      Adrien's POV:

      I groaned.

I  knew the surgery was successful. I was assured this by the doctor.

All the remains of the shrapnel were out of my system at last.

After I awakened, I was given some nasty medication.  Gosh, it tasted like grape mixed with mushy toadstools.

It was supposed to counterattack the infection.

   I sure hoped it worked.

I was told my recovery would take around four weeks to two months tops.

I was glad Carapace was around to assist my lady.

I hoped they would find the new villain and defeat them soon.

I looked up when I heard a knock at the door. I knew it was pointless since I could not see.

  Marinette's POV:

   I approached Adrien slowly.

   "Hi, Kitty," I said.

I  gently hugged him so as not to bruise him.

I knew the surgery was more extensive than the faculty let on and that he might take a while to get better.

"Adrien, you are gonna get there, so just relax."

I smiled as he yawned. I thought he looked rather peacefully as he dozed off.

I pulled out a note, a small box, and the key.

I set them on the table beside his bed.

    There, mission accomplished.

     "Sleep well, kitty," I whispered.

I kissed his cheek, then left the room.

As I closed the door, I  looked around me.

Good thing no one else saw me.

"Tikki spots on!"  I smirked as I transformed one last time.

     "Let us do this!"

I found Carapace, and we set off to take care of the crook.

       Carapace's POV:

       I saw Ladybug.

I  was glad she made such good timing.

      It was now or never.

      I  followed the bad person.

I knew she was not far behind me.

      I waited for Ladybug's signal.

Once she held her lucky charm in her hand, I charged at them.

I  put up the force field to protect Ladybug.

I  watched as she put the object to use.

At long last, the mask fell to the ground.

       I gasped in dismay.

Nothing quite prepared me for this moment.

I supposed it was true what they say, "Love is Blind."

I had been blinded to the truth this whole time.

I honestly thought it was Lila Rossi.

     Chris's  POV:
        I sneered.

I  gasped in surprise as the mask fell off once the brooch was taken away by the ladybug.

"You, how dare you!  You do not know what this means to me to have power."

I  tried to get it back from her.

          I failed.

Carapace reached up, he slapped my hand away, before I could take it back from Ladybug.

I  shook my head in defeat as she left with it.

I knew then what I never knew before, the miraculous is far too dangerous.

It was never meant to be in my hands or anyone's for that matter.

No wonder, Ladybug wanted to store it away for safekeeping.

I knelt on the ground unsure what course of action to take next.  My adventure had amounted to nothing. My little girl was still ill, and at the point of death.

*Author's note: In this story, Chris is from the future, married, and has a child.

I felt the time vortex open and let it swallow me.

      I returned home.

I   did not know how to tell my wife the bad news.

All that trouble was in vain. Our daughter was dying and there was nothing I could do to stop it.

    Not a single thing.

   Adrien's POV:

It was four weeks after the surgery, I  was released from the hospital.

I went to the place where the key was meant for the same one Marinette left for me.

I opened the safety deposit box.

The same one my mother left for me.

I was glad Marinette was with me.

I needed her help to identify its contents.

Also, I had her read the note to me although a few parts were in braille.

I  knew the smaller box contained a special watch. I could feel the braille numbers on it.  I thought it was rather special.  I was glad my girl gave it to me.

"Wow, Marinette that is a lot of money!" I exclaimed after she told me how much my mother had left me.

"I know it sure it.  It  is yours to do with as you please, kitty!"

     I  grinned.

With her help, I put most of the money to support a local orphanage, the rest was divided between paying off my hospital bills, paying off the apartment I bought, and buying a ring.

      Marinette's POV:

        "Adrien, what are you doing?"

I looked at him in awe as he bent on one knee.

We were in the park, and he just suddenly bent down.

        I heard him giggle.

"Adrien Agreste, what is this all about hon?

       I  smiled just the same.

I watched as he reached inside his pocket and held out a box.

I knew he was serious when he opened the box and said, "Marinette Dupain-Cheng will you marry me?"

       "Yes!"

    The end...
