Logan headed inside to retrieve a first aid kit, hoping that it wouldn't be too difficult to patch of a gash on a merman's tail. However, he'd never had to perform first aid on a merman before. As of a few hours ago, he still wasn't sure they existed. Now he had one in his swimming pool.

Just take deep breaths, he told himself. Remain calm. If you start freaking out, it could trigger a negative reaction from Patton.

He smiled a little at the thought of his name. The merman had been so happy to have a new name, and had accepted it as such very quickly, making him feel special and like he had some kind of connection to him. He had no idea that the connection came from their soulmate status, but it wasn't important.

The intellectual young man took the first aid kit out to the pool, finding the merman floating on his back. The setting sun reflected off his shimmering pale blue and pink tail as it gently moved up and down to keep him above the water. He had a peaceful smile on his face despite the bleeding wound. Fortunately, it had stopped bleeding enough that it didn't make the pool red or contaminate it.

"Patton," he called, making the merman yelp. He slipped under the water, his concentration having been broken by Logan's voice. He smiled when he saw him though and swam over the steps where he had set down the first aid kit. "I'm going to patch you up."

"Paaaashh," he tried, sticking on his tongue. "Patch! Patch!"

He blinked in surprise; Patton hadn't had much trouble with saying that word. It made him curious about the lingual abilities of a merman. Perhaps they were able to learn and understand languages more quickly than he'd anticipated. "Yes, I'm going to patch up your wound," he explained, wondering how much of what he was saying was going over the merman's head. "Can you show me your tail?"

"He aha?" Patton replied, tilting his head in confusion.

The intellectual man thought for a moment, knowing that trying to teach him the meanings of words in English through translations was a pointless venture. The structure of Hawaiian specifically just wasn't built for that kind of translation.

He put his legs together and pumped them like he had a tail of his own. "Tail," he said, pointing toward the merman's one as he mimicked the movement.

Patton's eyes went wide as he understood, rotating around so that his tail was facing forward and was pumping up and down in the water like the movement Logan was making. He started splashing enthusiastically. "TAIL!"

The action effectively covered the intellectual young man's entire body with water. The specks of water that now decorated his glasses lens made it hard to see everything perfectly, but he could make out the giggling merman in the pool. He was trying not to laugh, but failing miserably. Logan felt his heart warm at the sound even though he was sopping wet.

"Ha, ha, very funny," he said with an amused eye roll, peeling off his soaking wet shirt. At this, Patton's giggling was silenced as he stared with a red face. This made him blush in return. "What? It's not like there's anything to look at..."

"Uʻi 'oe," the merman murmured as he held up his tail for him to inspect.

Logan recollected himself and his thoughts, focusing on disinfecting the cut and making sure it wasn't in need of any serious bandaging. It wasn't, as it was already beginning to close up. He figured that merfolk had faster immune systems and regeneration properties than humans, but he still wanted to make sure it wouldn't get infected.

He began to gently apply the disinfectant wipe, making Patton hiss and pull back. "Shh, shh, I know it stings," he said gently. "It won't last long, I promise."

"Ke paulele nei au iāʻoe," he murmured in response as he held out his tail again, biting his lip against the pain. Logan hadn't been lying though; soon enough, the whole wound was sanitized and disinfected, so he pulled back with a nod toward him. "Mahalo!"

"No problem- I mean, you're welcome, is probably easier for you to understand," he said, smiling warmly at him.
