Chapter 13: Midnight Talk

Aurora

"Davian, what if we use this tune here instead of the one you showed?" I used my guitar and made him hear the tune.

"Yeah, I like this one more. It goes with my drum's beat," Declan commented.

We were in the practice room of our dorm.

"But I like Davian's one more," Jaxon spoke up. "Though Aura's one is nice, too. I can play my instrument with any tune, so I don't mind."

I glanced at Davian. "Then, your decision will be the final call. Which one will be better?"

He twitched his lips, getting into deep thinking, and decided to answer, "Let's go with your one."

I smiled, and we continued to fix the perfect background music for the theme song.

After four more hours, finally, we fixed the music and recorded it. As it was already nighttime, Davian took the responsibility of editing the recording of the music and sending it to Cillian as soon as he was done.

If Cillian liked it, we would sing the song in the LMR tomorrow after school ended. I was excited to sing in the LMR for the first time!

Currently, I was sitting on my bed. I tried to sleep, but the excitement was keeping me awake.

Sighing, I got out of my room and stood out of Davian's bedroom door.

Should I knock on the door? It was almost eleven at night.  What if he got annoyed?

Sucking in a deep breath, I raised my right hand and was about to knock on the door. However, all of a sudden, the door opened on its own.

Davian got startled, and so did I. But maybe I was more caught off-guard as I was almost about to scream until my eyes locked with the familiar gray ones.

I noticed today on the rooftop that he had a nice eye color. How could I have not noticed how pretty his eyes looked until then?

Davian raised his brows.

I kept looking into his eyes, forgetting that I needed to say something.

Suddenly, he snapped his fingers in front of me, making me jump out of my trance.

"What are you doing here?" he asked me.

"I was..." When I realized what just happened, I put my hands on my hips and complained, "Why did you open your door like this? I almost got a mini heart attack. I was about to knock on your door after debating with myself for so—"

"Stress rambling, aren't you?" he interrupted me. "I thought you were excited to record for the first time in LMR. Then, why the rambling?"

Even I was taken aback by his question. I didn't realize I was stressed till he pointed it out.

"I... don't know," I answered honestly.

He shook his head and gave me a small smile. Then, he opened the door of his room wider and said, "Wanna come in?"

Hesitantly, I walked into his bedroom. This was the first time I was inside his room.

When I entered through the door, I was welcomed with a wall-sized window that gave a beautiful night view of the LM compounds. In front of the window was the king-sized bed, and on its left was a hanging hammock with a cushion and his study desk. Beside the door was a flat TV and below it was a low shelf with a huge music collection which immediately got my attention. It was in the shade of his two favorite colors—red and white. It was so beautiful!

"Do I have to tell you to take a seat? Come on, Aura." He patted my back and took a seat on the chair in front of his table.

I sat on the hanging hammock on the left side of the table and put the cushion on my lap.

He was still editing the music from what I could see. "I am almost done with it. I just need two more minutes."

"Okay," I mumbled and scanned his room one more time. Even though it was colored in red and white, the low lights were casting an elegant golden glow, which I thought suited Davian well.

After a while, he heaved a sigh and mumbled a small 'done' in relief. He stretched his arms over his head, then shifted his gaze fully at me.

"Did you send it to Cillian?"

He nodded his head. "I even sent it to our group chat so that Jax, Dee, and you can hear it."

"But I can hear now as well," I pointed out.

"Oh, right." Davian bit his lower lip as if he was mentally scolding himself for being an idiot since that thought didn't cross his mind. "We can hear it together and even rehearse if you want. But before we get to that, I want to ask you, how are you feeling?"

I averted my gaze and hugged the cushion close to my chest. "I don't know, Davian. I am really excited to record my first song in LMR with you guys, but at the same time, I am scared."

"Why?" I could feel his intense gaze at me, but I didn't dare to look.

"All of you have so much confidence in me. But what if I screw it all up? What if I do something and it makes you all realize that I am not worthy to be in your band?"

"Our band." As soon as he corrected me, I looked at him in surprise.

"Yeah," I breathed out.

"Aura, you were the only one who got that one spot for which thousands of teenagers fought. You don't know how to play any instrument except an acoustic guitar. You won with your vocals. You won the B4U new member's audition, with your vocals and your songwriting. I didn't want to accept you as a bandmate at first, but let me tell you, they took my opinion as well before making the final decision of selecting you. I know talent when I hear it. And you know me, whatever I do, is for the band's best interest," he explained firmly.

My heart melted at his sweet words. It was so soothing.

"First times are scary, I know. But there's a first time for everything, right?" he continued speaking, a faint assuring smile on his lips. "You will be habituated slowly with all of these. But remember, if you ever get nervous during singing, just look at your people—the people you adore—the people who give you strength."

"But my dads aren't in front of me."

He chuckled. "You can always look at your dads' photo before singing. That will give you confidence, and your nervousness and fear will vanish in a jiff."

I gave him a warm smile. "Thank you, Davian."

He returned my smile with his adorable one. "You are welcome, Aurora."

I should stop liking the way he calls me by my real name. Why do I even like it in the first place? He was calling me normally. Everyone other than B4U members called me that, yet Davian's one was... I don't know, special?

Wanting to avoid these weird thoughts, I asked, "What did you do when you had to record in the LMR for the first time?"

He leaned on his chair comfortably and said with a proud smile, "I never had to worry about anything."

"Why?" I arched an eyebrow.

"Because Jax and Dee were always there with me. They are my family and they give me the assurance—the peace and confidence I need."

I loved the bond these three boys shared with each other. They didn't even have to express themselves through words. They always knew they had each other.

"That's really nice," I uttered.

"Well," he took a deep breath and said, "Now that we talked for a while and I can tell you are feeling more relaxed, shall we listen to the music?"

When I nodded my head, he played the music on his laptop.

We heard it silently.

Everything was perfect in the music—the drum beats, the guitar tunes—it was a masterpiece according to me. When we would sing the song with this music, whether we get selected or not in the final audition, I would request Cillian to upload it on our band page.

Once the music ended, Davian said, "So... how was it?"

"It's perfect, Davian. I love it so much. I can't wait to sing to this beautiful music," I let out in excitement.

He pursed his lips and thought something while I stared at him quietly. Then, he asked, "Are you sleepy?"

Immediately, I shook my head.

He gave a wide, playful smile. "Wanna rehearse the song with this music?"

I grinned hearing his words. "Do you even need to ask? Obviously!"
