"Give me all the information you have on this case, Alex," Scarlett demanded.

Alexander held up a file. "I know you, Scarlett. You're the kind of person that won't step down, once you set your mind to something. We're keeping the murder weapon and the badge here for safekeeping."

"Look who I'm talking to," Scarlett said. "You taught me everything." She snatched the file out of his hands and walked into the other room.

"That's what I was afraid of," Alex mumbled to himself.

In the other room, the two police officers tossed William into a jail cell and locked him in.

"Hey! Do I look like a caged animal to you?!" He complained. "If you did your jobs better, innocent people won't continue to be wrongly accused of crimes they didn't commit, or, I don't know... Civilians dying when the police take their time to arrive! An emergency situation is called an emergency for a reason!"

"Quiet back there!" One of the policemen ordered.

"What are you going to do next? Hm?" William said. "Are you going to hurt me like how your buddy hurt a minor on a school campus or shoot an innocent man when you feel threatened?"

"Calm down, Will," Scarlett said. "Officers, you're relieved of your duties here." She grabbed a chair as the two policemen walked out. "You okay?" She asked as she sat down.

"What do you think?" William sighed. "I've been framed for a murder I didn't commit. I don't know if I should call this a cliché move or not by the real culprit."

"Look, I promise I'll get you out of there," Scarlett said as she opened the file.

"I hope you really mean it." William leaned against the metal bars.

"Now what's that supposed to mean?"

"As we all know, the Red Hoods are declining in numbers."

"So? Why bring that up all of a sudden?" She asked. "What does that have to do with this case?"

"It has nothing to do with this case," William said. "It has everything to do with us."

Scarlett looked at him sadly. "Look, if you think I'm just going to leave you here-"

"How are you so sure you won't just leave?" William challenged. "Just like all the other Reds. They decided to leave the city because they saw it as a dangerous place to live in. The same city that everyone calls 'The Enchanted Forest'. Now that old Granny Volkov was murdered and everyone knows it, how are either of us so sure that you won't leave like them?"

"I'll tell you why I'm so sure," Scarlett said. "You and I have been through thick and thin together. We've been partners ever since the day we met. We've stopped a teenage boy named Peter from jumping off a skyscraper because he believed he could fly. We saved that little girl, Ariel, from drowning in that fish tank when Jill put her there. You and I solved a twenty-year-old missing persons case and saved Ivo and Isa from becoming the new victims."

"We've really been through a lot together, haven't we?" William mused.

"Face it, William. Not everything we do is related to a crime, but we do save lives. I'd be lost without you and I'm sure you'd be lost without me. I know you're frustrated that you've been framed, but don't lose hope. You're not alone, and I know that's what you're afraid of the most." Scarlett reached out to him. "Believe me. I will get you out of there."

"I trust you more than anyone else in this crazy 'Enchanted Forest'." William held her hand. "Get me out of here soon."

Scarlett released his hand and went through the file. "I'll head to the crime scene and look around to make sure they haven't missed anything. I'm positive they overlooked some things, though."

"Two pieces of evidence is strange and too little to present in court also," William pointed out. "I doubt a bloodied badge and a knife would be enough to convince a judge for a guilty verdict."

"What about your fingerprints?" Scarlett asked. "How are we going to explain those? You're the forensics expert here."

"I'm not doubting that the fingerprints on the badge were my own, but the ones on the knife could be forged," William said. "I know it sounds farfetched, but it can be done."

"How?" Scarlett asked and took out several photographs. "They have several infrared pictures of your fingerprints. These seem to be pretty accurate." She showed him the pictures.

"How do you know what my fingerprints look like?" William asked. "But more importantly, this as accurate as forged fingerprint can get. I'd have to assume the culprit used dry glue to create a physical copy, but I see one major mistake."

"I looked at your resume on a few occasions before. We had to register our own fingerprints as well, remember?" Scarlett said. "What mistake? I don't see any flaws in here."

"Of course, I remember," William said. "This is my field of expertise. Take a closer look at the prints. The thumbprint is from my right hand, but the rest are from my left hand. If you don't believe me, go check my resume again. We had to register all of our fingerprints. Whoever the culprit was, they must've not known or paid attention."

"Noted." Scarlett got up. "I'll head over to the crime scene now to see what I can find." She walked away but stopped at the doorway. "Oh, and try not to give any policemen a hard time; they already don't like us."

"You know I can't resist taunting them!" William yelled as she walked out of the room.

"Give me Will's file, Alex," Scarlett demanded.

"I don't see how it-"

"Now." Her eyes narrowed.

"Alright, here." Alexander handed her another file. "I don't see how much that'll help, but good luck."

"I don't need luck." Scarlett stormed out of the building and sat in the driver's seat of the car. She went through both files and compared William's fingerprints to the ones in the photographs. He was right, she thought. Fingerprints from both hands. But why frame William? Members of the Wolf clan would never hurt one of their own.

Scarlett closed the files and started the engine. Okay, calm mind. Try not to get too ticked off at Alex yet for locking up your partner, she thought and took a deep breath. She backed up the car and started driving to the crime scene. It's only a couple blocks away, she thought. Keep a look out for a large, very concerned crowd.

Her phone rang, causing her to pull over to the side. Who could be calling at this time? She thought and picked it up. "Who's calling?"

"Mayor White," the voice answered.

"Ms. White, m-may I ask as to why you're calling?" Scarlett stuttered as she stepped out of the car.

"I've been informed that you've taken this homicide case alone and hope to clear William Wolfgang's name," She answered. "I'm inside the orphanage. Don't worry about the children. We've taken them to Town Hall for now except for two little ones that refuse to leave unless they speak with you."

"Their names?" Scarlett asked as she jogged.

"Ivo and Isa," Mayor White said.

"Give me a minute and I'll have a word with them." Scarlett navigated her way through the crowd and to the police tape. She took out her badge and held it for the policemen to see. "Scarlett Serafina, Hunter Investigations and a member of the Red Hoods clan."

The officers stepped aside to let her through. She jogged up to the door and let herself into the orphanage. The twins jumped in surprise from her sudden entrance.

"What? Did I scare you two?" Scarlett smiled slightly. "Where's the Mayor?"

Isa pointed to another room. "She's in there."

"Ms. White has been snooping around our new home for the past hour," Ivo said. "We don't want to move to a new home again."

"I understand," Scarlett said. "Stay here; I'll need you two to help."

The twins nodded and sat down.

Scarlett headed to the next room and was greeted by a woman wearing a white uniform adorned with snowflakes. She held an old book with a bookmark sticking out of it in her hands.

"Ms. Serafina, Little Red, whichever name you prefer," Mayor White said. "I've found quite the interesting tale. Perhaps it may be related to this case?" She closed the book and handed it to Scarlett.

"I'm not sure whether you're joking or not taking this seriously at all," Scarlett said. "I'll check the crime scene myself. It can't be limited to a single area after all."

"Just like before, I gave some insight to a case that you and Wolfgang were investigating and it always had some relevance," Mayor White said. "What about these two?"

"Ms. White, I advise you to wait outside and disperse the crowd. I'd rather avoid the media for this case. I'll send the twins your way after I am done here. After all, there are some things children can spot that adults can't," Scarlett said.

"Very well. You are the professional here. Leave the media and politics to me. I'll calm down the general public, but once you've figured out the culprit, report to me as soon as possible. This case must go deeper than the layer it shows." Mayor White stepped out of the orphanage and closed the door behind her.

"Ivo, look around and tell me if you spot anything," Scarlett called to one of the twins. "Isa, show me what was the last thing you remember Ms. Volkov doing before the...incident."

Isa walked up to her and opened the book. She pointed at the last fairytale that Ms. Volkov told them.

"A story about Red Riding Hood and a cub becoming friends?" Scarlett asked.

"Ms. Serafina!" Ivo yelled.

Scarlett closed the book and rushed over with Isa to him. "What?"

"This?" Ivo pointed at small, crimson stains on the ground that led out the front door. Scarlett put on a plastic glove and felt the texture of the stain.

"Dried blood," she mumbled. "Ivo, Isa, thanks. I have what I need now. Go with Ms. White. She'll care for you two."

The twins ran out of the orphanage and to the mayor.

Scarlett took out her phone and snapped a picture of the trail. Where did you hide the evidence, murderer? She thought as she followed the trail carefully out the door. She saw the crowd leaving and the twins entering a car with Ms. White. The twins waved and she waved back as the car left.

Scarlett looked around at the ground as carefully as she could. Where is it? Where does the trail lead? She thought as she noticed a very faint red boot print leading to the side of the building. She snapped another picture. The sprinklers must've washed away most of it, she rationalized. Scarlett walked up to the trash bin. I wish this wasn't the best bet for hidden evidence, but that trail ends here. She dug around until she found two gloves with dried glue on the fingers. Scarlett looked at it carefully and gave a sigh of relief. Will, you sly wolf. Sometimes, I'm glad you're right.

Scarlett ran back to her car with the newly gathered evidence and rushed back to headquarters. She hid the evidence and files beneath the passenger seat.

"I can clear Will's name!" She yelled as she ran into the building. "What's going on?" She asked when she saw Will being released from the cell.

"While you found your own evidence, Scarlett," Alexander said, "there was more on the badge than we thought. Even your own fingerprints were there as well."

"What?!" She yelled as the two officers grabbed her by her arms. "I wasn't the one who murdered Ms. Volkov!"

"We have video footage of you leaving your apartment an hour before the murder took place," Alexander said. "The time stamp alone showed you returning about an hour after the victim's time of death."

"You're basing your accusation off of fingerprints and footage from a city camera?!" Scarlett spluttered in disbelief as the two policemen dragged her to the cell and locked her behind the bars. "This is low, even for you." She glared at Alexander.

"The people of our city want justice," Alexander said. "I have a duty to give them that. Even if it means turning against old friends in the name of the law." He left the room as William ran up to the cell.

"It can't get any worse than this, can it?" William asked. "Look, you tried to get me out and even gathered evidence. It's time I returned the favor and got you out myself."

"I trust you, Will," Scarlett said. "He didn't even ask us for our alibi. Instead, he jumped straight to conclusions."

"Where's all the evidence you gathered?" William asked.

"In the car," Scarlett said. "I hid it underneath the passenger seat since we can't leave anything out in the open in any vehicle anymore." She passed the keys to him.

"I'll be back very soon," William assured. "You played your part, now it's my turn."
