Logan was certainly not the strongest person in the world, having always been more invested in his academics than his athletics, but it didn't stop him from carrying the merman all the way back to his house. The young creature looked up at him with wide eyes that were filled with curiosity and concern. It was clear he didn't know what the plan was for keeping him hydrated several yards away from the ocean.

"It's okay, I've got a solution," he told him even though he couldn't understand what he was saying. He carefully opened the back gate of his rental house without dropping him. When he got the door open and the merman's eyes landed on the large pool, his expression brightened. "Yeah, it's saltwater, so you'll be able to breathe and stuff."

Patton giggled excitedly, leaning up to kiss him on the cheek. He blinked in surprise, looking at the merman with wide eyes. He blushed at the young creature's bright smile, a small smile of his own crossing his lips as he closed the gate door behind them.

Carefully making his way over to the pool steps, he entered the lukewarm water and lowered the merman into it. He sighed happily as the water coated his scales and skin, but when he started swimming around, he could see the gash on his tail again. Logan quickly turned to head inside, intending to get the supplies to fix it up, but the merman splashed and called out to him.

"E kali! Mai heleʻoe! Makemake wau e kamaʻilio meʻoe!" he exclaimed, swimming to the edge of the pool and looking up with pitiful eyes.

He found himself biting his lip and walking back over to the edge of the pool, sitting down to talk to the young merman. "I wish you spoke English," he said out loud, sighing as he straightened his glasses. "It would make this communication thing a lot easier."

Patton tilted his head curiously. "Eeeen... gleeeesh?" he tried to say, looking uncertain and confused.

"Yes, yes, English," Logan said, nodding with an encouraging smile, hoping the merman would continue to try and learn the language. "Can you say that for me, Patton? Can you say the word English?"

"Eeengleeshhh," he tried again, giggling a little around the word. "Engleesh! English! Ke aʻo nei wau i ka'ōlelo Pelekānia!"

The intellectual young man smiled warmly at him, not being able to help or understand the way his heart was fluttering in his chest at the sound of his laugh. He had the subconscious feeling not to fight it though, making him reach out to touch the merman's cheek gently. Patton stilled at his touch, looking as though his hand controlled him.

"Very good," Logan praised with a nod, smiling as he cupped his cheek.

The merman seemed to understand and let out a little cooing sound that reminded him of a pure. He also began to press his cheek into his hand affectionately. "Aloha au iāʻoe," he mumbled, looking up with blown eyes.

"Wow your... your eyes, they're incredible," he said, staring at the inhumanely blue irises of his gaze. "I'm going to help you, okay? I'm going to fix up that wound on your tail, and then I'll take you back to the ocean, I just hope you'll want to see me again afterwards. I just feel so connected to you, and I don't know why... I hope you can help me understand why."

Patton stared at him with incomprehension to all the words he'd just said, but Logan felt like he didn't really need him to understand at that moment. Just having him so close and real was enough for him at that moment, even though he didn't know why.
