Have a surprising amount of things in common.
We are in a lot of the same extra curriculars.
We have a lot of the same interests.

Speech team
Theater
Musicals
Choir

Normally that would be great!
A chance to become one of Kate's friends?
Besides being so nice,
Kate is friends with the school's celebrities!
Well, my idea of celebrities at least.

Most people would think of the football players
As the closest thing to a schools celebrity.
Not me.
They don't come close to a celebrity.
My celebrities have more talent than smashing into each other.

They're The ones who got leads in last year's musical.
The ones that make me nervous to talk to.
The ones I shrink from if they walk past.

The ones that make me lose all self confidence,
Eons before Kate can.
The ones Kate will be in two years
The Kates of just two years ago.

Normally I'd take any chance to talk to Kate,
So being in so many activities with her would be great.
Except the only problem is,
She's so much better at them
Then I will ever be.

Take theater,
She got cast as a freshman.
I couldn't get so much as a callback.

Madgrical dinner?
She was the princess.
I, one of many serving wenches.
All the other wenches are in choirs below mine
Because out of my age group,
I was the only one not to be cast.

Musical?
She got in.
I
Didn't.

Speech team.
That's where it evens out.
Two different events.
We don't compete at all.
We're on the same team.
But when she comes home
With two shiny metals
And me with a measly fifth place ribbon,
It's hard to be proud.
Even if this is the first time
I've won anything this season.

Choir?
Highest choir her first year.
One of only two girls her age.
I should be happy
To make the second highest group my first year.

But Kate is in the only coed choir.
The choir with the madrigals.
The leads in every show.
The Kates
Of just two years ago.
