Astrid POV

Seeing Hayden smile is everything to me. I understand why he is scared to tell Stoick about Toothless. Stoick has already lost a child and yes it's not to horse riding but horse riding is dangerous. That is the truth. Toothless might lose control and Hayden can get hurt but that's the nature of the sport. If Hayden trusts Toothless to protect and keep him safe then I will too. Every sport has a risk.

We spent the whole day at the stables. I finally earnt toothless's trust. I swear that horse didn't like me at first. I almost died. Hayden was laughing and said it was because I called him stupid. I quickly learned that Toothless was very intelligent and calm around people who were gentle. No wonder he loved Hayden.

When we got back home it was pretty late. I want to say around 1 am. We thought Hayden's parents would be sleeping, but that wasn't the case.

"And where exactly have you two been all day?" Valka spoke, her stern voice echoing. Even though I wasn't wearing my glasses I can see her frown from the front door. She's scary when she was angry I would say it's her pregnancy hormones but dear gods save us.

"I took Astrid on a date. Am I not allowed?" Hayden replied calmly as we took our shoes off and walked towards Valka. How on Thor's name is this guy this calm? I'm freaking out and she's not my mum.

"This late?! It's 1 am for heaven's sake Hayden! Her parents left her in our care!..." She was beginning to raise her voice the anger rising. However, Stoick laid his hand on her shoulder which seemed to have soothed her.

"Its late Valka, let the kids go to sleep. We'll talk about this in the morning." Valka nodded calmly, but I can see it in her emerald eyes that she was still angry.

I gave a smile towards Stoick. Silently thanking him for saving us from his wife's wrath. But Hayden clearly had different plans. "There's nothing to talk about." he shrugged his shoulder as he said that and began to walk away from Valka with me in tow behind him.

As Hayden dragged me up the stairs I could feel warmth of Valka's anger on my back. I feel the glare. If she could shoot laser beams from her eyes, she would at this point.  What on earth was this man thinking?!

"Wait right there young man." Valka spoke

That's it. We are dead. Thank you Hayden so much!

"Mum seriously you need to chill out. She's my girlfriend so I am allowed to take her out." he said and carried on walking up the stairs.

I tighten the grip I had on his hand. He winced in pain and looked down at me. I glared as hard as I could to make this stupid blueberry understand. To shut him up.

"Yes Hayden, I'm just going to chill out about the fact that my son and his girlfriend, whose parents entrusted us with her safety with coming home at 1 am." Valka spoke in a calm manner. Its the type of calm that means that a person is really really angry.

I broke my hand free from Hayden and ran down the stairs and towards Valka.

"I'm really sorry we were late. Hayden took me to a picnic date on the fields. I wanted to stay a little longer to watch the stars with him. This is all my fault. I'm sorry. Please don't be mad." I spoke quickly. My panic was clear as day. I'm sorry Valka I lied. You treat me like I'm already your daughter, but I had to lie for Hayden.

"That's okay sweetie. Next time please just answer your phone." Valka said with a soft smile on her face.

Phew crisis averted.

I walked back up the stairs and passed a shocked Hayden. He clearly knew I was lying.

I heard him whisper a thank you, I just gave him a small smile. I went straight to my room. I need a long warm shower to collect my thoughts on all the events that happened today. Ever since I came to live with Hayden's family a lot has happened.

I left my phone on the bed to charge. Its been dead all afternoon, Hayden didn't really give me a chance to charge it before I left. I'll check my messages after my shower I thought to myself.

I turned the shower on. I love having a shower. In the shower the water comes as a soothing cascade, as if I am within arms that flow and hug so gently. Even its cocoon of warmth can't keep me safe from that monster. I need to tell Hayden about Sam. If its too late or he finds out by himself he'll hate me. I'm scared. What if he hates me anyway? He needs to know about Alva. This can only be an honest relationship when he knows the whole truth.

I slowly stepped out the shower and headed to my room. I needed to check my messages. Maybe Alva left a goodnight message for me. I held down my power button so it would turn on. As soon as my phone was fully awake I received so many notifications. At first I couldn't really understand what the notifications were saying as there were so many and they kept on covering each other. Once my phone had notified me of all the pending notification I was able to clearly see.

My heart dropped. I could feel the blood draining from my body. I felt weak.
