when they are falling apart themselves.

That kind of friends are precious and rare as shooting stars. And Jeff is exactly that kind.

Nandini could not ask for anymore friends.

Nandini stands before her door, knowing well what is gonna come next.

And what comes next is a knock.

The door opens with an excited squeal from either of the sides, Jeff and Nandini already reaching for each other.

Jeff messages her standing right in front of Nandini's door. It has become a habit for both of them now.

They hug eachother, laughing.

"You both haven't grown up enough to greet eachother with no squeals," Amms shouts to them, shaking her head but smiling nonetheless.

They both giggle.

An hour flies, and still Nandini and Jeff have so much to talk about, to rant nonsensically.

That's when Nandini's phone goes off. Sadly, she has to work on Sundays, too. She takes leave and drives to her office— their office. Darsh's and hers.

Jeff pulls on a grumpy face before she goes and curses Nandini's partner.

"Does that dude know it's Sunday?"

Nandini shrugs, smiling.

Jeff was hanging out in Nandini's room when she heard a servant's shout. Frowning, she rushes down only to see Amms unconscious.

Shocked and panicked, she phones a doctor.

The doctor treats Amms, meanwhile Jeff is caught in a web of worries.

Should she call Nandini? But Nandini will panic.

Jeff, then decides to tell her later, though Nandini is going to be mad at her for this.

"What happened, Doctor?" Jeff asks the doctor as she seems to be done with checking Amms up.

"I am afraid she has the symptoms of brain tumor."

Suddenly Nandini ranting about Amms' headaches makes sense. Jeff's forehead creases, her heart strained.

"Let's not jump to conclusions yet. She has to be properly checked up tomorrow in hospital."

Thanking the doctor with a dry throat, Jeff sits beside Amms who she knows has been hearing them.

"Don't tell her."

It's all Amms says. "Please, don't tell her."

Jeff just looks at her, forcing herself to form some words.

"It's not confirmed yet. You are going to be fine. Come on, Amms? You can't just—"

Jeff's lips tremble. "You can't just—"

She couldn't say it. Jeff bits her lip, trying hard not to cry. But somehow, when Amms pats her on the head, she does.

"Why?" She asks.

"Why? Hasn't she suffered enough?"

If Amms has tears in her eyes, she doesn't let them fall. She has been strong all her life, and she will be, now as well.

Amms caresses her hair until she runs out of tears, until she has no more energy.

"You are not going to go. You ar going to be fine and healthy and happy. You are gonna be with us only." Jeff rather declars, her eyes swollen.

Amms smiles at the grown-up kid. "I am always going to be with you kids," she says.

It is eleven when Nandini returns home. After checking on Amms, she retires to bed, oblivious to what happened.

And what is going to.

I hope that wasn't bad? Anyway, do vote and comment if you liked :)
