"If they want war, we'll give it to them."

Those words had haunted Jayfeather for the past few days. Why would Stoneteller suddenly be so aggressive? Well, Wind had tried to kill them, so that was a pretty good reason.

What? No! I don't want war! Jayfeather told himself.

"Awwww! Jay's Wing looks so cute when he's deep in thought!" Lion Blaze's voice shook Jayfeather out of his thoughts. He became aware of what was truly happening. Kits were being trained to fight against fully grown cats. The Tribe was about to go to war, and cats would die.

This can't be right? Wind is the first leader of WindClan- no Clan cat could have such an evil heart!

"Stoneteller plans on stepping down. She thinks that if we are going to war, we need a leader that knows how to fight."

"What?" Jayfeather sprinted for Stoneteller's den, almost tripping because of how fast he was going.

"Stoneteller, please don't!" Jayfeather said, panting.

"What? Who told you?" Stoneteller demanded.

"Lion Blaze," Jayfeather replied.

"Lion Blaze- that stupid kit. Does not know how to keep his mouth shut. No rabbit for him tonight- he's only going to get squirrel."

"Squirrels aren't bad," Jayfeather pointed out.

"That isn't the point!" Stoneteller said as she rolled her eyes. "You can't stop me from stepping down!"

"What if I said I'd leave?" Jayfeather asked. He regretted the words as soon as they left his mouth.

"You.... so, what you're trying to say is that you would leave me anytime just to get what you want. So you're using me," Stoneteller said coldly.

"I didn't mean- I-I..." Jayfeather's voice trailed off as Stoneteller turned her back on him, no hint of emotion in her voice as she spoke.

"Have a good day, Jay's Wing. Please leave my den now" Jayfeather knew that there was no point in arguing. Stoneteller wasn't going to budge- especially after what he had just said. Dejected, he left her den, sighing.

What have I done?

The next day, Jayfeather woke up to a nightmare. A new leader- Gray Wing. Stoneteller thought that he would use his fury towards Wind and Gorse to raise the Tribe to victory.

"Wake up, Jay's Wing," Gray Wing nudged Jayfeather. "You need to train now."

"What? I never had to train before!" Jayfeather said.

"That was when Half Moon was in charge." Gray Wing said impatiently. "Now, get up."

"Can't I just be a healer? I have several seasons of experience." Jayfeather pointed out.

"How? Half Moon doesn't remember you learning anything about healing." Gray Wing's eyes held feelings of suspicion.

"I, uh... had to learn how to use healing herbs in the tunnels, so I learned a lot then." Jayfeather said quickly. Gray Wing seemed to believe it.

"Fine, but I still want you to learn a few defensive moves, in case the rogues manage to get into our camp."

"Highly doubtable." Jayfeather pointed out. He stood up, yawning. "So, where will the Healer's den be?"

"We found a hollowed out tree that is pretty big. You have to climb in order to get there, but it should be enough to store herbs and probably one cat."

"Then where will Stone- I mean, Half Moon and I sleep?" Jayfeather asked.

"We haven't found a permanent spot yet, but I was thinking that you could just sleep with the rest of the Tribe."  Gray Wing mewed. "We can figure something else out later."

Jayfeather frowned, but didn't question it. "So, I guess I'll just go foraging for the morning."

"That's smart," Gray Wing nodded in agreement. "Our first attack will be tomorrow, so we should stock up on herbs."

"What?" Jayfwather's eyes widened. "Already?"

"Yes, and your kits, Jay's Flight, Fire Star, Holly Leaf, and Lion Blaze will all participate in the attack." Gray Wing confirmed.

"Isn't Jay's Flight going to be a Healer?" Jayfeather demanded.

"No, two healers is enough." Jayfeather felt his blood turn cold as Gray Wing spoke. Kits? Participating in an attack?

He froze as a familiar scent drifted into his nose.

Rock.

"Half Moon decided to step down, but it still won't be enough." Rock rasped.

"What do you mean?" Jayfeather asked.

"Because he's going to die," Rock hissed. "Then, the Clans will never be born, one way or another."

"I'm sorry, I still don't understand what you're going on about," Jayfeather snapped.

"Feathers of soot, plunged in the water, will never fly again," Rock said, his voice holding a warning.

"A prophecy?" Jayfeather asked. He was going to ask what it meant, but thought better of it. "Why? I thought you were no longer helping me."

"I will guide you along the right path," Rock said simply. "Even if it's the hardest one."

Smokeblaze watched as a leaf fell from the tree. Concentrating all her energy on trying to make the leaf fly back onto the branch, she squeezed her eyes shut and focused. No green glow.

Then, what had happened that day? She had surely somehow turned back time by a few seconds- then couldn't she do it again?

"Smokeblaze," Smokeblaze felt as if she had been struck with an arrow that would make her happy for eternity. She hadn't heard that voice for several moons now.

"Onestar," she whispered.

"You understand what happened that day then?" Smokeblaze tried to locate Onestar, but she couldn't find him.

"Yes, I know what happened that day," Smokeblaze mewed. "But how?"

"Find the third," Onestar's voice told her. "Only then can you save the Clans."

"The third ... isn't that Firelight?"

"Find the third," Onestar repeated. "Only then, can you save the Clans."

"The Clans are in another sort of danger,"

Dovewing!

Smokeblaze instantly recognized her friend's voice.

"One danger that is of the past. The Clans may never even have existed. You're the only one who can save the Clans. Jayfeather," Dovewing continued.

"What.. a danger of the past?" Smokeblaze asked. "Does that mean... so I have to travel back in time?"

There was no response.

"Onestar?" Smokeblaze whispered, feeling more alone than ever.

"I'm here," Happiness burst through Smokeblaze as she caught sight of Onestar's starry spirit.

"Onestar, does this have to do with Jayfeather staying in the mountains?" Smokeblaze asked.

"Only he didn't stay in the mountains." Onestar mewed. "He went to the past."

"But... how? And why?"

"Stoneteller." Onestar mewed. "He fell in love with a she-cat, who was the first leader of the Tribe of Rushing Water."

"So he stayed with her," Smokeblaze mewed. "Even though he knew that the Clans needed him."

"Yes, unfortunately." Onestar said, sadness gleaming in his eyes.

"Jayfeather could have united StarClan," Onestar continued. "Without our help, the Clans lost the battle. It was only until it was too late, that the rest of StarClan realized that fools they had been."

"So, if I can bring Jayfeather back before he decides to stay with the Stoneteller, then..."

"Everything will be back to normal." Onestar finished Smokeblaze's thoughts.

"But then I'll never have became a warrior," Smokeblaze realized. "The time when you first saw our last surviving kit... that would be the last time I'd ever see you."

"Yes, that is also true." Onestar mewed, sadness in his voice, "But, you must choose the right path. Only then will the Clans be restored."

Smokeblaze nodded, determination in her eyes.

"Then, how exactly will I travel back in time?"
