Part One/"Book 1"

Chapter 1

At her stall in a market, Linh Cinder, a cyborg, replaces her robot leg before Prince Kaito/"Kai" appears. Iko, Cinder's android friend, sees Cinder in her stall and approaches her to see she's talking to Kai. Kai tells Cinder to fix his teaching droad Nainsi and leaves. Then Chang Sacha screams that a booth has "the plague", letumosis and the market goes into a frenzy.

Chapter 2

Iko and Cinder head to the Phoenix Tower Apartments as people burn Chang Sacha's booth. They find children playing the halls as the approach the apartment and find Linh Adri getting her daughters, Linh Peony and Linh Pearl, fitted for dresses for the Peace Festival Ball. Adri chastises Cinder and says that she wants her to sell some old mechanical parts. On TV, Prince Kai makes a speech and it's interrupted by an announcement about Emperor Rikan entering "the third state of letumosis." Adri and Pearl decide to volunteer Cinder, but Peony stops them.

Chapter 3

Cinder and Iko talk about going to the Peace Festival Ball while Cinder fixes a hovering car. Peony then drops by and Cinder tells her and she and Iko are going to the junkyard to find a part for Adri. Peony tags along.

Chapter 4

In the junkyard, Cinder and Iko find the part Adri needs and in the process, Cinder finds an old car. Peony then starts screaming as she has contracted letumosis.

Chapter 5

Cinder flashes a warning to medical robots as Peony begins to die. Med-droids then show up and take Peony away. Cinder gets tested for "letumosis-carrying pathogens."

Chapter 6

Cinder slips into the apartment and as soon as Adri sees her, blames Cinder for making Peony sick. Pearl agrees to and they both agree that Cinder should be experimented on for letumosis. The medical robots take Cinder away, albeit Cinder fighting back.

Chapter 7

Dr. Dimitri Erland and his colleagues, Fateen and Li, check on a 32-year-old cyborg volunteer and get a notification that a 16-year-old teenage cyborg has volunteered for the letumosis cure.

Chapter 8

Cinder wakes up in the cyborg quarantine and med-droids do some tests on her. They find out she's "36.28 percent not human." They then insert a letumosis strain and Cinder thinks she is already dead.

Part Two/"Book 2"

Chapter 9

Dimitri, Fateen, and Li look at Cinder's diagnostics as they watch her respond to letumosis and decided to put her in another room, since "Her immune system is going berserk."

Chapter 10

Cinder wakes up and sees she carted off to room 4D. She finds it's the same room as she was first put in, but her gloves and belt are in there. Dr. Erland enters the room and begins to talk to Cinder.

Chapter 11

Dr. Erland tells Cinder that she a tiny bit cyborg and that she didn't die from letumosis. Dr. Erland asks questions about Cinder's life and Cinder says she's been a cyborg since she was 11-years-old and she has trouble retaining memories. Dr. Erland says her family will be paid and that Peony (upon Cinder's request) will be one of the first people to get the antidote.

Chapter 12

Kai and Konn Torin, watch med-droids take care of Emperor Rikan. Konn tells Kai that he must be ready to be Emperor Kaito of the Eastern Commonwealth. They then leave and are lead to an elevator by Sybil Mira. In the elevator, Konn and Kai talk about the Lunar Queen Levana's plan to come to Earth before exiting the elevator. They also talk about the dead Queen Channary and her mysterious daughter Princess Selene.

Chapter 13

Dr. Erland and Cinder talk about the hologram of Cinder's body. Dr. Erland then tries to find nerves in Cinder and she collapses onto the floor.

Chapter 14

Cinder wakes in room 4D with Prince Kai and Dr. Erland watching her. Erland explains that he was doing chiropractics on Cinder when Kai takes her aside and asks her about fixing Nainsi.

Chapter 15

Cinder escapes from the lab to get to the apartment.

Adri greets at Cinder as she enters the apartment and then hisses to find out if Cinder left or escaped the lab. They argue about Cinder being cyborg and Linh Garan before Cinder walks away and finds Iko in Cinder's room. They talk about the lab and Cinder's plan to escape New Beijing on the night of the ball.

Chapter 16

Kai runs to his father's quarantine and finds that Emperor Rikan is dead. He and Konn talk about how Kaito will be a better emperor than his father. Queen Levana then FaceTimes Kai in a conference room and says she will arrive to Earth and New Beijing soon.

Chapter 17

Cinder wakes and finds she has a message that Peony has "entered third stage of letumosis at 04:57 on 17 Aug 126 T.E." Cinder runs to the quarantines and finds Peony is dying. She also finds that Change Sacha is dying and wants her son, Chang Sunto, to come and visit her. Sacha then dies and a med-droid removes her ID chip. Cinder is furious at the med-droid.

Chapter 18

Cinder escapes from the quarantines and goes to the New Beijing Palace. She runs into Kai and realizes Emperor Rikan has died. They then talk about Dr. Erland experiments and the fact that Queen Levana is coming to Earth. Kai asks Cinder to go to the ball with him and she refuses. Kai leaves and Dr. Erland appears. He has been eavesdropping on the conversation.

Chapter 19

Dr. Erland and Cinder talk about Cinder's DNA in room 4D and find out that Cinder is Lunar and that Queen Levana is coming to Earth. They also find out Cinder is a Lunar "shell", which is a Lunar that is glamour-resistant and they cannot manipulate bioelectricity, and that Cinder was exposed to letumosis at a young age, hence her resistance to it. Dr. Erland tells Cinder to beware of Queen Levana, she will kill any "shells" without mercy. Cinder then receives a message that Queen Levana of the Lunars has arrives to Earth.

Chapter 20

Kai, Konn, and Sybil Mira watch the Lunar spaceship land on Earth. The ship is silver and gold rune symbols are sprawled all over it in a single line (the old Lunar language?). Sybil greets Queen Levana, who has a guard, Lunar Jacin Clay. Kai realizes that he needs Queen Levana until he realizes he's being manipulated. The group escorts Levana into the Palace.

Part Three/"Book 3"

Chapter 21

Cinder works on the car she found in her room and notices she hasn't fixed Nainsi yet. She is about to work on Nainsi when Iko appears, wearing one of Adri's pearl necklaces and some of her makeup, along with "the ribbon Peony had given her." Cinder then finds an extra chip inside Nainsi (a Lunar chip), and Nainsi turns on. Nainsi says that Lunar Logan Tanner rescued Princess Selene after being injured and, soon after bringing her to Earth, committed suicide. Selene was in the custody of Michelle Benoit at the time. Cinder tells Nainsi to stop talking and the droid is confused about her whereabouts. Cinder tweaks Nainsi and tells her what has happened lately.

Chapter 22

Cinder runs to the palace with Nainsi and see that there are protests at the palace about Queen Levana. Nainsi enters, but Cinder can't. The rioting suddenly stops when Levana, standing on one of the Palace's balconies. uses her glamour on the crowd. Cinder has a feeling that Levana has spotted her.

Chapter 23

Kai watches the protesters leave, while learning a trick to not be brainwashed by Lunar glamour. Levana then accuses Kai of harboring Lunars and says that she will kill the Lunar. Konn says she is mistaken, but Levana disagrees. The Lunar queen then gives Kai an antidote to letumosis. Nainsi then appears and realizes what Cinder said is true. Konn takes Levana to the Royal Gardens and Nainsi takes Kai to the Palace entrance, where Cinder is waiting.

Chapter 24

Cinder waits and Kai finds her and takes her inside the Palace. They talk about the chip in Nainsi and they discuss about who could put the chip in Nainsi. Kai then decides that Cinder is his special guest at the ball and time stops. Cinder then has a slight seizure.

Chapter 25

Dr. Erland tells Kai of a video chat conference with the world's leaders and Kai and Cinder follow Dr. Erland and talk about Queen Levana's antidote. Kai leaves and Dr. Erland and Cinder talk about the spine chip made by Linh Garan that prevents Cinder from using glamour or bioelectricity. Dr. Erland also says he is a Lunar and ran away to Earth after his daughter, Crescent Moon Erland, was murdered. Cinder then gets a comm that Peony is about to die and escapes to the quarantines.

Chapter 26

Kai gets to the video conference room with Konn and the rest of the world's leaders appear: President Vargas of the Americas, Governor-General Williams of Australia, Prime Minister Kamin of Africa, Queen Camilla of the United Kingdom, and other leaders. They talk about Levana's visit to Earth and her plans and find out that Levana is building a Lunar-wolf hybrid army in Artemisia.

Chapter 27

Cinder gets to the quarantine, but Peony has died. Cinder gets Peony's ID chip and gives Sunto the antidote before being arrested by droids on the orders of Adri.

Chapter 28

Kai and Levana have dinner in the Palace dining hall. The appetizer, shrimp wontons, is taken away and the main entree, noodles and pork is served. Kai thinks about Levana's plans when Levana accuses a servant of putting a mirror in her food. Levana is about to kill the servant when Kai says he did it as a joke. Levana then hisses at Kai before leaving and Konn and Kai need to find out who put the mirror in the food. A messenger appears and says that Chang Sunto is recovering from letumosis.

Chapter 29

Adri scowls at Cinder as soon as she walks in the door and finds out about Cinder's plans. She punishes Cinder by telling Cinder to repay her and to give her her cyborg foot. Cinder is about to go to her room when Adri tells her that she needs to sell some parts. Cinder grumbles and enters her room to find that Adri has destroyed Iko.

Part Four/"Book 4"

Chapter 30

A few days later....

It is the day of the ball and Cinder is sitting in her booth, thinking of how Adri intentionally excluded Cinder from the Peace Festival festivities. A girl then comes to Cinder with a broken iPhone and Cinder fixes it for her. Kai then appears and gives Cinder a silk gown and gloves for the ball before Pearl eavesdrops on them. Kai leaves and Pearl throws the gown and gloves onto the ground, angering Cinder. 

Chapter 31

Cinder gets back to the apartment and Pearl shows her the dress she will wear to the ball. Pearl then tells Cinder her plan to expose Cinder as a cyborg to Kai and Cinder says that Peony would've danced with Kai that night. Pearl hisses at Cinder that Cinder murdered Peony, but Cinder shoot back. Adri appears and breaks up the fight. On the TV, Prince Kai is coronated to Emperor Kai, wearing "Turtledoves embroidered across his mandarin collar signified peace and love. Draped over his shoulders was a midnight-blue cloak embroidered with six stars, signifying the peace and unity of the six Earthen kingdoms, and a dozen chrysanthemums, signifying the the twelve provinces of the Commonwealth and how they would flourish under his reign." The nobility and Queen Levana (with her guards) watch the coronation. Cinder has to scrub the car as she watches the coronation. Kai then makes a speech about allying with Luna and on the cure for letumosis. Cinder sees the Lunars sneer on screen.

Chapter 32

Cinder gathers her things to take with her and a comm gets to her. It is Crescent Moon Erland, Dr. Erland's daughter (although her name is not known in this book). Cress tells Cinder to warn Kai about Levana's plan and Cinder agrees to do so. Cress also tells Cinder that she's a Lunar spy, but because she was blackmailed. Cinder then cuts the comm and gets ready for the ball to warn Kai.

Chapter 33

Cinder drives the car to the Palace before smashing it into a tree near the Palace. A man helps her into the Palace and Cinder enters the ballroom. She tries to see Emperor Kai, but a guard tells Cinder to have him scan his ID chip. The guard realizes that Cinder is Prince Kai's guest and an announcement is made.

Chapter 34

The crowd sees Cinder and Pearl shoot forward (Adri tailgating her) as she sees Cinder is wearing her boots. Adri accuses Cinder of being a thief and orders Cinder to go home, but Kai intervenes and allows Cinder to stay. Kai and Cinder than dance on the dance floor and Cinder tells Kai about Levana's plan. Konn interrupts them.

Chapter 35

Konn tells Kai he must make a decision and Kai heads to the crowd. Cinder then has a plan and loudly says that Kai is in love with Cinder and Levana makes her way to Kai and Cinder. She hisses at them and Cinder recognizes Jacin Clay and Sybil Mira, Queen Levana's guards. Levana asks what Cinder's name is and Cinder introduces herself. Levana accuses Cinder of being Lunar and hisses at Kai to bargain for Cinder's life. 

Chapter 36

Kai needs to think and Levana orders Jacin to silence Cinder. Kai then decides to not marry Levana. Levana, shook hisses at Kai and Cinder finds out that Levana's isn't what she is. Levana controls Cinder to shoot herself, but the cyborg parts rescue her and bullets shatter the crystal chandelier above. Panic insues and Cinder escapes while Levana, Kaito, Jacin, and Sybil chase Cinder. At the Palace stairs, Cinder falls and her little leg falls off while the electricity in her hands burns the glove. Levana, Jacin, Kai, and Sybil find out that Cinder is a cyborg and Kai throws her in the New Beijing Prison after Levana threatens to take her back.

Chapter 37

Cinder is alone the Prison cell when Dr. Erland visits her. He gives her a new cyborg hand and foot. He also tells Cinder that she has family and that Queen Levana is Cinder's biological aunt.

Chapter 38

Dr. Erland reveals to Cinder that she's the lost Lunar Princess Selene and that she was put on Earth to protect her from Queen Levana. She has cyborg parts because she was badly burned by a fire when she was three-years-old. Cinder then plans to run away and figures that people are now looking for a nonexistent person.
