"she's awake" I hear muffled voices around me.

"mmf-" I respond

I open my eyes and all I see is brightness. my eyes soon adjust and I notice I'm in a room with three other beds around mine. 

in each of the beds are my bandaged up friends.

"how are you feeling Maya? you got cut up pretty badly huh?" Deku says 

I sit up and wince in pain as I feel the muscles in my arm contracting, not to mention I'm sore from fighting.

"pain..." I answer.

"after everything that happened back there it feels like a miracle we're even alive. with my leg messed up I was an easy target, he probably could have killed me if he wanted to." Deku says. just the thought of him dying makes my heart ache.

"Yeah, seems to me he let us live on purpose, I'm impressed by you though Lida. he was actually trying to murder you but you stood tall"  Todoroki says looking over to Lida.

"that's not true...  I was-" Lida starts.

"APOLOGIZE ONE MORE TIME I DARE YOU LIDA!" I yell still a little groggy.

the door to the hospital room slides open and Gran Torino and the Pro hero Manual enter the room.

"oh, so the injured youngins are awake." Gran Torino says.

"Gran Torino!" Deku exclaims.

"idiot! I could yell at you for hours right now." Gran Torino says angrily approaching his bed.

"yeah s-sorry" he stammers.

"but before I do, you've got a visitor" he says motioning for a man to enter.

a tall man wearing a suit walks in, but it's not a man. it's a dog. 

"this is Hosu's chief of police, Kenji Tsuragamae" Gran Torino introduces the dog.

Todoroki and Lida stand up and I do the same. Deku tries to stand but is stopped by the canine.

"no, please stay seated, woof" he barks

"so, you're the UA students who brought down the Hero Killer huh?" 

"we are" Todoroki says.

"Stain has some serious injuries, severe burns and several broken bones. right now he's in the hospital under strict guard, woof."

"good" I mutter to myself.

"Here's a lesson you should have already learned. when quirks became the norm the police force sought to maintain the status quo. they decided we wouldn't use quirks as weapons. that's when heroes came in, they could do what we couldn't, woof. if they were licensed of course. it would be impossible for the police to condone the use of deadly quirks. afterall we are here to stop such harm from being done. the only reason pros can use their powers now is becuase of the strict code of ethics that the early heroes chose to abide by. that's why it's against the law for uncertified people to use their quirks to cause injury. whether you were up against the hero killer or not. none of you had the authority to harm the villain. That means the four of you, including your supervisors including Endeavor, Manual and Gran Torino should receive harsh punishments for this gross abuse of your powers." the dog says.

the room tenses up, they can't really do that can they? 

"now wait a minute, if Lida hadn't stepped in, Native would have been murdered. and if not for Midoriya both of them would be dead. No one else even realized that the hero killer was in Hosu. are you saying we should've just stood by and watched people die?" Todoroki gets angry.

"calm down!" Deku yelps trying to get Todoroki to calm himself.

"so breaking the law is ok as long as it goes your way?" The dog states.

"but sir, isn't it a hero's job to save people!? " Todoroki yells

"this is why you're not a full fledged pro yet, it's obvious UA and Endeavor haven't been teaching you near enough what a shame."

"you damned mutt!" Todoroki yells.

"stop there kid, you'll want to hear him out till the end." Gran Torino says holding out a hand to Todoroki.

"what I've said is the official stance of the police department, but any punishment would only be necessary if this went public, if it did you would probably be applauded by citizens everywhere. but there's no way you could escape from being reprimanded. on the other hand we could say Endeavor saved the day. Stains burns would support this story completely and we could pretend you weren't involved, woof. Thankfully there were very few witnesses this could be the last you heard of any punishments. it would mean no one would know about you though. you'd receive no acclaim at all the choice is yours. personally I know where I stand, I don't want to damage any young careers not for a mistake like this"

"fine by me" I say shrugging.

"either way, well have to admit to being negligent supervisors." Manual says and Lida walks over to him bowing.

"I'm sorry I should have listened" he apologizes again and I shoot daggers at him with my eyes. 

"yeah you've caused us a lot of trouble. remember that and don't do it again."

"Please allow me as the chief of police, to thank you" the dog says bowing

"ya know you could've lead with that" I say.

the adults leave and we all start packing our things to leave.

"my hand got pretty messed up, they said I might have permanent damage..." Lida says staring intently at his hand.

"oh no" I say

"this is all my fault..." Todoroki starts.

"what how?" Deku asks just as confused as I am.

"it seems that anytime I'm involved, someones hand gets messed up" Todoroki says looking down.

"hey it's not your fault his hand damaged" I say trying to console him and then suddenly Deku and Lida break out into laughter.

"what's so funny?" 

nobody answers me, they just continue cracking up.

"I didn't know you had a sense of humor Todoroki!" Deku says between laughs.

"wait that was a joke?" I say facepalming and then joining their laughter.

I was later discharged from the hospital with some pain meds for my back and arm. our internships were cut short considering everything that had happened.

when I walk through the door I immediately start floating. I fly straight over to where the my mother is sitting on the couch and she gives me a suffocating hug.

"owww" I wince in pain

"I'm- so proud of you..." she says her voice breaking, is she.... crying?

I feel a lump in my throat and I return her tight hug I have never heard her cry before, and on top of all of that. she said she's proud of me!

I hear a door swing open and hear running footsteps. my father's big arms wrap around both of us and we just sit there for a minute all in each other's embrace. even though my back hurts, I ignore the pain this moment is too good to be ruined. 

"I'm so glad you're ok" my father says sniffling and pulling away from the hug.

"I missed you dad" I say wiping away my tears.

"you should have seen me throw that Hero Killer!" I exclaim excitedly and he smiles at me.

I leave my parents in the living room and go into my room. I change out of my hospital robes and into a t-shirt and shorts. I open my phone and begin reading the news. the first picture I'm met with is Shigaraki standing on a water tower with Kurogiri. in the picture he's holding binoculars and standing over the street we were fighting in. 

this is so embarrassing he totally saw me get all cut up. 

I think facepalming. 

according to the news all three of the Nomu's he released that night were either captured or killed. he's probably pissed. 

I received a text from Deku.

Deku: "Can we talk?"

"yea what's up?": Maya

Deku: "I just have something I want to ask you, meet me at this cafe"

Deku: (sent a location)

"kk be there in 5" : Maya

his message made my heart do a backflip, I wonder what he wants to ask me?
