Jace

"But....when Kaelie threatened to look into your past, I saw how concerned you were. Your golden skin was pale, your hands were in fists under the table, and if I'm not mistaken, you were trying to hold back tears. When I saw that Jace, I had to help him. If you promise me you won't hurt me, I'd gladly be your friend," Clary finishes.

"Thank you Clary. That means so much to me. I promise I'm going to try really hard not to screw this up," I reply. "Now, if that's all, you need to get some rest."

"Yep, that's all I had," Clary quietly replies.

"Okay, I'll be at my desk, unless of course you want me to be out of the room while you sleep," I ask.

"No Jace, you're fine at your desk," Clary confirms. She pulls my blankets up and falls asleep.

I continue reading The Tale of Two Cities, while Clary sleeps. Every once in a while I check on Clary to make sure she's okay. I decide I should go and check on her again. I walk over to her, and she is sound asleep smiling contently. I check the clock and it's nearly four, so I go downstairs to meet Izzy, Alec, Max, and Willow.

I hear the door knob twist and open the door for them. They step in and I quickly shush them. "Clary is sleeping in my room," I whisper. I grab Willow.

"How's my baba?" I ask.

"Dada, why no me?" Willow asks. ("Why didn't you come and get me?")

"I'm sorry baba, I had to do something," I reply.

"Thank you Izzy and Alec for picking Willow up," I thank.

"Really Jace it was no problem, now what's up with Clary?" Izzy asks concerned.

"After I took her to the nurse, Mrs. Pinol suggested Clary go home. I know her mom works late, so I offered for her to have a sleepover with you, Iz. She was hesitant at first, but I vigorously apologized for being an ass. She agreed, and as soon as we got here she went to sleep. Now, I think we should wake her up for dinner," I explain. "If she asks, Willow is our sister. Got it everyone?"

"Yes," Alec agrees.

"Yep," Izzy says.

"Do we have to?" Max asks.

"Max, do you remember what happened at our old house? We can't let people know about Willow being my daughter, at least not yet," I explain.

"Okay, then I'm in," Max declares. Just then I hear footsteps, and Clary comes down.

"Hi Clary, how did you feel?" Izzy asks.

"I...I'm okay," Clary lies. I know she isn't, but I don't want to say anything. I do however fully intend on asking her later.

"Dada who is that?" Willow asks. Crap! How do I explain why she calls be dada? It has a close resemblance to dad! Ugh! I'm so screwed! Maybe she won't notice?

"Oh, I'm sorry. Where are my manners. Clary, this is Willow, my d..sister. Willow, this is Clary my friend," I introduce. Willow furrows her eyes on confusion. "Like Bella at daycare is your friend."

"Oay, dada," Willow coos. ("Okay, dad") I bring Willow up to her room and out her to sleep. Quietly, I inch out of her room to mine. I find Clary laying on my bed.

"Clary as your newly appointed friend, I feel obligated to ensure your wellbeing," I begin dramatically.

"Jace, I'm fine really," Clary lies.

"Clary, I know your lying. Just let me help you," I reply.

"I....it's just my side and my head. If it's not too much trouble, naw, nevermind. I'll leave you to your room," Clary sighs.

"Clary please just let me help you," I practically beg.

"Jace, I know you don't like me very much. It's okay, we can be friends. We don't have to be best friends," Clary quietly replies.

"Clary, I do like you! I want to be one of your best friends. You're one of the few non relatives I even talk to at school. What you did today took bravery, courage, and compassion. You saw that I was in trouble and even though I have didn't do anything to deserve your help, you helped me without hesitation," I explain.

"Well," Clary hesitates. "I did kind of mentally scold myself before I helped you. It kind of went like, Clary you're nuts! You're about to help a boy who likely hates you by egging on a girl who definitely hates you. Not only is she prettier but there's no way you'll be able to defend yourself against her large body with your pathetic one. Then, I was like screw it Jace looks like he's about to pass out, go help him!" Clary rephrases.

"I'm sorry you did all of that for me. I...I'm really not worth it," I reply. Chloe didn't think I was at least.....

Clary goes to respond, but my mom calls "Guy's, dinners almost done!"

"I...I have to go and wake up Willow. I'll meet you down there," I confirm.

"Jace, I want to help with Willow, unless you don't want me to?" Clary questions. Clary wants to help with Willow! Wait, should I let her? I mean I can't let Willow get attached to someone, who could leave us like Chloe did. But....I want to be friends with Clary, so I have to trust her. But...what if Willow gets used to Clary and then one day she finds a better person to spend her time with like Chloe did? But Clary is not Chloe! Clary took a beating for something she doesn't even know about? What should I do?
