Good morning children!

So yeah... this was btw the last picture I finished on my old laptop, so... idk... rather sentimental moment over here silvhfnkdv

But that's that.. let's get to the actual drawing, before I continue to rant about this new piece of technology I am obsessing over atm!
As some of you know each Clan has their own inspiration when it comes to culture, whether it's medieval or from some other fantasy creation, they all can be traced back to a more or less single origin.

So when I recently stumbled over some Celtic music again, I instantly got inspiration to draw something in relation to the Nightmare Clan, as it's main inspiration is Scotland. And after going down a small "Scottish marching bands playing 'Scotland the brave' " rabbit hole, I just had to draw my boy Bronadan again, in his uniform of the Nightmare Army.

The first sketch was rather rough... like... not in terms of the actual sketch (those are always rough, as you know) but rather the idea was still not quite worked out yet. I wasn't quite feeling the pose at all, but just decided to trust in the process, as I usually manage to either come up with something better along the way, or change things up when I get to it ^-^

And in this case the latter was the case. I drew the head and whilst scrolling through pinterest for inspiration on clothing, I stumbled upon some poses I really liked! SO I decided to make a second sketch for the body, this time a bit more fine, as I would still need to design the clothing on top and a better guide would probably prove to be helpful >w<

Then it came to the clothing. Again my inspirations mainly came from the Scottish army. I tried my best to make Bron look fancy, yet strict and stiff, as it's usual in military presentation images. The uniform itself supposed to be elegant as well, but with some added leather armour elements, and nothing too fancy in the end, since his rank wasn't all that high.

The lineart does indeed seem a bit very detailed, but trust me, in the colouring later on it does look simpler >w<"

As for his weapon, I decided to go with a halberd, as it's the signature weapon of the Nightmare clan.

Then it came to the flats. Bron himself was coloured with his usual palette, so nothing to say there really...

Things got interesting when it came to the clothing though. Since we're talking about the Nightmare Clan here, the colours ought to be in the national colour. Which is this maroon/whine-red ish hue.
I tried to keep everything as dark and neutral as possible, except for the quilted parts, since those were meant to stand out. In contrast with the dark colours, there also was a lot of silver involved, even though I am not too sure if silver should really be the Nightmare metal or not... still gotta decide on that one...

but yeah! here we go:

Then we got to the colouring... i tested something new with the shading here and am incredibly happy with the result, as it gives a softer light and makes everyhting less in-your-face shiny, you know? I think I overdid it a bit though, hehe...

Don't get me wrong, I really like the warm colours and the sunset-feel I got here, and I am indeed incredibly happy with the result, but it wasn't my initial plan you know? And even though the result is great, I'd love to be able to actually transfer the lighting situation I have in mind onto the canvas... which is indeed something I struggle with...
